Bleach: Derailed

Though this does remind me, TPK what is Zangetsu's release phrase?

Don't know if this is what TPK will use, but this is the phrase Old Man said before Zangetsu manifested in Shikai against Urahara: "Abandon your fear. Look forward. Move forward and never stop. You'll age if you pull back. You'll die if you hesitate. My name is...!"

That's the closest thing I've found to a Shikai phrase for Zangetsu.

They are a problem that's going to keep for a while, and while we do want to get on that, they're not our sole priority, nor are they directly connected to all our priorities.
Need I remind you that Ichigo's largest priority at this point is to go to Karakura to see his family again? The fastest way to do that is to gain a seated position in the right division, and the best way to do that is to have a shikai.

Zangetsu is connected to our priorities.

[X] See what's up with Kukaku
Who could she be? Truly, we must investigate!

Edit: Unrelated aside, does the tiny Zangetsu have any basis in canon, because it seems familiar, and I feel like I've seen it in a few fics/quests, but I can't seem to locate any mention of it on wikis or discussion of canon Bleach.

I'm not upset about Zangetsu option leading, nor surprised, not really, but it's yet another example of picking sword polishing over hanging out with actual real people and I might possibly be a little sick of the attitude in general.

Eh.

Eh.
Zangetsu is as real a person as any of the other options, though.

It's also not the only way. There are several seated officers who don't even have shikai. While they're definitely the fastest way, if this kind of thing is going to pop up every time we have a disagreement, that would eat up whatever time advantage relying on them for a seat would get us. Also we've proven ourselves entirely capable even without using shikai. Went through the entire tournament without using that until the end, where we went on to still not use it on someone who did. I don't think it unreasonable to think we could get a seat without using Zangetsu.

I still think we should patch things up with Zanetsu (if for no other reason than we're kind of stuck with them), but they're not the only way to achieve our goal, just the theoretically easiest.

*Unamused stare* Clearly you didn't.
I most definitely did.

But whatever, it's been clarified now so it doesn't matter.

I'm not aware of Zangetsu ever having a release phase in canon. In this quest, I suspect TPK may be actively hiding it in preparation for some dramatic reveal further down the line.

Name them please. I'm curious.

Also, remember, Zaraki Kenpachi is an outlier.
I don't recall any double digit seated officers having it, for one. I'll have to check for specific names, though.

Also, I didn't say 'captains', just 'someone at seated rank', which is all we need to get assigned to the living world. Frankly at the moment reaching captain or vice-captain rank would work against us for that. Having shikai is great for continued advancement as a shinigami, but as of now, we're only in it for the living world access, which doesn't have as high a requirement.

Edit: While checking, it's looking like 'being a seated officer' may not even be necessary to be assigned to patrol the living world. Might also require a partner in that case, but just found that sort of interesting. Still think we can at least make seated at our current rate.

[X] Meet with Komamura
... Yes, I know I've already voted for this once, but after that preview I just had to do so again.

The Ranks go up to 3rd before the Vice Captain and Captain Ranks, it's only logical that they should be considered the 2nd and 1st Seated members of a Division.

Certainly, I will be waiting for the names, however as it stands only Makizou Aramaki and Toshimori Umesada are noted, and both have "Unknown" attached to their Shikai status.

Zommari was a Hollow, not a Quincy. He was the 7th Espada. He never "floated around on a cloud" not can I remember anyone in Bleach who ever fit such a description. And no Quincy in Bleach was ever named or described as a monk. Only on character in Bleach ever was and that was Ichibe.
Sternritter "L" love, he' s essentislly a reusef asset of Zommari's power/concept

I'm aware, but I'm also not denying that the higher the rank, the more likely to both have shikai and be able to control it they are. And as you said, Zaraki's kind of a massive outlier.

As far as the second, going by the wiki, every shinigami that doesn't have their shikai shown on-screen is listed as "unknown", so I'm not sure if they're going for 'has shikai, we just don't know what it is' or 'erring on the side of them having it'. Because strictly speaking every shinigami 'has' shikai, just that it's apparently not entirely uncommon for them to not know how to bring it out.

In any case, we do have shikai, and we're apparently entirely capable of handling ourself in combat without using it (at least against opponents of similar training to us). I'm just not certain that 'got shikai far earlier than is common, but hasn't gotten it completely reliable in the couple of weeks or so since getting it' is some huge black mark against us.

The sole of your sandal hits his wide face with a doubled slap echoed by the dull thud of seven-plus feet of soul reaper trainee hitting the ground like a fallen tree, felled by sudden concussive impact.
Someone slides a letter under your door, inviting you to dinner with Komamura-taicho, captain of the seventh division.
@TPK, if you're going to go full weaboo and use honorifics, at least have the decency to use the metric system as the Japanese use. Imperial measurements plus honorifics is barbaric.

Metrics are barbaric! :p

You say this but metric units are based on increments of 10 and are easily converted both within unit types and outside of them: density calculation is a goddamn nightmare in Imperial, as the first example I can think of. Meanwhile I honestly don't know what most of the measurements for Imperial even are, except that 100 Farenheit was apparently set at "average rectal temperature of a horse" for some unknown reason that I really don't wanna know.
