Is´t there a philosphical concept built around that?

Enlightened self interest.

I've heard it called selfish altruism as well.

Which is kind of true of humans as social animals and how we're wired to work.

This isn't the place to drop into pop philosophy but basically, Ayn Rand got the point in every edgy teenagers life where they realize that even altruistic actions are taken for selfish reasons (being selfless feels good to most well socialized people) and then, rather than appreciating that this revelation, true as it may be, is not particularly useful to fixate upon, decided to build a secular religion out of it.

No they shouldn't have because that's goofy as shit. The characters staring on in sadness and respect for his sacrifice is enough. They're kneeling like he was a friggin king.

Yeah, I got to admit it's pretty silly to have them all just start kneeling. Like I get wanting to pay respect but I feel the funeral scene was good enough.

Well duh, Tony Stark is demonstrably king of the MCU and it will never leave him alone even after his death :V

But seriously though I just had to laugh when Carol did it - you don't know him, you only just showed up! Why are you acting as devastated as his closest companions of several years?

I can't help but think that that T'Challa triggered it by misinterpreting Clint's physical/mental exhaustion as a sign of respect.

Like the order is literally Clint collapses, T'Challa looks back at him then decides to kneel and then the next half a dozen kneelers are all confused aliens joining in.

T'Challa, seeing a nearby corpse: "That guy has a good idea. Now is a perfect time for a nap."

To be fair, she did just see him sacrifice himself to defeat Thanos and save everyone. Sure, even if you've known him for a few minutes, that's worthy of respect.

Oh, and she was the one who rescued him from space at the beginning, so probably they talked some, had to get life support working and all. It's not like she doesn't know who he is.

That said, I'm solidly in the 'ditch it' category.

Although given Tony Stark has his Tony Stark-ness, I would not expect a conversation with him while under moderately stressful conditions to result in positive impressions of Tony Stark.
