Our other two options are a tundra (horribly difficult to survive in) with magic (which in this setting is apparently a bit radioactive) and a thick forest that's already eaten a civilization alive (building a stone tower in a dense forest? lol).

I don't think it's quite that bad. The narration for the snowy area implies that it's fairly likely that we're just being overdramatic on account of being abruptly dropped in a much colder area than we were in a bit ago, and the tower could just be some reclusive wizard's house that's been abandoned for a few decades/centuries (wizards love towers).

'Hey, I doubt the QM will go all in 'in media res' or have us dimension hopping or in serious danger right away. we'll have a chance to learn a bit of magic before that'

SKYSHIP BREAKS APART AND FALL SCREAMING THROUGH DIMENSIONAL RIFT

'Well, okay.'

The tower would be neat if we had a proper full necromantic affinity. It's difficult to see what benefits there might be as we are. The grove at least has a chance to be affiliated with elementals. I'll have to strongly disagree that the social situation is automatically likely to be bad. It seems the easiest way to find food and shelter to me is the generosity of strangers. For everything else the chance isn't even present without additional luck.

[2] A ruined stone tower.
[1] A snow-covered wasteland.
[3] A camp.

Presumably-magical-non-snow-covered grove may have more/different elemental friends.

Gotta catch em all. :V

If it were a village or city I'd be far more inclined to risk it, and even if they were playing music or something as opposed to sparring for entertainment I'd be more inclined to risk it, and if we were playing a boy or even an ugly girl I'd be more inclined to risk it.

An unaccompanied and apparently very attractive sixteen year old girl who appears in a military encampment in the middle of the night after damaging someone's stuff does not end well, and while we could try to lean on board rules to prevent the most obvious unpleasantness it still seems like a pretty dangerous scenario unless we're ignoring human nature.

Not to say I think people in general are bad, but large groups of armed men isn't really a good sign for a young woman who is alone even in the modern world.

I just don't think Alivaril is going to write us into anything even approaching that kind of situation, period.

To be painfully blunt, given Jade's background in Ignition and certain events therein, I think Alivaril is perfectly capable of playing hardball, and a nasty experience with our first dimension hop feels very likely.

I'd rather deal with PTSD induced by monsters or whatever as opposed to MAJOR TRUST ISSUES because we happened into a situation that frequently displays low points in human nature.

We have a good number of elementals with us as is, so it's not like we will be defenseless if it comes to fighting.

You practically would, actually. Oh, they could be distracting, but the lil' fellas aren't even as large as your hands.

You didn't scream; it started and was over too quickly for that. :V

That joke is going to persist for the entire quest, isn't it? ...Well, could be worse. :p

That's a bit much; maybe somewhere like that in a later jaunt (war camps would be on the roll table eventually), but that would make the camp an outright trap option. That just wouldn't be OK.

So, I'll reiterate my position, then, that the camp has the most immediately apparent necessities and a comparatively clear path to obtaining them. Might be different if we had survival skills, but we don't.

The tower just sounds interesting. Camp would be good too. Maybe there's an 'Eh it's just a dimensional rift factor' around. Snow is last because of the survival hazard of cold.

*Shrugs* Hey, if you've got that much faith in human nature go for it. Just keep in mind the camp scenario also states we're appearing in the middle of the night, we've busted someone's tent, and they're militant enough to spar for fun whereas our fighting skill is pretty much nonexistent. I will give you that woodland survival sucks, just in what I see as a somewhat more predictable way.

We can summon minor elementals ridiculously easily. It's unclear how good a survival skill that is, but it's definitely not nothing.
16 wasn't noted as being able to survive in the wild while 18 and 21 were. One can only presume this means we lack the skills. I've seen no indication that elementals have any particular inclination to find food, determine what is safe to consume, or build shelter.

Looking through to try to figure out the survival situation, I'll note this:
Aside from seawater or possible mana contamination, you don't see why water wouldn't be safe. Well, provided it's the right color.
This probably means that we're magically disease-resistant in some way. So on the one hand, that means that we won't have a hard time finding water. On the other hand, it probably means that "survival" means "not getting eaten" more than it means "not starving". Which agrees with the part where we landed in something's house.
Are these numbers of each type? Or we call them by numbers rather than names.
There are two fours, so it's numbers rather than names.
