Eleusis part 0.1
Eleusis part 0.1
Enlightenment comes from the strangest places. You have grown listening to the tales of those chosen by His majesty and bearing the power of His will. You know of the warriors who face impossible odds and yet persevere and are revealed as servants of Him on earth exalted above all others. You know of the preachers whose voice is full of thunder and whose aura captivates crowds as they push them onwards and drive them to righteous frenzy. You know of the wise whose knowledge comes from His and partake of His wisdom. You know of those who tremble in His immortal shadow and yet bring terror to the unrighteous.

You are not them. You never aspired to be them. Perhaps once when you were a maiden you dreamt of gold and light but holiness is not an affair of desire. It is discipline and eternal watchfulness. You bear the duties of Abbess with pride but you never wished to add to them. And yet when it comes to you, you cannot refuse. For when you hear the voice of the Emperor, the only answer is to declare yourself His servant in all things great or small and praise Him for your luck.

It comes to you in the middle of the war council. You see them discuss how the world of Eleusis will be fought for. They fight among themselves. Generals of the Imperial Guard with different ideas. Mechanicus prelates more machine than mortal men and yet revering His wisdom. Astartes commanders proud of their Legions tallying their objectives. They fight among themselves. Not all the reasons are bad. A Tyranid invasion is something so dreadful and so final, no standard procedure was ever drafted to fight them, especially no standard procedures able to save the world where they occur. You are a single voice in the council, a voice among all the chatter and the noise. You defend the use of the Sisterhood, providing the advice of your experiences and weaving your forces in the great Imperial tapestry. And yet you grow angry. You grow angry with how the Crusade is managed, how ressources necessary for the defense of Mankind against the Great Enemy or the Devourer. You hate the Tau as you should but you recognize the worlds they take are salvageable. They will be conquered. They will be purged from divisive elements. The population will be reeducated. But having been under Tau control will never subject a world to the fires of Exterminatus by itself. The Lord Militant is a fool if he believes otherwise.

Your anger turns to righteous wrath for you understand. This war council is a reflection of Humanity as a whole. The Great Crusade sought to unite Man against the darkness beyond and now you see its legacy. A pack of wolves fighting themselves as the hunter grows ever near. You will not stand for it. You resolve to do the impossible, to push them all to agree. You open your mouth and…

The whole room now shines in gold. The halls of the Watch-Fortress now bear tapestries of ancient times, of the great victories of Mankind. Horus' heir, great Macharius who arrived at the galaxy's edge smiles at you from his triumphal procession. The other members of the council seem fixed in place by a higher power as you rise and let your gauntlet hands caress the golden armor of the general, remembering his works and the forces he had under his command. Fingers must close in a fist. From the many must come one force who is better than any of its individual parts. So speaks the Tactica and so speaks the commands of the Emperor.

INDEED DAUGHTER!

You turn at the voice that shakes sea and stars and you see… You see Him. You know it's Him! He looks like the icons of your worlds with long black hair and jewels upon skin as dark as yours. A gem stands in the middle of his front and you kneel before gazing too much into the fire that can burn worlds asunder.

YOU WOULD MAKE WHOLE THAT WHICH HAS BEEN TAKEN APART. IN THAT YOU ARE MY DAUGHTER NOW AND FOREVER.

I KNOW YOU ASTERIA MAHARANI. I KNOW YOU AND NAME YOU BLESSED AND BELOVED FOR YOUR SERVICE PAST, PRESENT, AND TO COME.

KNOW WHATEVER HAPPENS YOU ARE EXALTED IN MY SIGHT!

