Cooking Karma System or How A Food Critic's Karma Caught her After Reincarnation

@Spectrum Apparently those exists lol
Just researched it but yes there is no reason you can't choose it. Looking at the price tag it seeemed that some of them is even cheaper than ordinary kiosks.

For the time being, I think I'll consider it as a variation of Permanent Kiosks/Carts and then give you guys the option to choose from a variety of kiosks design. Including a mobile/IKEA one in the next vote.

Stand by to be abused by food critics!

Perfect. I'll push for that next vote.

At any rate...

[X] $25,000 (business loan)
[X] Permanent Kiosks/Carts

Why exactly are people pushing for the double 10k loans? It's less money combined for more owed per month because the government loan has such a short loan period. The apr difference doesn't really matter, cash in-flows and out-flows do. If it gets that far, we're unlikely to pay down the principal early given the loan period and will instead be using funds for expanding or for non-business purposes.

Ok. Everyone unanimously voted Permanent Kiosks/Carts and the almost minimal loan seemed to have won overwhelmingly which meant this is your starting capital if pushed through 10,000 (starting money) + 10,000 (government loan) + 10,000 (business loan) = 30,000

That said, I'm partway into the update and I'm flip-flopping if I should give you a chance to revote the loan. There are some expensive kiosks that I've researched and if you guys go for it, you won't be able to choose it due to being locked due to this vote.

Anyway, give me a few hours to write the update and research some useful kiosks design.

1.3 June Davis
[ ] Permanent Kiosks/Carts

X.x.X.

Tiffany woke up with a wooly head and a dire need of aspirin. After perfecting the golden fried rice in the mindscape, she was returned once again in the dormitory. Mentally fatigued from the ordeal, she didn't even know how she managed to crawl into her bed.

She buried her head under the covers intent on sleeping the day away but the insistent gurgling of her stomach made that a lost cause.

Maybe a quick snack… then back to bed I go.

She padded toward the shared dining room to see one of her dormmates reading a thick architecture book at the table.

Long brown hair, a blouse, and an old fashioned long skirt - this is June Davis, her dormmate. Unlike Tiffany's other two dormmates who are enjoying their well-deserved summer vacation, June has taken extra courses for the summer.

It was such a nostalgic sight that for a moment Tiffany imagined that surreal event of yesterday was a fever driven dream.

System! she mentally whispered, hoping for no answer.

Greetings user! You have a New Main Quest while the previous one is in cooldown.

Later System

No such luck.

Everything was real. Sighing. Tiffany plopped herself on the chair, uttering a quick good morning.

June startled a bit from and greeted back. "Its Good Afternoon actually. I brought you a sandwich from the deli place since you were still fast asleep. It's in the fridge."

"Thanks, June. You're a lifesaver." And without ado, Tiffany padded to the fridge and grabbed her sandwich.

Ugh… whoever arranged this sandwich was blind.

A quick bite proved that Tiffany's worst fear was confirmed. The sandwich was a soggy mess, she promptly shoved the sandwich back to its wrapper.

"Is there something wrong?" June asked. "I was sure that I've got your normal order."

"No nothing is wrong. I think I just need some water."

Going into the sink and pouring herself a drink, Tiffany examined the sandwich.

Is this really her normal sandwich?
Why does it taste so awful all of a sudden? Maybe if I eat if fast enough, I won't be able to taste it?

She took large quick bites.

Yuck.

"You must be very hungry," June observed.

"Something like that."

I don't want to eat something like this again.

"How was job hunting by the way?"

"Oh yeah, that." Tiffany was depressed when she recalled what she was doing before the system came in. As someone who just graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from one of the most prestigious Colleges, she had good feelings about her prospective offers and the interviews that she passed. Now, all of those could be said to be dust in the wind.

"Is it that bad?" June fretted. "Don't worry, you could still try more. "

Looking at her lifespan timer which now says, 229 hours, 33 minutes 30 seconds, Tiffany sighed.

"No there won't be any more interviews."

"You're giving up? Do you have a fever Tiff?." June fixed her glasses, giving her a scrutinizing stare from across the table.

I wish this was a fever dream.

A palm was laid on Tiffany's forehead. "You don't seem to have a fever?" June puzzled.

I suppose that it isn't like me at all.

"
Maybe I just want to quit?"

