As a general note: All snippets in this thread can be considered up for adoption, with a couple of basic conditions:
  1. If you use my actual text, in whole or in part, please credit me.
  2. Please drop a note here stating that you've started a story based on a snippet, with link(s) as appropriate. Even if the site says "there haven't been any posts here for a while..."

In addition to hydroelectric dams, we also have wind turbines that have straight up loose air (which can contain steam, I guess?) spin the turbine. They do tend to have a much larger required area of operation than dams, as well as a larger than average number of uninformed protesters insisting that any number of easily disproven things are bad about them. The same group around where I used to live is also protesting the local solar installations because "they're stealing our sunlight that our crops need! Look how brown and dry my garden (that never gets watered) is since they put in those panels next door! If they put any more of them in we'll have to go to work in the dark!", so they don't get a lot of credit.

Now I'm wondering if they can put smaller wind turbines around the base and and top of power-plant cooling towers? I mean they have the ones with the helical blades that can be oriented parallel to the ground surface.
