Birthright: A Muggleborn Quest

I know the Weekend Watchtower is supposed to be a wizarding tabloid but this is eighteen years after the end of Harry Potter. If McGonagall is the same age as her Harry Potter movie actress than she really must be old. Kind of a reach to say that they were having a "salacious sojourn".

Also, Ron is taking driving lessons. That can only end badly.

Let's see, born in '35, 81 years old, which for a Wizard isn't that old. I mean, look at Albus.

We know her birthdate. October 4th, 1935. McGonagall is currently about 81 (Book 7 happened in 98, this is 18 years after that, 2016)

Wouldn't it be Mrs. Weasley, Mrs. Weasley-Granger?

Or are you basing this on Emma Watson's quote that she thinks Hermione would keep her maiden name?

Both Ron and Hermione kept their last names and hypenated them onto their children.

Magic tends to slow down the aging process. Dumbledore was past his first century and he could have kept going for another few decades. McGonagall is barely past her Diamond Jubilee. Plus, the "scandal" is more about the Headmistress of Hogwarts being seen shopping with a young man. Barely anyone is going to give a shit, but it still sells.

This would great for his utility bill.
Good to see that Ashton has his priorities straight. :D

And can someone explain this stuff about:
"Tang is sending out another expedition into the Dreamtime."
"I don't know. My sources say they'll be breaching the first Songline within a month but beyond that? Well, you know how time works there. They could have reached the fifth Songline, if there is a fifth, and we won't know about it until months or years later." Hermione took a deep breath.
? I admit that I'm not familiar with these terms.
EDIT: Or are this original terms?

Oh, and a bit of a teaser, but I was doing some background rolls for Ashton last update and rolled for Attractiveness on a flat d100. You critted. Twice. Unfortunately, Ashton is the type that dislikes attention so he isn't that aware of it, but whenever he decides to doll himself up (like for the last update), he literally turns heads.
No wonder the tabloid ran the article anyway.

I get the feeling we are either going to get one very beautiful wife or a hand full of wives because of some magical contract our Magical Ancestors made years ago that will soon be active.

So, if i'm interpreting that half-prophesy right, something major is due to happen in under two years, something with a connection to 'lightning' (wonder if it's got anything to do with Harry?) and a promise 'it' made/was given. Assuming prophesies don't often cut out, that might mean that the subject wasn't too keen on being predicted and disrupted things, which implies quite a lot of power and danger. Someone's exploring the 'Dreamtime', which sounds vaguely Lovecraftian. Oh, and we're apparently important to some secret conspiracy that we know nothing about.

This is going to turn out to all be connected, isn't it?

Edit: Thinking further, it could be that the prophesy was interrupted by Amelie's stutter, and not any outside influence. Or I could be completely wrong on both counts. Oh well, we'll probably find out eventually.

Of course it does, the setting is Harry Potter.

I was thinking about his scar, actually, not just his general importance to the setting. The shape is pretty iconic, and it's the first thing that came to mind. Has Harry lost any 'promises'?

...Does the Elder Wand's allegiance count as a promise? Because if he was disarmed by someone, then it might have shifted away from him, which doesn't sound good.

You're forgetting Ron's driving test.
There isn't enough information to connect it to the conspiracy yet. Though I'm guessing him failing probably will result in some sort of major consequence down the line...Or maybe Hermione'll just yell at him about it.

His scar is why he's so important. Because of the promise
Article:
and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives...

To me, the mark is the promise. They are equals, and shall be rivals as long as they both live. Origionally, when Voldy died, the promise was fullfilled. But if we are Voldy reborn somehow, then the prophecy will rear it's ugly head again.

I guess I'm not that used to the idea that in the wizarding world eighty is not all that old. I'll keep it in mind. Also, something that just came to me, but it's possible is Ashton is unknowingly part-Veela, as in his great-great-great grandmother was a Veela. He wouldn't have any of the Veela abilities (or is female) but it could explain away his good looks. Even if that's not the case, maybe there's something magical involved anyway.

Also, the idea that Ashton Bell is the reincarnation of Voldermort is intriguing. Terrifying but intriguing.

Like the spouse of the very progressive Minister being caught magically brainwashing a muggle to pass an exam. Which how it goes in canon.

I'm the one who called it, but I hope it's not actualy true. It sounds like a bad fanfiction.

Tang likely refers to China, aka the Tang dynasty. For Dreamtime, it might be Australian Aboriginal Mythology, which is called the Dreaming or Dreamtime. Rus would be Kievan Rus the precursor to Russia that existed before the Mongols overran it.

I haven't read much Harry Potter fanfiction, but I feel as if the concept has a lot of horror potential, such as someone else possessing you and trying to tear down and take over your identity. So even if it's been done before, it can still have a new take...

Assuming that is where the Quest is going.

Knowing the HP fandom, there's an entire subgenre of fics about it, none of which are remotely well written.

I get the feeling that the main character was at Hogwarts before and was probably unjustly expelled and obilivated.

Like the reason he can't be sorted because he already was and they're giving him a exception on his magic education as a way to make it up to him without revealing what they did wrong.