The vision ends and for a moment you would think you have dreamt. Yet when you speak, you sense power and for a moment every speaker hearkens to your command to stop. The representative from the Sons of Horus looks at you with the face of the Warmaster and his retort seems to die in his throat. There is no sound from the priests from Mars except of course the whirring of their engines. Your anger is given voice and you berate them. You berate them from their infighting and their shortsighted ways. You berate them for struggling with each other when they should be facing the true foes of Mankind. You berate them to have made this council a mockery. Now you will have order at least. You will listen to each other with respect due to fellow servants of humanity and you will appraise each decision based on what is best for Mankind and not petty grievances or thirst for glory.

And to everyone's surprise, even your own, they listen to you as you arbitrate their debates.

This is not the only miracle of the day. As they speak and weave a coherent plan which for once takes advantage of the Imperium's vast arsenal you see the tapestry of war as you never saw it before. You take to a cogitator when they mention supply problems and the Munitorum's bureaucracy and without even thinking hard you cut through the trail of bureaucracy and speed the wheels of progress. You do not realize what happened to you. Until an Inquisitor approaches you and notices your eyes are glowing golden.

You are of course immediately taken for questioning but such torments are quick. The relics of your Order confirm it, the gaze of Neferou of the Thousand Sons made it beyond a doubt. You have been touched by the Emperor and glow with the light of the Living Saint and none are more surprised than yourself for that. If you survive the campaign then your position will change but you are the first to point you could be heading to glorious martyrdom.

As a Living Saint of the Eclipse you have reached the peak of human potential but there is an Aspect of your sainthood that shines brighter than the rest. Choose 1

[] Master Bureaucrat: You are able to navigate the maze of the Imperium's institutions to your advantage like no one has ever done before.
[] Eye of the Explorer: Nothing is really foreign to you and you are able to adapt to the manifold cultures of the Imperium
[] Lord of the Void: You are able to steer ships and have an understanding of void combat
[] Voice of the Emperor: You are able to navigate the maze of Imperium's subgroups, speaking to each in its native language and weaving them in an harmonious whole.

Only a week of enhanced interrogation rite? :V

Literally one of the reasons I voted Eclipse, so yeah. Bloated Imperium needs dealing with and being a Living Saint specializing in that is all sorts of hilarious.

[X] The Gun

WS is only a hair ahead of BS, not to the degree where it's really that bad, SoB tilt shooty, and all the other named are WS higher, so someone notable to cover BS is better IMV.

Same reasoning, the other choices are slow or kinda chaff/more suited for pitched battles. I was tempted to take another Purgation squad but otherwise I agree.

Eleusis part 1
Eleusis: Part 1

Outside the windows of the ship the storm rages. You are the only one with the Navigator to gaze outside the Geller Field. For others it would be an invitation to madness. You are not sure what drives you to it for even your new eyes suffer when looking at the tempest. Impossible riotous colors making no sense at first. The sound of a thousand screams linger on your tongue and forcing your eyes you see them. They are the storm and the worlds in the storm. You see them and you do not shudder. You spy the desolations of the Lord of Blood, the swamps of blood and the temple of skulls and the cursed sanctuaries dedicated to hatred. You see each stone bent by hatred and each head claimed by violence. Many armed men and women stalk hungry jungles whose leaves are teeth. The legions of Neverborn battle each other, each an atrocity given purpose and flesh You see gracile nightmares neither male nor female dancing a saraband filled with pleasure and pain. You see a bloated monster filled with stubbornness, flowing with the pus of a thousand contagions. You see avian shapes whispering the countless secrets of vain ambition. You see the horned shape of the fifth one, the worlds of swamps where all things come to die, the mud where all life like to return. You see their worlds and their universes of pain, their servants and their symbols. You see them and do not see them. They have no fixed shape and as such you give them one. This is good. To name and describe is to master after all.

