So if we spend time on an airship we should grow wings. If we spend time underground we get tremor sense. And on this boat we should gain the ability to breath underwater?

You don't know. See also: The conversation with the Scout in 0.1. It's not like adaptations are regular even in the same species; while all are at least a little helpful, some of them work better than others.

And if we spend time around people we become more and more attachtive.

This part really doesn't seem right, though.

Do we have matches and kindling?
If we have to set this ship on fire will we be able to fall back to a life boat?
Do we have a plan to kill this scout?
Are our clothes dark and the soles of our shoe/boots soft?
Do we have a knife or dagger?
Are we a sociopath? I wasn't aware we were a murderous lunatic. I'm not against playing murderous lunatics. Some of my best gaming experiences were when we were playing murder-hobos of the amoral persuasion. I just usually like to be warned ahead of time that's what we are.

Or develop better pheromones, that make people more inclined to like us? I dunno, seems like a more biological of a mechanism for increased CHA. Or maybe we'll develop a peacock's tail, or a brightly colored crest, or something of that nature. I don't know if that would help, though.

I will, however, note that we'd probably only get a CHA-boosting adaptation if we spend inordinate amounts of time trying to convince people of things. I don't think just being around people would be enough.

They talked about the changes like they were Hollywood evolution. Evolution is all about survival and reproduction.
True, but the changes are almost always immediately, physically relevant, so far as they know. Although...I doubt they have a theory of evolution, nor the science to understand more subtle adaptations, so there might be some alterations slipping by unnoticed.

Does someone who is able mind showing what's in the lead?

Thank you very much.

I want to talk about how I think it would be cool being a ghost lady or dude who can walk into an ancient ruin in another universe and ask the spirits who lived there what happened, or who can get herself a weird old ghost sorcerer as a tutor, or who actually has an invisible friend.
It's definitely a cool concept, but I'm not sure I'm happy with the risks. Normally I'd be fine, we'd just have to be careful, but it looks like this variation is moderately uncontrollable. Accidentally reanimating random nearby corpses is funny to think about but I don't want to actually have to deal with it happening in front of the townsfolk.

I'm not sure that's actually something that would happen. Just a single cat soul sticking around requires the magic level of a full-fledged mage to maintain. I can't imagine animating an army of the dead would be cheap enough to be able to do, while also maintaining our cat's bond to the world of the living.

I'll note that "weird scary monsters everywhere" also means "powerful zombies and spirits". If accidentally necroing things isn't a risk, then I'm all for approaching this with the pokemon mindset.

Pretty every previous protag was female, so I kind of feel like switching things up slightly. Beyond that, don't particularly mind.

I'd like to point out that if the Pokemon route is what people want, Conjurer allows for that without the stigma of necromancy, as well as an added bit of Social with the elementals, which from what I hear Social is Fun on SV.

Apparently, elementals of opposing types don't really get along.
You may. Your limits are the relationships between them (water and fire seldom get along, among others), how much of an element you can find/generate so you can actually summon them in the first place, and your mana reserves. Summoning them costs a moderate amount of mana, but you honestly don't know if maintaining a summon costs anything. You've only had access to the weakest of them thus far and you can't tell if they constantly drain mana / effectively slow down your regeneration. You know they would for a normal mage.
This is also just valuable information for comparing with Haunted.

I'm interested in how young we were when Wisp died, I guess. We might not have done it on purpose, but that doesn't eliminate intent. @Alivaril?

Oh, you definitely wanted him back. You were eleven when Wisp died and couldn't remember a time without him. You don't think you're in any danger of random resurrections.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of elementals are about as smart as pets, not people. So, Haunted would probably be better if you want social.

Gonna Re-do my vote.

Cool! Given that, bumping that one way up to the top. I do think that it has some of the best potential for social as well as what should be an interesting style.

The new Alivaril quest has started up, yay! Don't have a preference on gender, I do like the necromancer and summoner powers the best.

@Alivaril question: I presume that in the Academy we'll be taught magic. Do we know if necromantic stuff is strictly limited to those with inborn talent? Same with other schools of magic. Because I think we should get Imperfect, a unique adaptive trait, and then go on to study magic in the field of our interest, with Imperfect providing useful adaptations.

Speaking of, what kind of adaptations are we speaking about here? Sprouting wings? Eyes of Death Perception? Ability to turn into mist?

This coming morning is going to suck. I should really be asleep...

Nothing so broken as EoDP. Poison, better camouflage, wings, gills, better senses (including extra senses), more efficient organs, armored scales, ability to hibernate, etc. If it exists and it could help creatures survive better in their current environment, even if only a little, absorbed mana can give it to them.

Magical abilities, such as an aura of silence or mana-draining bites, usually don't start to manifest until a creature has already been improved significantly. Such creatures generally earn the classification of "monster" in short order.

None of the Talents, including Imperfect, have rough results which cannot be imitated with normal magic given sufficient time devoted toward imitating them. Methods may vary. The versions of those without applicable Talents tend to be more costly and worse in general, but they're possible.
