Artifact: A Magic Item Roleplay [Interest Check]

Coin casting judgement, crown of senescence, anti-undead morningstar, scythe of duty, empty sheathe, pocketwatch of oblivion, a ragged old gambeson..

Yeah. I think I'll be going for the Headsman's Blade.

Ah, I see. So you can be anarchism lyre, and I can be classical liberalism gun.

I see, nice. Keeping that in mind, would an arquebus be acceptable? Or would a hand cannon be more appropriate? And if you'd rather I not use gunpowder at all, I'm totally willing to be a halberd or something.

Either is fine, the Old Empire dipped its toes into many types of weapons technologies, and so long as your Artifact is portable it's good to go.

My rough sheet idea:

Sacred Lyre of the 4 Winds
Item: Lyre

Assumed Names: Strings of Rebellion, The Traveler's Companion, Muse of Freedom

Domains:
  • Mind: 4
  • Life: 4
  • Force: 2
Goal:
  1. Find a suitable wielder, one who desires Freedom.
  2. Gather allies, those who wish to fight for their Freedom.
  3. Create an Army to fight against the Tyrants.
  4. Cast down the Tyrants from this land.
  5. Spread the Rebellion and defeat all Tyrants. Everyone will know true Freedom.
Connections:

Destructions: A Song of Goodbye
  1. Rediscover the lost First Ballad of Freedom that was scattered to the 4 winds.
  2. Abandon all duties and responsibilities, become one free from others and who does not impede upon someone else's freedom.
  3. Climb, unassisted, to the peak of the tallest mountain in the world.
  4. Play the First Ballad of Freedom perfectly until the Lyre's strings break, if at any point a mistake is done then the strings will repair themselves.
Just to check @Old Guard at the levels I've put into my domains what would I be capable of? Roughly of course.

At Mind and Life 4 you'll be able to utilize pretty much everything but the very top of those Domain powers. Resurrection of small group of people who died in mundane fashion, controlling the thoughts of large crowds and so on. But your Wielder won't be bending entire cities to their will, nor creating new intelligence races.

With Forces 2 you are at the lower to mid level of the spectrum, most master sorcerers or arch wizards cap out at 3 points in any given Domain, so you'd be just below them in ability. Fireballs, lightning beams, noise dampening and so on are all within your grasp.

Artifact approved.

This is a really interesting premise for a RP, kudos to you. I've just got a few questions @Old Guard.
1) Does Death also include soul manipulation other than destruction? For example, using souls as a power source.
2) How does Control work exactly? The stat is mentioned in the OP once, but never again.

Yes, soul manipulation, soul storage, and utilizing souls as a power source all fall under Death.

Every Artifact starts with 10 Control, Wielders start with 0. Every point of power you transfer to your Wielder lowers your Control and raises theirs an equal amount. Once a Wielder hits 6 Control they learn how to destroy you, and of course it becomes more difficult for you to control their actions.

Item: A simple-looking wand made of an unknown dark wood, that alights in rune-like inscriptions when magic is cast through it. These inscriptions never look the same twice, yet seem to appear in patterns that hint at deeper secrets.

Domains:
- Prime 5
- Mind 1
- Spirit 4

Goals:
- Find a wielder who has the potential to become a powerful magic-user, and lend them strength.
- Entice the wielder into studying the deeper mysteries of magic, trying to identify its ultimate source.
- Encourage the wielder to build up resources to gain greater and greater access to magic in pursuit of its mysteries.
- Have the wielder gain direct access to the source of magic via a powerful and expensive ritual with the wand as a central focus.
- Corrupt magic at its source to cause a cataclysm.

History and Connections:
- WIP

How to be destroyed:
- Bring the wand to the greatest shrine of a God of Cleansing Flame (hey, if the only one of those was destroyed in the Old Empire's fall, more fun to the Keywand)
- Ignite the shrine with a fragment of that God's divine essence
- Place the wand within the heart of the burning flame
- Keep the fire lit until the last of the wand's stored magic is consumed in cleansing flame

Names:
- Keywand of the Source Magic (True Name)
- The Blackwand (Assumed Name)
- The Runestick (Assumed Name)
- The Dwarfstaff (Assumed Name)

---

My Idea. Who doesn't love an ancient wand that boosts the magic of its wielder while hinting at greater secrets and power?