You see your lord and master of course. The light of the Astronomican, the scream of defiance birthing the legions of devas and angels and heroes. The servants of the Great Enemy call your Emperor a corpse. You feel His light burn through their hells, the shadows of his servants putting nameless terrible things to flight. Even in the riotous darkness of the Sea of Souls you feel His touch on your shoulders spurring you to greater things. It spurred you in the halls of Erioch. The Great Devourer has to be defeated if the worlds of the galaxy are to remain vibrant with life. In the shorter term, the loss of Eleusis and its shrines would deal a great blow to Imperial morale in the Crusade and purges, while useful and arguably needed are not a long-term solution. Your impassioned yet logical speech was heard, not least because the Deathwatch supported the motion by reminding everyone of the danger posed by Dagon. Then it was relatively easy to turn your mind to the logistics of the campaign by talking with Marietta Schopen. An intuition which proved right as the General has more than enough clout to let you access the network. And there, you discovered what gift the Emperor's gave you.

[Logistics Roll : 32/100 (Master Bureaucrat) : Seven Degrees of Success]

You will not blaspheme against the priests of Adeptus Terra, the great clergy of humanity. You will not impune against the Adeptus Administratum, tireless scribes worshipping He on Earth with quill and number. Yet you are not blind to their fault. The resources were there but were unused or bound to more distant, less important battlefields. Such is the might of the Imperium you have only to correct some routine errors in the logistics to free thousands of men for your own expeditions. Slowly turn the wheel of bureaucracy but when they turn they crush any upstarts under their weight. Of course, it helps that, even in a full-fledged Crusade, Imperial commanders are given much leeway to prosecute their wars. Nobody wants a repeat of the great betrayal. As such they are free to flock to your banner, especially when your newfound skills show. You than the Emperor for the blessing bestowed upon you for the bureaucracy of the Imperium is a difficult language. Even centuries of habit do not explain your ease with it. Yet it shows. The Munitorum shipments are more than enough and you marvel at the spectacle in the holds.

Indeed what a spectacle indeed. You are accustomed to the pageantry of Imperial regiments drawn from a thousand worlds. It does not surprise you to see the Vostroyans in their rich clothes, firstborn of a stalwart world with their handcrafted rifles, break bread with the solemn soldiers of Krieg always unseen behind their gas masks. The Machabeans Janissaries singing the praises of Saint Drusus and eager to crusade for the Master of Mankind pray with the conceited Scintillians whose aristocratic origins ensure they are always best equipped. Grim laughing brutes of Catachan with the red scarf of valor armwrestles the soldiers of proud Cthonia. Sons and daughters of frozen Valhalla greet the masked soldiers of Chemos. Many more are present even if only as elite squads chosen because they survived previous engagements with Dagon. Veterans of actions against the Tyranids are rare even among the Astartes. Human recruits knowing how to react when pressed are important. All are well-fed and adorned with faultless equipment. Morale is sky-high, which when speaking about men and women ready to be unleashed against the Great Devourer is strange indeed. Not all is your doing obviously but the flood of preachers and believers who accompany your Sisters are a boon. Learning of an expedition to a Shrine World, several pilgrims and cults dedicated to the Emperor as warrior boarded transport ships by themselves and placed themselves to the disposition of the Crusade.

They are not alone and it explains the high morale. Outside stand several Battle Barges of the Legiones Astartes filled with warriors that can be spared from the struggles against the forces of Chaos. Grand Companies from the Emperor's Children, Iron's Warriors, World Eaters and Sons of Horus are ready to join the fight along with five hundred brothers of the Deathwatch. Their missions are varied and you are not privy to them all yet.

[Navigation Roll: 24/50 (The Shadow in the Warp): 2 Degree of Success]

Warning sirens draw you from your thoughts. The Navigators of the fleet joined their sight together to defeat the great storm provoked by the invaders. And miraculously they arrive to pierce the fog conjured by Dagon's relentless advance. They seize the Light of the Astronomican and the sirens signal the moment where the mists of the Warp part to let place to the void of realspace. You do not wait to begin advancing to the bridge. Your helmet, connected to the primary auspex signal the situation is worse than any initially thought. Which makes your preparations in hindsight completely appropriate rather than overwhelming. You gaze through an observation port and you see them: Nightmares of flesh and sinews you cannot characterize. Great tentacled fishes swimming in a sea which is not a sea. Leviathan whose hunger is felt even there. A beast greater than the other standing in a flood of monsters, some obviously ready to discharge their broods of warrior beasts.

