Bunraku (Samurai Mecha Quest)

[X]In the city of Autumn.

Let's take advantage of our lineage.

[X]In the city of Autumn.

I
hope that we can one day manage to become the new ruler. This could either be the endgame or the begining of a new phase of the game that focuses on city-building.

Becoming the lord of the city is possible, in time, but not in any way right now because you have no family of your own, no one willing to back you for doing so, and lords fear a resurgence of Imprerial authority. It is also, notably, possible in both Autumn and Spring; not so much in Summer unless you try to oust a Dragon (bad idea), but on the other hand a Heavenly Dragon would not consider a new emperor a threat and might be willing to back one, so it's perhaps your best bet if you wish to some day angle for Empress Tomoe.

(looong way to go, that one.)

[X]In the city of Summer

Can't say that I'm terribly enamoured by the idea of politics, now Giant Robot Dungeoneering on the other hand...

Hm. Summer sounds fun gameplay wise, and it sounds like we'd get some lore out of it which I always like, but even if politics isn't my idea of a good time I also wanna go with Autumn, since I don't like the idea of abandoning our home at an important time for it.

[x]In the city of Summer, ruled by a Heavenly Dragon. Such a lord will be an arrogant and authoritarian master, affording you little freedom, but he will respect you for your Imperial blood where mortal nobles would fear you as a threat. It may be your chance to see for yourself the secrets of the fallen heavens and the secret magics rumored to be worked in this city.

A life in service to a mad master, with a dash of treasure-hunting and tomb-raiding? Gimme!!

[X] In the city of Spring. Its lord is human, and his military power weak enough that he will be all too glad to claim you and likely will grant you a fair degree of autonomy; but you will have to deal with their strange religion and the only barely-amicable kami of their lands, and may not find their worship to your taste.

My general experience is politics and quests make poor bedfellows, so Spring or Summer. I like the idea of learning a strange place of kami more.

Man, I'm torn. On the other hand, my experience does show that while they sometimes don't mix, they *can* be done well, but...hrm. I'm going to wait to see if I'm convinced. Don't want to become a Ronin, but other than that...hrm.

Giant robot samurai dungeoneering while working for a dragon and finding out ancient mysteries.
Yeah, I'd give up a little bit of autonomy for that.

I've always wanted to play as a character who served another, and I want to see power dynamics and other such things. My master, right or wrong, etc. And it sounds super, super cool.

[X]Reject the thought of a new master and embrace the life of a ronin. Scavenge the battlefield for supplies for your and you bunraku, then head into the heartlands and hope to find a way to survive as a wandering warrior.

I am kind of wary about Summer/Falling Mountain as a combination of choices - of all of the Bunraku, the low mobility army-killer seems the least likely to have properties amenable to scavenger hunts, while due to the much more powerful central authority in Summer we can't leverage the abstract idea that we are an army-killer as well as we could in Autumn or Spring (particularly Spring, whose military weakness makes us more valuable). It will, unless Summer gets into a lot of wars, render our mech less meaningful, which doesn't seem ideal in a story about being samurai mech-pilot.

I could leave the vote open for another day so you can discuss the respective merits of the cities, more people can chime in or some can change your votes if you want to, but I don't seriously expect to get much more than the 18 votes I'm counting right now and I'd like to get the game going quickly enough. I will be updating unless there's a sudden call by players for another 24 hours.
