The 1st Division is more exciting than meets the eye. Absolutely! Also, once a month, the captain organizes a tea party for the whole division.

Frank talk!! with the 9th Division lieutenant, Shūhei Hisagi

Since the captain who leads the 1st Division is the Head Captain Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto, your first thought might be that this division is too hard for you. But actually, the captain throws a tea party once a month, and they hold really creative events in the lieutenant's English-style classroom, and it's a lot of fun! Plus, the 1st Division is near the bath house, and lately, the newspaper's been doing a feature on stone saunas, which they also have. So for those of you who want to get stronger, but don't want to get worn out, this is the division for you!

Shinigami Women's Association Aptitude Test
According to the Shinigami Women's Association aptitude test, those who consider themselves "leaders" are best suited for this division as Captain Yamamoto is a captain's captain and serving under him means that leadership skills are learnt from the very best.
maybe we can try for 1st?

Captain Hitsugaya's division? Why?
Do you, or do you not, want to see Ichigo acting as Hitsugaya?

On a more serious note, Hitsugaya is serious and takes initiative. Remember, I think he's the only captain to actually check up on central 46. He's the right amount of by the book and competency levels to me.

Where as first division? There's a reason why he has a nickname of Old Man Genocide.

Personally, I believe that the First, Fourth, Tenth, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Divisions are all really good fits for this Ichigo, from the little I've seen of him thus far anyways.

However, I honestly think that the Thirteenth is the best match as Ichigo has something of a dislike against direct authority (strike against the First and Tenth), needs to see his family not matter what (strike against the Fourth), and honestly, doesn't fight for the sheer sake of it (strike against the Eleventh).

Eh, I think your forgetting something about Hitsugaya. And that's who his Vice-Captain is. And how she acts. I think Ichigo wouldn't have as much of a problem with him.

Ah, but considering how much frustration Matsumoto brings to Hitsugaya's plate, what's not to say that this in turn has Hitsugaya being a tad more authoritarian/demanding than he should be?

But in all seriousness though, Matsumoto is one of the most experienced VCs Soul Society has and if it wasn't for Aizen fucking up her potential, she should have been a Captain by now. This does give her a certain amount of leeway when it comes to her behaviour (the experienced VC part, not the Aizen bit), but that does not change Hitsugaya's own attitude.

For me a big question in deciding a division is what do we intend to do after visiting our family. Like, we go to Karakura and then what? Hard to plan for since with Ichigo dead the plot is going to be so out of whack. I guess we want to keep Aizen from getting the Hogyoku?

Maybe that'll be delayed for a few years? I hope so at least.

Who knows. To give just one example of how things change from Ichigo dying, it means that he isn't there for Rukia to transfer her power to aafter she gets beaten by that hollow, so there isn't the reason for her to be taken to trial and executed, which is how Aizen intended to get the Hogyoku. From there the whole plot is derailed, as the thread title suggests.
