Having recently rewatched the Soul Society arc of the TV show, there's a point where Rangiku specifically says he gathered together all the lieutenants and showed them his Shikai. It's in the sequence where she and Hitsugaya bust in to the Central 46 chamber and find him there. Not just Renji, Momo, and Izuru.
That doesn't mean he routinely shows it to Academy students, though.