[Void War: Establishing a beachead
Imperial: 18/70 (Best Man in Best Place+ Emperor's Children Admiral)
Tyranids: 99/80 (Creatures of the Void)
Enemy Critical Failure: Children of the Emperor, Death to His foes!)

Yet the admirals of the Fleet are no so easily frightened. When you arrive on the bridge, captains are already laboring to get the fleet into position. The many vessels quickly turn and present their broadsides to the foe while the Astartes laugh and prepare themselves to turn the Tyranids against themselves. Despite their capacity of adaptation it seems the Devourer cannot really proceed Astartes tactics who seem foolhardy in the extreme. While the guns of the Navy strike at the shell of the living ships the Battle Barges accelerate and laungh themselves at the great monster. Soon you see torpedoes strike and you need no psychic sense to feel they transport companies of Astartes in the entrails of the very beast. There if the Emperor smiles on them, they will be able to cut their way through chainsword and bolter and slay the ship from the inside. A risky tactics but one perfectly adapted to the Angels of Death. Yet the rest of the fleet move towards the planet. You see explosions from space as armies clash on the surface of this great forested world. They will be joined by others very soon.

***
Eleusis' Surface
[Insertion Roll: 24/45 (Warzone): Two Degrees of Success]

The Emperor continues to smile on you. The pilots of the Valkyries did the impossible and transported you across a warzone where the greatest concentration of psychic interference was located. Said pilots are no mere soldiers but guardians of the Inquistion whose altered minds are able to whitstand the constant screeching in your head. According to primary notes, this sound is the manifestation of the Hive-Mind on this planet. For this your sisters trek through the forest, their armored steps breaking branches and their lips whispering prayers. No alien witchery will ever troubles you, you swear it. The bikes of your Righteous Lance scout ahead along with the Deathwatch kill-team. A lesser mind would be worried by the presence of Neferou whose consultation of the Tarot warned to intervene here. You are merely proud to fight with such renowned warriors. Even the son of Alpharius who took the name of his long dead gene-sire holds impeccable service record across the Watch

[Scouting Roll: 92/60 (The Teachings of Alpharius): 3 Degree of Failure
Psychic Prognostication: 35/40 (Rubrica Corvidae-Shadow in the Warp
Foreboding]

The only sign of a problem you have comes from Neferou who pauses a moment in his relentless walk. You see him brandish his staff of office adorned with the symbol of the Aquila and even at a distance you realize he's shuddering, as if reeling from an unseen blow. The vox opens with demands your squads perform auspex sweeps. You are not that surprised to see the enemy signs on the machine suddenly spark to life. The vanguard organisms of the Great Devourer are masters of stealth. You have only seconds to order most of your squads to form up and form a gunline. Now you hear them, broods of clawed beasts with elongated arms. Genestealers in their misshapen glory, moving from the place where they waited to ambush you before you could saturate the air in blood and fire. You signal Erzebeth and her bikers. The Palatine sings a song of mourning for the Emperor's Hawk as she spurred her mechanical mount.

[Righteous Lance Charge:14/75 (Palatine+Righteous Charge): Seven Degrees of Success
Vanguard Reaction: 37/55: (Rending Claws-Offensive Creatures): One Degree of Success
Shaken and Splintered!]

