This vote is a horrid mess of formatting, which make figuring out how to call it difficult to say the least. It's a heap of write-ins built on write-ins in a great wobbly pile bereft of sub-vote formatting, and I'm not wading through it to figure out what you meant. Instead I'm just going to give you what you voted on, which is this.

[35] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit.
[44] Do not use Heroic Willpower.

In the future, if you want to add onto a plan with a write-in, use a sub-vote so that votebot can actually tell what you mean. I just went over this not even three updates ago.

Valid.
[x] Do the things
- [x] addition to the thing
- [x] something else

Confusing.
[x] Do the thing
[x] this thing should happen
[x] do this thing

One is a single vote with refinements, the other is actually three votes crammed onto one ballot. Writing now.

Uuuh...are you sure you're using the votebot correctly? Because that doesn't look like the votebot output at all, and as shown last page there is literally no issue with the current vote formatting wise...
The previous vote call grouped together and collated all perfectly identical votes. This does not take into account votes with write-in additions, votes that are worded slightly differently, and other variations that require the Individual Subvotes setting to be used.

...wait, so your entire problem with the vote is that it doesn't use '-'s?

I...what?

A significant fraction of the voters used "[] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit." as either a vote or a sub-vote, making it the most popular choice. Instead of manually counting dozens of votes to figure out whether its main vote form beat out the other main votes, I decided to just combine the two.

...typically, when there are multiple boxes with xs in a single post, players kind of expect that the GM will take everything in their post as a single vote. I...I don't think I've ever seen a Quest on this site - or any other for that matter - where things worked differently

Then they should have formatted their votes better.

Dude does it matter?

It is a dash that neither adds or subtract from the vote; You are are literally throwing out a majority of players votes for no reason.
No, I'm simplifying them. Thirty-five out of forty-seven voters wanted what I decided was the winning vote, and I'm not going to waste time trying to untangle the rest of the knot when I could be writing.

Is he? Most of the votes are essentially "[x] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit" with minor variations. A different word, or with minor grumbling added. However, the combination with the most votes has Joseph trying to get in good with Kyubey, which is significantly different than just making a map.

Edit: Ninja'd by the QM.

Seriously.....

There is no knot to untangle here! That specific block lost and the winning block you are throwing out because of a dash!

How the hell can this be be simplifying things when you ignore more than half the playerbase over nothing!

That vote block was still in the majority; He is literally throwing out more than half of the playerbase over a dash.

He's not. He took what they wanted to do in the overall thrust of it. At least wait for him to finish writing before declaring that the sky's falling.

Not especially?

Telling the majority of the playerbase that their vote doesn't count because they didn't add a dash with no prior indication that it would be a problem and then locking it is incredibly unfair to the playerbase.

...I have never seen a quest run like that, here or anywhere. If multiple actions/objects are within one post, it is understood that those are intended to be one vote. It has always been like this.

This system, where each line is somehow an individual vote separate from the rest of the post, is horrible as it essentially means that any deviation or disagreements will be cancelled out unless the players follow the finicky, unneeded rules given that exist for no reason but to be finicky.

Refer to Hyp3rB14d3's post. The votes that QM is talking about really are largely things stacked one on top of the other. In general, it looks like people want to make a map, with maybe half also wanting to suck up to Kyubey. Given that we haven't even seen the QM's post, we can't say for sure whether he's throwing those out completely. If he does, I honestly can't fault a guy for not wanting to go through and sort out the votes manually if something is throwing off the auto-counter.

Besides, it's his quest. If he wants to run it like that, then that's his prerogative.

Thing is it's not 'half the votes" refer to Hypers tally.

[35] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit.
[44] Do not use Heroic Willpower.

"Could some old man do this?" You huff, which devolves into an actual coughing fit that continues on for almost a minute.

Kyoko looks at you with something like contempt on her face, then she rolls her eyes. "Yes."

"This," you say, drawing Hermit Purple back until just a few inches of the thorny vine protrude from your hand, "is my Stand. The culmination of my drive and willpower, and more than that- it's got a nasty trick."

The girl stares at you blankly.

With a burst of willpower, Hermit Purple drives down and strikes the wooden floor at your feet! Cracks spiderweb out in lines and sharp corners from your feet.

"Big deal." Kyoko grunts. "I'm leaving."

And she does, the unobservant little twit.

"That's a map of the labyrinth." The invisible presence says from in front of you. "Remarkable."

"The only problem is that it's limited by the suitability of nearby materials." You grunt out as you examine the map, adjusting your glasses to bring the finer cracks into focus. "And that I don't see an exit. I don't suppose you know where it is, uh- OH I'M SORRY! My name's Joseph Joestar. Pleased to meet you."

