Conflicting Views (PMMM/JJBA)

Problem with that is that asking questions wastes too much time and we need to reach the magical girls before they make it to the witch.

If anything we should ask the familiar if it can take us to the the people fighting before they make it to the "enemy stand user" and if that doesn't work try to head them off before they reach the witch.
You missed the important part.
Trying to metagame stuff is going to bite us in the ass when our expectations are inevitably used against us, and the only way to find out things for sure is to ask the only in-game source of information we have right now.
I've played a few TPK quests and Trying to metagame inevitably gets you spanked.

Drop all of the notions of what you'd like to do in the situation and instead think of what Joseph Joestar would do.

Guys, it can only speak in emoticons. Let's ask it questions that it can actually reasonably answer with that restriction.

[X]"Do you know where your Stand User is?"
-[X] "Do you know where this place is?"
--[X] "Do you know how to get back out?"
---[X] "Do you know what you are?"
----[X] "Can you take me to someone who can explain these things?"
1. "Expresses confusion, then understanding or simple confusion"-Joseph realizes it doesn't know what Stands are. And Familiar either assumes that Joseph is talking about the Witch or doesn't. Either way, Joseph realizes that this thing doesn't know what Stands are.

2. Fairly straight forward yes or no question

3. Yes or no question

4. See the last two questions

5. Finishes the conversation, also a yes or no question. Results in hostile reaction, passive reaction, or the familiar actually doing so. In which it would likely lead it either to the Witch or to a Magical Girl, or to Kyuubey.

Either way, it gives Joseph a fairly good idea of what he's working with outside of "An Enemy Stand thing"

Dude please stop; you're not convincing anyone and we are on a time limit.

We can't waste time asking questions and we should cut to the chase; You're forgetting that we're in enemy territory and are probably about to be attacked by familiars which we are in no shape to fight.

The sooner we reach the magical girls the better.

No.

Acting on information like "We need to reach the magical girls because we're going to be attacked by familiars" when we have no idea who the magical girls are, why we need to get to them, what the hell a familiar is, or that it's about to attack us is out of character.

And making out of character decisions is something I will not do.

Hey, buddy.

Imma stop you right here, right now. First of all, we're not on a time limit. Additionally, you're clearly speaking from a position of not knowing anything about the two most important factors in this situation

1) You don't know anything about Joseph in this situation. What he's capable of, and what he isn't

2) You clearly have never read or played a TPK Quest before, or if you did, you never learned from any of the instances where voters like you bandwagoned the Quest towards a Dead End.

There is no chase. There is an old man, trapped in a castle made of chocolate. Who is trying to figure out what the hell is going on. And considering that Joseph is considered a relatively benign example of the "adults are useless" trope in addition to the fact that even 20 years after his introduction people still compare him positively to Batman when he was already a decrepit old fart, then I would say acting in character for him will yield a lot of information as TPK writes him going over the information he's discovering and making his own conclusions.

So no.

This isn't about "not convincing anyone". There's two sides to the subject. People who get what we're dealing with.

And people who don't.

Guess which side of the coin you fall on?

Seems reasonable, also in-character.

You know, basic comprehension skills should tell us trying to get non-emoticon answers from something who can only speak in emoticons would be an exercise in futility. I'm pretty sure Joseph has that still and not been lost entirely to senility.

If we're going to ask question wouldn't asking questions it can actually answer be the smart move? Like, Can it lead is to its master or to where the explosions are.

I can't help but agree with you

Oh shoot. I forgot Madoka had a definite timeline to it.
79 means that timeline wise it's 1999 which is years before any date for when PMMM supposedly takes place (which according to the wiki is 2011).

Unless the timeline is in flux Mami should be currently 4 years old right now.
Yeah, corrected in the character sheet.

My problem with this is that emoticons aren't straightforward yes or no unless the user is both highly inclined to help and able to divorce them from actual emotion.

Happy could be, "I know where we are," "I know everything I need to about where I am" or "I'm so happy that you're lost."

And that is if the thing isn't intentionally giving unhelpful answers as revenge for grabbing it.

It might be able to nod or shake its head.

It has a head, yes?

Then it can nod for "yes" and shake it's head for "no".

Don't forget that you can explain away any timeline shenanigans as Made in Heaven-induced 'glitches'.

Then it can nod for "yes" and shake it's head for "no".
And if it can't do either of these things, then we'll know that it can't. Either way, we learn something.

Vote Change:

[X] Introduce yourself.
-[X] Ask why the enemy Stand User has attacked you.
--[X] Make a valiant attempt to have the Stand answer your question with Charades instead of those emotiwhatchamacallits.
---[X] If successful, ask more questions.

---[X] If not, "Well, take me to your Master then!"

C-C-C-Combo Vote!

To be perfectly fair, IC we don't know if it's here to kill us or not. So we do have to be a little worried about that. Especially since it's noted to be very tough. If it will respond with Yes/No questions wouldn't our first concern be if there's anyone else trapped in here?

So now that we know it's 2011, we know that Joseph's probably too old for this. But this also means that Shizuka's twelve, which means-
Oh no...
I don't really see any Stand User having the potential to become a Magical Girl. One of the requirements to even have a stand is having significant willpower which would be something of a hurdle to get over as far as falling into despair goes. That doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible, but the amount of effort to make a stand user fall to despair seems like Incubators would focus on people who are less psychologically resilient.
Kyuubey has to actually find her first, though
Also this.

Magical girls potential is related to the effect they will have upon the world.

So for example, if Dio was female he'd be the most bullshit Magical Girl ever. :V
