As readers and questers, we're always happy to have more content, but not if that means you suffering. You suffering could lead to long breaks to fix things that could have been avoided with short breaks, meaning we get less content, and less-good content. It might sound a bit paradoxical or cruel, but you staying healthy keeps the story healthy. So please, take as long as you need!
I've waited a decade for a fanfic to update; a few months is nothing.
Hey gang, quick life update, while I'm still totally committed to this project I'm also hitting some mental walls that… okay so long story short my brother who's been diagnosed with ADHD since elementary school has heard me describe some of my problems and was like "hey that sounds like some kind of attention-deficit thing" so I'm trying to chase down some answers for that. I'll do my best with Turn 11 in the meantime, but this slowdown has been eating at me and I wanted to make it clear it wasn't for a lack of commitment to the quest.
I don't think I've ever met a person in real life who used dude as anything other than gender-neutral. It is weirdly consistent?? Even though 'dude' has always had a kind of masculine association in my head? I have NO IDEA why this is a thing. Language is friggen weird.

Dude is, like, surfer dudes' lingo, maybe a bit hippie-trippy, too. And while there are, of course, female surfers and hippies, the stereotypical image that pops up in your head is a man, nine times out of ten. He's just, like, a dude, maaan. lmao
You mean like business cards? How does the chakra paper help with that? By telling others what your chakra natures are? I forget if ninja in naruto have unique chakra signals or w/e.
You mean like business cards? How does the chakra paper help with that? By telling others what your chakra natures are? I forget if ninja in naruto have unique chakra signals or w/e.
Ninja Info Cards are a type of ninja tool where information can be burned on it by using chakra. The cards look blank to the naked eye with the kanji for "shinobi" (忍) on the back, but when chakra is applied, various categories of data ranging from information about the Five Great Shinobi Countries to the ninja that inhabit them are displayed on the card, even in 3-D. However, only the person who originally burned the data onto the card is able to retrieve it. -from the naruto wiki
seems more like just an easy way to take important notes for Ninja without the information being at risk of getting out.
Endo is sitting on your desk when you come in one morning, bag over her shoulder.
"I might take a while out there," she says, "but this is too big an opportunity to sit on. I'm getting a contract."
"Made up your mind, then," you say, maneuvering around to your side of the desk and sitting down. It turns out that Endo being your friend means a lot of unexpected visits; that just means you've come to expect them.
Endo nods. "Squirrel. Maybe it's a little silly, but the old legends... they reminded me of simpler times. Dreams about being the hero, saving the day."
"Saving princes and princesses?" you ask, glancing up from the reports already in your hand.
Endo snorts at that. "Yeah, sure. The Junior Warden should be able to handle things while I'm gone, but if she gets finicky about Argus or something, I trust you'll keep things in control?"
On the one hand, you're always glad to lend a hand to a friend and peer. On the other hand... "You think that'll be a problem in your absence?"
Tomoe shrugs. "I already briefed my top people on that particular mess, although I left the Tree out of it, but none of us were entirely graceful dealing with those revelations."
Having attempted to use a fire breathing jutsu on the Meteor the first time it confirmed its intelligence, you choose to say nothing on that topic. "I'll keep an ear out," you concede.
"Thanks." Endo stands up, rolling her shoulders. "I'm going to hit the road, then. You were my last stop before I split. Take care, Chiyome."
"Safe travels," you reply, and when you look back up again she's already gone.

RESEARCH DIRECTIVES:
Directives are the marching orders, so to speak, that you set for your departments. Changing these do NOT cost an action.

[ ] Try your hand at creating art. The Spiders value it, that means you'll need to at least make an effort.*
[ ] Run some missions. Get out of the village, keep from getting rusty, make a bit of money.
[-] Take time for yourself. This is a lot, and you have to stay grounded in order to do it right. (5 turns before this action is available again, bonus to turn actions starts at +5 with an additional +1 for every turn after the initial waiting period.)
[ ] Reach out to someone. The shinobi life gets lonely if you're not careful. (Converts a personal action into a social action. Can only be done once per turn.)
[ ] Seek out a summons contract for retrieval. This will consume TWO personal actions due to the effort required.*
SOCIAL ACTIONS:
You have two (2) actions every turn to interact with others. In addition, by default every turn there is a chance for someone not voted for to approach you about something.
[ ] Get to know a fellow council member.
-[ ] Jounin Commander Ryuichi Mori.
-[ ] Contract Master Kasei Honjo.

-[ ] Follow up with the Katayama.
-[ ] Meet the Mizuno.
-[ ] Follow up with the Noguchi.
-[ ] Follow up with the Wakita.
[ ] Talk to someone you would trust with the summoning contracts. Get an idea of what they'd want and whether they would actively pursue a contract in their hidden state, or else wait for it to come to the village.
-[ ] Ichiro Asano, Councilor
[ ] Spend time with family.
SPIDER SUMMONER ACTIONS:
You have one action every turn, PLUS one for every action relocated from the Research Center or Personal action sections. Be sure to call these out in any plans made.
Favor: +10 NOTE: Favor is the measure of the Spiders' trust and fondness, acting as a modifier on all rolls to secure their cooperation and acting as a gate to higher levels of power and knowledge. It will decrease if the Spiders feel you take much more than you give, and increase if the Spiders feel you're being particularly generous and respectful.
[ ] Seek hidden knowledge from the Spiders. They can provide a number of insights into the world, its history, and its workings.*
[ ] Seek new power from the Spiders. While the wisdom of summoners is their greatest asset, the unique abilities afforded by their contracts are no small benefit.*
[ ] Seek expert training from the Spiders. They are skilled in many fields, and have much they can teach you.*
[ ] Seek the Spiders' expertise on a Research Center project. They can lend expertise or material aid to your own efforts, as long as it's within their specialties.*
[ ] Request a spider-silk kimono.
[ ] Meet more members of the Silken Court.
[ ] Receive tutelage in art. They want you to know it, they may as well show you how.
[ ] See what gifts are appropriate for the Spiders. Better to know so you can make the appropriate gestures of thanks.
[ ] See how you can aid the Silken Court. Your free time is scarce, but you can make some to assist your allies.
There will be a twelve-hour moratorium.
AN: Okay so it turns out that mental health issues take a really long time to even see people for and in the meantime I got so impatient I just pushed the rest of this through. Eat well, gang, bc bear is back on the menu.
Alright people, let's get to work. We have a job to do.
Also, nice that Endo wound up.going for squirrels. Now we just need to find a Heron Summoner, and I already have an idea for our first pick for that one.
Yeah I think we're doing the Uzumaki ruins thing soon right?
Other than that I think the big priorities are getting the contracts before the war starts in full, and seeing if there's anymore out of time malus we can peel back.
To be clear, Free Rein is effectively a "do whatever" kind of stance for each department. Unless told by the Director to pick up some other task, they'll spend their time spitballing and drumming up ideas relevant to their area of expertise.
The * means it'll trigger a mini vote, depending on what exactly it's attached to. Like when we first voted to ask the Meteor questions, then decided what exactly we wanted to ask it.
EDIT: Fixed. You'll find them, plus the Black Thorns research action, under "The Meteor & The Tree" as kekkei genkai research is now being studied with the understanding of a possible connection to the World-Swallowing Tree and its chakra.
