An African Vampire? Nah, it sounds more like Schrodinger to me. His whole deal is that he's literally everywhere and nowhere and not bound even to this universe (he can show up in your dreams, if he wants).

He's ridiculously hard to kill, because a new, uninjured him will just manifest usually, though a few effects like having his soul devoured by a vampire or whatever it was that finished him off in this quest, will work.

The difference here is that a bodhisattva reached the cusp of enlightenment, and then chose to turn back so he could guide others there and let them make the same choice they did - because they could feel that if they became the Buddha, then they'd never be able to go back.

Likewise, Denbe's meat brain is a mangled hash of robot parts and Futhark stones at this point - even if "yanking out" the control implants is possible without causing brain death, it's most likely that his brain is already beyond salvaging. Forcing his soul to languish inside a broken shell rather than letting him die on his own terms is the Yudkowsky school of ethics.

He simply put an end to strife. There was no amount of force Sun Wukong could have used to beat enlightenment.
