I feel like Civil Discussion reads more like Ichigo is mulishly objecting to the order to 'get back', while this, the food option has him going with it, but after getting back scrounging up more situation de-escalating foodses for miss Sandwich to scarf down all tsun style. And, I feel like it'd really help bleed out the direness of the situation, if the Arrancar was busy gobbling down assorted onigiri and other snacks, while she's threatening/explaining shit to the tense Shinigami. It just... eats away at her ability to come off as serious, you know? And that's worked out well so far!

Nope. The 13th squad has two 3rd seats. Nobody was willing to take Kaien's spot after he died until Rukia did during the timeskip.