At this, June gave Tiffany a startled gaze.

"Yeah Right! Remember what you always tell me - Quitters are for losers? You're one of the most stubborn people I know."

Quitters are for losers!

The word echoes toward Tiffany's mind.

That's right. That is what I always say. Even past me always said that.

So what if I have a life counter and an impossible mission!

This is just a setback!

I won't allow some stupid life counter to get in my way! Even with this setback, I'll become a rich woman as I've always dreamed of! Like how I was in my past life!

Getting unexpected fire up, she asked.

System what is my next task!

Greetings user, your next main mission is to prepare a new restaurant!

"You're right, June! Quitters are for losers and Tiffany Gonzales doesn't quit! --- "

"That's right. Just try to get more interv---. "

"I will make the best goddamn restaurant in the world!" Tiffany directed those words to the system and the mysterious Mr. Shen.

"Umm… what? Restaurant?"

Tiffany came to face a dumbfounded June who seemed to have lost the plot of the conversation.

"That's right I've decided to make a business!"

June adjusted her glasses again, as palpable confusion hung on her face. "Weren't you just telling us last week about the failure rate of new businesses and that's why you're applying as an employee for big companies? I distinctly remember you debating with Madison on that."

Yeah, I remember that.

Considering how much I debated with Madison on this topic, I might be eating a lot of crow when she comes back.

For a moment, Tiffany debated if she should tell others about the Cooking Karma System.

User is advised not to tell about the system to others. Karma is hard to predict. But, the implication of the system's existence is calculated to bring negative karma to the world that will accelerate the user's end.

So basically telling others is a no-no or I'll die.

Essentially correct.

"I just realized that I want to make a business!" Tiffany tried to project as much confidence at that statement. And to avoid June poking at the sore subject and her sudden 180, she added, "Speaking of that, I remember that you have all those designs for kiosks in a binder from last year, right? I might need that."

June gave Tiffany another confused look, sighed and then collected the binder which was sitting with a stack of binders in the apartment living room. When it comes to engineering and architecture, June can't stop talking about it. She always has several design binders in the living room for her dormmates to accidentally discover.

"Here it is?"

"Thanks, June!"

X.x.X.

Opening up the binder what design for your first restaurant grabbed you?

[x] Plan My FnB Business Can't Be This Isekai!

-[x] 4,000 dollars for movable/IKEA Single Cart version
-[x] Special Wok Burner (outside) - 1,000 dollars.

Spend less on the cart, which will still be usable when we open branches later on, and more on equipment. No use to try for volume in the beginning anyway.

Big fire is important to make yummy fried rice. Trust me.

-[x] Mini Fridge - Priced at 100 dollars.
-[x] Small Freezer

To save us the pain of micromanaging perishables supply daily

-[x] Rice Cooker x2

So we can save time cooking rice. Keep at least one full at all times, and fill up immediately when one goes empty.

-[x] Big Chopping Board x2
-[x] High Quality Knife Set

Most important. One board for meats and one for veggies. Knives can make or break a restaurant, so get a good one that lasts a long time.

-[x] Portable POS + Cash Drawer

To manage our sales and ease workflow, as well as save time on accounting every day. Good investment.

Everything else like takeaway boxes or oil paper, ingredients, petty cash, probably later.

-[x] $ 10,000 (government loan)

This is enough for a small business with our minimal equipment. We have our savings, but we also need to worry about overhead and paying our staff, and material cost is high for FnB. Big waste too.

We'll upgrade once we get regular customers, since the first few months of FnB business is basically bleed, we don't want a big risk. Probably easier since it's fiction though.

I assume basic equipment don't need to be specified? Like containers for salt and pepper, spatulas, etc.

Yes I own a few FnB businesses why do you ask? :V

This is very useful for fried rice. I always have at least one in my kitchen. You put salt, msg, black pepper, white pepper, etc inside and just pinch as needed while cooking. Open or close once to access all seasonings. Don't know what it's called in english but should ease workflow by a lot, cutting down time needed to cook each dish.

Any chance you could put that as a plan? Because that sounds excellent and much more well thought out than anything I could come up with.

I'm almost tempted to shake @wdango for more fnb wisdom.

