Holy fuck, was Ayn Rand really Thanos this whole time?!
Thanos is more malthusian.

Indeed, Ayn Rand would consider him evil for wanting to do something for the benefit of the universe as a whole rather than himself. For him to be Ayn Rand level he'd have to be motivated entirely by, and admit to, doing stuff purely because he wants to rather than out of a misguided sense of twisted altruism.

AKA, Thanos isn't selfish asshole enough to be Ayn Rand.

Let's see if I can find those quotes where she talked about the "beautiful soul" of a child kidnapper/murderer...

I wonder if Rand 's head would explode if she ever considered the fact that someone would want to selfishly persue selflessness.

Yes, I remember there being a bit in Atlas Shrugged where the MC is doing something for her love interest and he thinks she is doing something that is (gasps) altruistic. He is incredibly offended by that.

Thanos wants people to see him as selflessly virtuous. Rand found the idea of being selflessly virtuous disgusting to the point of making her own characters be openly insulted by it.

I think we can all agree that Ayn Rand was a hot mess.

Who were they looking to convince? Thanos?

Everyone was in agreement the man and his plan were mad and beyond reason at this point.

And yet Infinity War made a point of having Gamora debate Thanos about his plan, implied to be "yet again". It was for the benefit of the audience, like what I suggested the possible "your plan doesn't even work beyond the horrific methods" rebuttal would be.

In other words, I can believe there is a way to write in an excuse for a character onscreen to mention how Thanos's plan doesn't work, whether to Thanos or to someone else in passing (and the other person going "yeah, he's nuts as we all know"). And given some of the scenes that were put into Infinity War and Endgame, I'm also sure such a scene will be just as consequential, and so not have a reason to be cut (as opposed to those other scenes which made it into the movie).

As I recall that was done so that you would know what the plan was. That the plan is fuckin' monstrous was kind of taken as a given.

Hell, Gamora during that whole debate seems less actively arguing with Thanos then simply repeating to him that this is evil bullshit, because clearly, she realized years ago that you can't logic Thanos out of this one, because logic isn't involved.

Disney: "fuck fuck fuck it's not enough that we make all the money in the universe and there's another mcu movie coming out in like a fucking week we have to beat avatar or we're worthless what do we do"
Avengers Endgame: "You could not live with your own failures, and where did that bring you? Back to me."

That new post-credits scene had better be Luis narrating the entire MCU, or we riot.

I'm actually kind of hoping that these lists decide to average out the rerelease box office income and the original movie, which would actually put them significantly lower on the charts, just out of spite at the attempt to game the list. :V

Avatar got a release too.

Also Disney could not give less of a shit about who the number one movie is, because they own the entire top 5
