Zaraki (Which I just noticed autocorrects into Satanic) is the obstacle, yachiru is something to protect.

My understanding is that Yachiru is also the spirit of 11th captains sword, while also having her own release (both shikai and bankai?).

Yachiru is indeed the spirit of Nozarashi, Kenpachi's zanpakuto. Her "Sanpo Kenju" isn't actually a zanpakuto in its' own right, merely one of Yachiru's special abilities as Nozarashi. Presumably, Kenpachi will learn how to use it himself one day.

Could be Nanao, could be Nemu. Rangiku is probably not "stoic", sadly.

Blustering man might be Omaeda, but it could also be Captain Wolf Head's lieutenant. Whose name escapes me. He wears sunglasses, and has drinking contests with Ikkaku.

Edit: Also, the whole fight with Zangetsu went pretty well, I'd say. Got some good talk time in, landed some shots. Good update, definite progress.

There are some people that fit the bill of 'little girl', and at least some of them are... reasonable to encounter in-context, as alternatives to Yachiru.

You know, barring OC of course.
  • Top of the list is Rurichiyo Kasumiōji, puppet head of a Noble family from a filler arc that's pretty heavily involved in making Zanpakuto alternatives that I'm halfway certain Mayuri would be all about, called Bakkōtō. She lives in Soul Society, has the social hierarchy privileges that her visiting the academy seems quite doable, and she's already sporting bodyguards (that aren't that good in a fight and she just might know it). Further, the clan assassin troupe that she probably doesn't know about yet would likely love to get someone like Ichigo, and as far as I understand 'em Ichigo'd fit the bill of 'someone you want to subvert in the academy like that other guy' pretty squarely. She/her clan's got means and motive, potentially, to shoot for strawberry-head.
  • You'd have to stretch the definition of little girl a bit (not that much), but honestly Kuchiki Rukia'd fit the bill. She's a Soul Reaper, she's not currently assigned to Karakura, and she's got grapevine access to hearing of a guy that looks like a minimally recolored Kaien (thanks Shinigami Women's Society, you terrifyingly powerful shadow cabal you!). Additionally there's the obvious of general scouting reasons for pestering the hazard-hued one. Really, the only reason she's not the top pick is because while Rukia's easily describable as a small girl, little is a bit much, I think - too much childish connotation that she just doesn't seem to have.
  • Urahara and Isshin have a pretty clear connection to assure a reasonable chance Urahara's pestered into having to do something, to check in on Isshin's dead kid. 'Little girl' seems a perfectly apt description for a gigai he's got, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the soul was modelled similarly for the mod soul Ririn. I'd honestly be a bit surprised, but it seems a far more likely Urahara-rooted possible person than the next one...
  • Sarugaki Hiyori, pipsqueak of the Vizored and former LT of Hat n' Clogs Urahara himself, just maybe possibly might be the little girl. It'd be a big dumb huge risk for a bunch of reasons, but there's a connection there, between her link to Urahara that Isshin might be hasslin' for a son check-up, and with how she's frankly somewhat prone to taking big dumb risks, as a person.
That's about it as far as I can tell - anyone else would be at least as big as Rukia, and have tenuous-at-best reasons to be here. I'd bet on Hiyori before the lil' science girl from the 12th.

I'm really pulling for Rurichiyo, since I really liked the ideas behind her filler arc, and feel it could easily be adapted to make for interesting, familiar-yet-novel shenanigans and struggles at school. Spies, noble family shit, the seedy underside of spiritual bullshit? Fun times!

Even a small chance of meeting Yachiru and injecting that brand of chaos into the academy is worth it.