As for that write in. Here are the prices
[ ] small freezer - 150 dollars
[ ] best knife set + chopping board - 300 dollars
These features ice-hardened, stamped blades. When blades are hardened in this manner they're more durable and long-lasting than regular stamped blades. You'll immediately notice that the blades stay sharper for longer and will hold their edge."

[ ]Portable POS + Cash Drawer - 500 dollars

Edit: forgot something
[ ] Commercial grade rice cooker - 300 dollars
Cooks 100 cups of rice.

pretty expensive for POS, but worth it considering we don't have to pay a monthly fee like I do.

Any chance we can get the chiller and freezer secondhand?

Might want to get a showcase chiller to sell drinks, too. Possible or not, GM? Big margins and non-perishable = no waste.

On first look, the setting appears like cooking anime. Basically, like modern world but cooking/food business is MUCH MUCH more important. As for if there is some fantasy element in the setting besides the system.*whistles*

Sure secondhand chiller and freezer is possible. Just slash the price I gave you in half. Also, a small showcase chiller for beverage is 300 dollars.

Give us the showcase secondhand too please.

If we're sticking to just fried rice we don't need a second burner or any pots, and i assume the wok is included with the specialty $1k burner.

Y'know GM, I admit I'm impressed at the fried rice post. You're either a foodie or a cook, I'm guessing?

Protip: shallots and garlic are the soul of your fried rice. Also, duck eggs are several times more fragrant than chicken eggs, have more volume and colour, and can elevate your fried rice quite a lot.

Maybe we can have chicken/duck egg fried rice as two different price points on the menu.

Do we have to pay to refurbish and decorate the cart?

I assume we'll be doing our dirty dishes street food style -- with three buckets of water for soap, first rinse, and second rinse. Hahahhahahahaa. Or no dishes at all if it's all takeaway, I guess?

You asume correctly.

I'm more a foodie/eater than a cook I'm afraid. I do work/sideline at a catering service but that is more in managerial and accouting work lol

@wdango Is there a specific reason why you went with the government loan and not the 10k business? Again, the apr doesn't reeeeeally matter and the smaller outflows due to longer repayment period will help.

-[x] Showcase - 300 dollars > 150 dollars
-[x] Commercial grade rice cooker - 300 dollars > 150 dollars

-[x] $ 10,000 (business loan)

@Night Sentinel I don't need a commercial grade rice cooker. In the beginning we won't be selling 100 cups of rice. Just need a pair of two secondhand home-grade (8~12 cups) rice cookers, which are about $50ea new, so secondhand $25 ea for $50 total? Is that okay?

Total capital sets us back $6k, so our biggest costs are only going to be running capital and overheads. The $10k loan should be comfortable enough for a year.

@wdango Is there a specific reason why you went with the government loan and not the 10k business? Again, the apr doesn't reeeeeally matter and the smaller outflows due to longer repayment period will help.
Done. New Plan.

[x] Plan Profiting Off Failed Businesses

Yeah. I suppose $50 for 2 homegrade rice cooker is okay. ^^
Okay edited it into the plan.

Reasoning:

Cooking 100 cups of rice all at once gives us a lot of waste if we don't sell it all off. Plus it means once we run out, we're done for the day.

If we have two smaller rice cookers, assuming we use about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of rice per portion, gives us about 15-20 portions per rice cooker.

We can estimate 40-60 portions a day, so depending on traffic, we can decide whether or not to cook another batch when the first rice cooker runs out. It should be done in 20 minutes or so, and our other rice cooker will still have a lot of rice in it because you're not gonna be able to cook 1 portion per minute lol.

So even with just two smaller rice cookers we'll always have rice ready to serve, and on the off-chance we're selling more than 60 portions, well just cook one more batch and we can sell 80 portions.

That's better than a 100 cup rice cooker that makes a batch of 150 servings.

Low or even zero waste, since we can use leftover for the next day if we keep it in the fridge, which makes great fried rice, too.

Think the biggest issue with that is that freshly cooked rice is more or less unsuitable for frying, I'm not sure how much shorting the water actually helps here, you can stockpile cooked rice in the fridge for several days easily without any noticeable loss in quality.

At least, what a neighboring stall did was that freshly cooked rice would be sold on its own or with a stir fry item, cooked using the 100 cup rice cooker, and at the end of the day any excess gets chilled for tomorrow's fried rice stocks. I don't know the details, we did noodles instead.
