Beneath Celestial Depths (An Arpeggio of Blue Steel Quest)

The Azure Sword, by Jane Smith

Clearing Fog: The End of the Fog Menace, by Jake Costello

Glass Stained World, by Jordan Martinez

A Scarlet Haze, by Himegami Mutsuki

Naval Instruction 7th Edition, by Felix Maddox

Around the World in Eighty Days, Jules Verne
Interesting titles. A story likley on Blue Steel by a fake author, a book on beating the fog, and one on the Scarlet Fleet and likley its continued activities.
You made some Klein Field steps down to your hull and walked down your deck
We have Klein Fields? How did we make them into steps?
It was morning and there was a problem. You were standing out on the rocky shores of the island with your arms crossed, looking at the object that manage to find its way to your safehouse. It was a wreck... Not just any wreck but a piece of a Warship. Its sleek design was abnormal, totally unlike any design you've come across before.

This was possibly the result of humanity's advancement in two hundred years but it was a Warship nonetheless. And here it lay, broken to piece on your shores. You're not sure what to make of this but this didn't bring you much joy at all. You weren't able to discern its name but that didn't matter, you've scanned it multiple times since you found it but it didn't seem to have any human crews.

Remote controlled? AI controlled?

That didn't matter much for you... what did matter was the Thanathonium levels you've detected upon the wreckage. It was the telltale sign of a corrosive torpedoes' handiwork. This either meant two things... The Cruise ship was attacked somehow and its escorts waged battle to send it back to friendly waters... And it was either attacked by the Scarlet Fleet vessels stationed around Hawaii or a new Fog Ship awakened in the vicinity.
1. Remember how I said the QMs would make us leave anyway? This is it. The military will now be arriving, so we will be leaving beforehand.
2. Scarlet Fleet's still making raids despite the orbital weapons? Interesting.
3. Large unmanned warships? Not that surprising. Still, not much description to go off of for further speculation.

[X] Try accessing the Tactical Network. If there are indeed Fog Ships awakening, they should be converging there.

Worst-case scenario, Scarlet Fleet yells at us. They won't know where we are, or what we're doing. There is no reason not to do this. While we're here, we can spend the day reading those books.
Also, Hawaii is not friendly people. It's Scarlet Fleet waters. We want to go pop over to the people who want us dead for a social visit? Let's either find the people who we were friendly with. Or anyone wants to go to America can pester @AnonymousRabbit, @Higure, and @TheBleachDoctor to make it an option.

[X] You can try using the Satellite Uplink you've hacked before. But there's no telling if they'll be able to notice you now if you used it. Nevertheless, the information is still there.

It's been just one day, so we do have time before the human military steps up it's activities. In game terms, that likely means 1-2 more updates. The moment we detect a warship, any warship, heading for the island we grab Mary and book it for Antarctica, running silent.

Can we scrap the remains of the shipwreck? Surely having those materials would be better for repairs then the old junk that was lying around in the subpen? On the subject of the shipwreck though it seems like humanity has been building ships based on the Fog. Clearly not on the same level since its using mundane materials and doesnt have a Core but its still an AI controlled ship. I think after we have done what we need to do here we should soon. Someone might come to investigate their lost ships.

I'm banking on the JTN not giving away our position, which I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Anyway, I wanna see if anyone else is waking up

...I feel like like only having one minor action is kinda hurting the argument to stick around the sub pen. The point of coming back was to repair and rearm, but we don't really have a way of determining just how damaged we are, what kind of weapons and systems we have, and the like. It would help us decide when we're in good enough of condition to leave.

In the meantime, that one wreck seriously helped us it sounded like, so... I'm thinking we hang around two more days, use the JTN today, scavenge or something tomorrow, and use the uplink on the third day right before we leave the place. Heck, using the uplink sooner could work as well, as long as people realize, the sooner we use it, and the longer we hang around, the more time people have to put a Task Force together to check us out. Which is a good way to give ourselves a timer. Which is good because it helps prevent us from wanting to turtle, and bad because we have a unknown timer on (probably American) enemy forces locating us.

Also, Hawaii is a bad idea. Remember, we voted to fuck over the scarlet fleet. If we want to look for allies, we should go North and look in the Arctic. ...Or was it the Antarctic? We should go find Blue Steel wherever they are.

Either way, we should get information before deciding on a destination.

Our position is already compremised. Might as well use the sat while we can.

Edit: Actually wait, can we just head to someplace in the middle of the ocean before deciding on a proper destination. We don't really have enough info to decide where to go yet but I have a feeling we should be leaving now.

It's an artifact of the quest format, but logically, wouldn't the correct order of operations be to access the uplink, get extra data on the state of the world, and only then decide where we're going?

Presumably, that would be how it plays out in the update.

And the people who are voting for Hawaii are making me want to bang my head against the wall. Do they want us to commit suicide or something? We are not fit for doing anything but running and hoping we don't get noticed at the moment. And if we're going to run, we best run towards the people least likely to shoot us based on our past experience: that would be Blue Steel, not Crimson (who are the MOST likely to shoot us) and not the Americans. So if you're gonna vote to run somewhere, vote to run to Antartica.

and who says we need to do anything more than scout the place?

If we were in any condition to try and risk a scouting mission, sure. But at the moment, it's an unnecessary risk. We can't afford unnecessary risks this early.

honestly I think the big problem is that Hawaii is the only place we really know anything about, and people, myself included, are being reluctant to strike out into the complete unknown

anything could happen out there

at least with Hawaii we know what we're getting into

No? We have some idea what will happen with each place we go. For example, we know which place will be the most and least likely to get us shot at.

...I do not remember this

Then reread the updates. That will tell you who we pissed off the most (Crimson Steel) and who we helped the most (Blue Steel). It will also tell you that Blue Steel is probably down in Antartica and Crimson Steel is over in Hawaii. So we know from that that going over there is the most likely get us shot at and going down to Antartica will most likely get us not shot at.

Good Idea, better to run to the area where we might have allies then where we KNOW there are enemies.

Fixed my earlier vote.

right, just did that

really all we know is that some nations are bigger than we remember them being, and that relationships between the AE and Oriental...whatever it was, are probably a bit strained

and that Europe still exists

honestly we have almost zero actual information beyond what we can infer and deduce

my point being that we don't actually know that Antarctica is least likely to get us shot at

unless I missed something?

at this point though, I'm willing to concede that Hawaii may not be the best idea, but I still have no idea where we should go

Well, then, based on the knowledge we do have... we can make an educated guess that Antartica is the least likely to get us shot-on-sight at. We can make an educated guess on the Crimson Scarlet as the most likely. The human nations are the real unknown. Maybe they wouldn't shoot us if we approach broadcasting "Friendly ship! We don't mean any harm! Please don't shoot!" but maybe not.

Although sticking around for a little while longer and tapping into the potential sources of information (the sat net and the Tactical Network) we do have at our disposal to get a better picture is also an option.

I think...yeah
knowing more about what we're likely to run into before we run into it can't be a bad plan

okay

revised vote

[X] Try accessing the Tactical Network. If there are indeed Fog Ships awakening, they should be converging there.

which feels weird given how much I really do want to get out of here, but the way the vote is structured...
