Beneath Celestial Depths (An Arpeggio of Blue Steel Quest)

We have the biggest, most bullshit core on the planet.
I am happy with my choice.

That may be true, but we are also almost completely defenseless right now

As soon as we make sure the kid didn't accidentally give herself radiation poisoning we are scouring this base from top to bottom in search of parts and ammo

Aaaaaand we have our first non-canon omake idea for any of the writers out there...

Hiei looked out across the empty sea. It seemed calm and peaceful, the stars twinkling serenely above, but a certain level of paranoia had her within its grip. "Nachi!" She called out. "Scan the area again. We can't allow anything past us!"

"Affirmative," Nachi responded. "Scanning now..."

Silence reigned as the heavy cruiser did her work. There was danger here, Hiei just knew it, but her ever-watchful subordinate would root it out.

"Nothing but coral, fish... and a cardboard box."

"A cardboard box?"

"Yes. It measures 110 meters in length, 9 meters across, and is traveling past us about a kilometer to the east at a rate of... ten knots. But otherwise, it's shaping and material would suggest nothing more or less than a large cardboard box."

Hiei blinked. "Okay... well, seems fine. Let it pass."

"Affirmative!"

The sense of danger had gone away, leaving Hiei to sigh in relief. There was nothing out there after all, for the time being. To borrow a human phrase, they had this mission in the bag.

Maybe we can later upload her into a (or our) core and give her a ship.

Not really a fan of the Brute-force hacking, too overt for our spy-sub-supercruiser's taste. Lets see if we interface with the systems physically and try and bypass some security, even if we have to dig through the walls to get at the wiring.

Mhm. Mhm. *nods*

Fog quest? Check. Blue Steel aligned? Check. Shouzou is a dickhead? Of course, duh. Token adorable waif girl companion? Check. Insane mode? ...Was it ever even a question? Most ridiculously OP Union Core ever, apparently? Psh, yeah.

I can get behind this. This is shaping up to be most excellent.

[] Brute Force Hack the control systems.
-[] Access the lift and explore the rest of the facility.
-[] Attempt to connect to external networks. Surely they're more up to date.
-[] Subvert and Rewrite control systems to prevent a counterattack from... something. If you triggered anything.

Mmm. Options.
  • Learn more about available resources and how sustainable our current situation and position is. That's definitely something we should do soonish.
  • Check on what the hell's happened with the world while we were out of it, but potentially alerting someone else. I'd want better defenses before we might accidentally set anything off. The FoF have been fighting humanity, and I wouldn't put it past them to have learned how to detect Fog intrusions into their networks.
  • Rewrite control systems? ...Probably shouldn't mess with them without having a better idea of how they work or what's going on in general.
[] Login to the Tactical Network and attempt to contact other vessels. It would be helpful to talk to someone, anyone.

This option... well. Doing this, we could find out what sort of fallout or actions we had on the Fog as a whole. ...And we'd end up alerting everybody that we're back up and running, considering other ships know who's accessing the Network, especially their own data. Not good. Though... if we don't have Yamato or I-401 set as our flagship, we shouldn't even have access to the JTN at all.

@TheBleachDoctor do we have either of them set or is being able to access the JTN without them part of the AU-ness? And is Iona aware at this point of her nature of being the JTN, considering this quest appears to be taking place a good deal of time after canon? 'Cause Iona's our ally and that could seriously affect our ability to access the network, since she might be able to hide our activity from everybody else.

Finally...

Yeaaaaaah. Thanatonium decay is weird. Supposed to be pure gravitons which shouldn't do anything too harmful, but I wouldn't put it past maybe generating some weird β+- or Hawking radiation for some reason (mainly plot, haha).

Plus, knowing more about our new friend and if she's doing okay is important. Positive relationship points! Possible character discoveries and development!

So I'll jump on the bandwagon and vote...

Habbakuk subverted Yamato's authority. You ate Habbakuk. So permissions-wise the JTN is probably FUBAR but yes you've got access.

Hm, I'm not sure which vote won. I've never seen the players so divided before! :V

I see another vote is truly needed here.