Many Tyranids organisms share a common weakness. They are dreadful foes on the offensive but on the defensive, their might is cut down by the very adaptation that makes them so terrible to all living things. Erzebeth and her squad place lances in position like the knights of old earth. They are followed by some of the Repentias on bikes whose wheels are adorned with blades and scythes like the charioteers of old Gyptis and simple bikers. They clash with the xenos broods and their charge make limbs and alien fly in the air before falling to the ground in a shower of broken bones. Some of the creatures manage to jump on their paws, clawing their way up and tossing your Sisters down from their mounts but chainsword and power axes continue to hew them from back to front. Yet you see silhouettes readin themselves in the shadow, thin and spindly all in claws. You howl a warning yet…

[Royne Assault: 19/70 (Lessons of Angron): Five Degrees of Success
Lictor Reaction: 39/70 (Killing Machine): Three Degrees of Success
Duel]

Royne bearing on his pauldron the world between jaws, starts his jetpack and jumps into the fray. He strikes one of the Lictors with his armored shoulders before drawing his power axe deep into the tentacled maw while his plasma pistol spits a miniature sun expelling half an inhuman torso from another beast. The third one yet jumps on him, raking the black power plate with rending claws. The son of Angron falls with his foe and they wrestle on the ground, in the melee. You see the son of Alpharius shoulder his sniper rifle and part of you wants to berate him. In such a melee the chances of friendly fire are too important. Yet as if he guesses your thoughts, you see him nod his head while your vox crackles with the words of the Litany of Firing. Not only from him. Achilles bearing the heraldry of the Iron's Warriors points his heavy bolter with the ease of habit.

[Alpharius Sniping: 37/50 (Lessons of Alpharius-Active melee): One Degree of Success
The Wounded Beast
Achilles Firing: 32/60 (Lessons of Perturabo-Active Melee): Two Degrees of Success
Thinning the Swarm: ]

The head of the Lictor explodes like a ripe fruit while with a skill you never saw even among your elite Retributors Achilles's salvoes strike only at your foes and leave few to be torn apart by eviscerators and power weapons. You soon hear an answer on the vox from Erzebeth.

"Abess. The Righteous Lance sustained ten casualties including two fatalities among the Repentia." Not bad and you are confident when you order the bikers to continue their scouting while being wary for other ambushes. None come and soon you can see the enemy position with your own eyes. It surprises you and disgusts you in equal measure. In the middle of the forest you see a needle of living flesh, brainy tissue beating at the rhythm of some unseen heart. Even you feel the claws of this thing raking upon your mind. It is surrounded by psychic creatures of the Zoanthrope breed floating in the air surrounded by psychic might. A swarm of lesser creatures is there but the bulk of the defense is provided by monstrous beasts. Carnifexes, Warriors Broods and the dreaded Hive Guard with their cannons. At the center of this, fused with the needle of psychic potential is a titanic creature lovingly nested in neural muscle. You recognize it as a Dominatrix, fell commander of the Hive-Mind forces. You gaze upon Neferou and you understand each other. You are not sure to have the forces needed for this engagement. Perhaps the victory in the void is the occasion to launch the wrath of the Emperor on them without engaging? Or perhaps there are other solutions.

What will you do?

[] Ask for orbital bombardment of the entire zone. Withdraw to a more secure position to let the fleet take care of this problem.
[] Attack the swarm to hopefully give Neferou and his kill-team time enough to plant explosives on the spire and vainquish the Dominatrix
[] Draw in the well of golden potential that lies in you. A dangerous bet but who can empower your forces enough to do the trick
[] Call off reinforcements from the Astartes in orbit.

Psychic Tyranid Structure: Unknown Use: Perhaps Giant Synapse Node?
Protected by Zoanthropes, Maleceptors, Warriors, Carnifexes and Hive Guards
Lesser Creatures presence: Tervigons broods and ground Gaunts
Target Level Alpha: Bio-Titan Dominatrix

i am sure everyone else can look after them self. and SM will do as a SM does.
still us distracting the swarm while the elite kill try to kill the biggest thing here sounds right up our ally.

also nice to see this back, been a while.

I wouldn't trust in bombardement here, the Psy-Titan can propably create theatre-shields at need.