You hold out your hand expectantly. ". . . Wherever you are right now. Can you turn visible so I can get a good look at you?"

"My name is Kyubey, but you're too old to see me. I'm only visible to children, and usually only to girls. It's a very unusual circumstance I will admit!" The psychic voice says to you, conducted from the ambient air into your body with Hermit Purple.

"Well, whadya look like then?"

In response a chunk of the wall the size of a pen breaks off and floats over to the edge of your map, where it sketches out an image on the floor. It's a small catlike, ferret-esque thing with pointed ears and a flat face, and a second set of ear-ribbon things coming out of its first ears.

It looks uuuuglee.

"Huh."

"And as to your earlier question, there is no way to leave a labyrinth once you have been lured inside, however, the Witch's barrier will fall shortly, and then its labyrinth will collapse."

"Oh, good then. Any idea whether there are more of those . . . cookie-monster 'familiar' things around?"

Kyubey is silent for a moment, then Hermit Purple picks up its psychic 'speech' again. "I do not believe so. When a Witch calls its familiars to defend itself from attack, in almost all cases they either die before the Witch or the intruder perishes. As Kyoko defeated it, there should be no familiars remaining to eat you."

Oh, well that's good news. But now that your survival and escape are assured, you have questions.

"You're going to ask if I can explain things, of course." The thing says, which is just plain creepy.

"While I can, I think that we would get better tangible results if I led you to Kyoko and let her explain the situation about Witches and Puella Magi such as herself. Alternately, Mitakihara is close by, and a friendlier Puella Magi like Mami might be a better choice. And then you can explain your Stand in return! It'd be a fair trade of information."

The world around you slows, then fades away in a moment, leaving you standing at the train terminal once again.

[] Travel to Mitakihara to meet with Mami
[] Go find Kyoko, make peace, and swap info.
[] You'd rather talk to Kyubey about this.
[] Actually, you just remembered why you're here.

Are people seriously complaining about the fact that the GM essentially told people to fuck themselves when they made a freaking mess out of their vote while also trying to sneak two complete actions onto the ballot?

The GM made pretty damn clear what he wanted.
If there is a prompt for choosing a single course of action, choose a single course of action.
If you do not like any of the given courses of action and there is a write-in option, write-in a single course of action.
If you want to add a bunch of suboptions to (pointlessly) personalize your vote, add specifics or clarify intentions, actually do so as a freaking sub-option.

There is a fucking reason the vote said:

To make matters absolutely clear, this:
[] Beating her up and making friends
[] Burn Heroic Willpower
Is an accepted vote.
It votes for a single one of the given otions in response to the prompt of "Choose One".

This:
[] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit.
[] Do not use Heroic Willpower
Is also an accepted vote.
It voted for a write-in, but those where explicitly allowed and this is still only a single course of action that is being voted to follow.

This:
[] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit.
[] Do not use Heroic Willpower
-[] That Cookie Maid had more respect for its elders than you do, brat.
Is also an accepted vote.
It only voted for single courses of action in response to the prompt of "Choose One" and denoted its subvotes as such.
One might question whether the subvote for grumbling shouldn't be attached to the first vote, but that's another matter.

This:
[] Get into the invisible person's good books. Your (adopted) daughter has an Invisibility stand, maybe this person has the same.
[]Is this brat always like this?
[] Actually, this girl sort of reminds you of Caesar when you first met...
[] Don't burn a Willpower
Is not a valid vote.
It votes for three things when it was supposed to choose one.
One might argue that the second and third line were clearly supposed to be sub-votes attached to the first, but one might reply that maybe the people voting for this shouldn't have been too fucking lazy to actually turn them into subvotes.
The GM is under no obligation to accomodate voter laziness and doing so only encourages further failure to make your intentions clear.

Which neatly leads to this:
[] Get into the invisible person's good books. Your (adopted) daughter has an Invisibility stand, maybe this person has the same.
[]Is this brat always like this?
[] Actually, this girl sort of reminds you of Caesar when you first met...
[] Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit.
[] Don't burn a Willpower
Which is not only clearly a failure to properly format the vote, but also an attempt to sneak two choices past a vote that explicitly demanded to "Choose One".
"Use Hermit Purple to make a candy map showing the exit" is a different course of action from "Get into the invisible person's good books".
Unless of course you are intending to somehow get into his good books by creating the map.
In which case you should have made it fucking clear was a subvote instead of expecting the GM to decypher this shit for you.

Edit:
Ninja update, Sweet!

Damn whippersnappers need to show some respect to an old man. This Mami sounds like a good, respectful girl. Let's go see her.

Edit: Pipeman makes an excellent point.

I'm mainly voting for this because someone that doesn't show respect to or accomodates the senile old man is much more hilarious to watch deal with one.
