Children of a Scorched Earth

We might want to invest in some sort of launching system. It looks like we're going to be sending a lot of stuff to Earth, and possibly other areas, which doesn't mind long, slow, low-dV transits and which doesn't need to come back, so just hurling it out would presumably be much cheaper than running Arclites for everything.

On the other hand, the current plan massively increases the amount of Arclites and fuel we are going to have available.

Then again. Redundancy is a good thing.

Are you thinking of a simple mass driver system, or do you have something more exotic in mind?

Mass driver is probably the easiest considering that it's intended for small, durable, non-time-critical payloads. Given the low gravity and lack of atmosphere we could also use a scram cannon, ETC system, or even just an upscaled chemical artillery piece. I'm just concerned that the GM mentioned that we don't actually have a feasible way to get the Net to Earth right now, which suggests that Arclite flights are far from cheap, which really isn't surprising. If one is willing to spend a month or two riding the edge of orbits it's possible to cut the necessary dVs for transit to a tenth or less, provide that from the ground, and then cheaply aerobrake and have a semi-guided landing or aerial deployment. Arclites are more important for getting things back from Earth, and a large scale of that isn't really our major concern right now.

If we want to get fancy a rotovator tied into a cycler network is probably the next step. A more significant project, but it would make bulk transport back from Earth's orbit to Luna also a negligible expense and cut the transit times to a few days.

I'm really just waiting on a final vote.

I must make an unfortunate announcement. There is the distinct possibility that I will be unable to continue as GM. As you may have noticed, I've been unusually absent as of late. I'm not doing this quest justice. I have a successor in place who can probably guarantee the relatively painless transfer of power, provided he accepts my offer. If I feel I can remain as gm, I will. I'm very uncertain and will be making contact with him. If he is unwilling to continue as gm, then I will ask that either someone else or a rather daring council member take my place. I will provide updates as I get them.

Well that's sad to hear, well hopefully things go well either which way.

Even if I were to resign, I'd almost certainly stay on as an adviser. I won't let 100 pages of background work go to waste.

Edit: looking into things, my plans for succession do not bode well. I officially place the open offer for anyone who wishes it to come forward to take my place. If the council has anyone they'd like to recommend, please do so.

Well hopefully things will be looking bright, no this is not my throwing in my lot for successor.