Ruin's road, through lowlands grim and wild,
winds beneath a sky of ash and trials.
The greens of leaves remembered from your youth,

I saw the shades that line the way to desolation's ghetto.
They said look back on the trail that you have sown.
I saw the ghosts on ruins road.

Item: Pendant

Name: Gem of the Dynasty

My name was once whispered reverently by the people of the Imperial Court, the shine of my lustre had people in awe and the strength of my conviction was shared and tempered by the neck I was created to adore. Florentina Adventia, first princess of the Empire, General of the Undying Legion, steward of the Imperial Gates – Victor on the fields of Flansil, Triumphant on the campaigns of Woe and true heir to the Imperial Throne – a worthy woman born to a most unworthy of fathers. We were things of ascension, of rightful advancement – created for a single purpose: to slay the gods that would impede the rule of our creators. When did we turn from a torch leading out of darkness into the sparks that would lit the pyre of the grandest designs ever known to these lands?

Assumed Names: Mournful Ruby

I was torn from my rightful place in the waning days of the Empire, as the only person destined to wield me was locked into the tomb of her forebearers because the mad fool had decided that he would not broker destroying the gods – and instead, attempted becoming one, ascending to heaven on eagle wings as all below him burned to ashes. I was destined to follow the princess in those last hours, but when calamity struck the creature carrying me was waylaid and killed, dropping as the floor cracked, the walls heaved, and floor turned into ceiling and vice versa. Struggling courtiers barely surviving at first, then creatures who came to feed on them, finally water and gravity – as the centuries passed, I was carried further and further away from where I ought to be, washed away with melting snow, worked into nests and found by ignorant peasants and barbarians. Few dared to touch me, even fewer to put me on. For I mourned what could have been, imagined what should have been and thought of how to put it right…

Domains:

Mind [5]
– I was made to be worn by a commander, a general and royal – her sheer presence ought to demand utmost attention and obedience and where the natural order couldn't hold without some help, I could force the most stubborn to bow, make the plebs see the peerless beauty of my wielder no matter the time she had for preparations and communicate her thoughts to the legions of soldiers and servants under her command.

Death [4] – Humans are fallible, fragile creatures – some shine brighter than others, bust most hardly look further than their own needs, their own interests and their own ambitions. Death solves many of their failings, a tight control or the fear of a final death controls others. Whose who won't be charmed, those who won't obey – could always find redemption in a final service to the Empire.

Matter [1] – Puppets can be seen as the plaything of children – or of aristocrats. Undead are often intelligent, unappealing to the human senses and hardly refined enough for court. But there are ways to solve such issues, to encase undying soldiers in steel and servants who deserve another chance at life or punishment in porcelain. There are many ways in which such minor trifles might be handled with a deft touch and imagination.

Goal:

1. Find a wielder able to mesh into the local petty kingdoms power structure.
2. Use a Wielder to gather armed and wide-reaching forces.
3. Discover the local of the former Imperial Capital.
4. Delve into the Imperial Tomb, defeat its guardians and find the Princess.
5. Revive my true Wielder. Revive the Empire.

Connections:

Destruction:

  1. Find the Ruins of the Imperial Pantheon
  2. Collect the blood of someone sharing the Imperial Bloodline
  3. Recover the Ritual Dagger of the Imperial Pontifex from the ruins of the Pantheon
  4. Coat the dagger in the blood and pierce the Gem - before burning it on the remnants of the Ash Altar

Item: A spherical astrolabe, with silvery bands rotating freely around a brass-like metal sphere, detailing the alignments of entities and forces beyond mortal ken. When exercising it's most powerful abilities, the brass metal sphere retracts to reveal a pitch black sphere, speckled with shining dots that resemble stars.

Domains:
- Space 5
- Prime 2
- Mind 3

Goals:
- Find a wielder who is willing to traverse the ends of this earth in search of their desires.
- Guide them towards the locations and or wielders of other Artifacts
- Make contact with said Artifacts and their Wielders, and learn the Artifact's True Name.
- Once at least 10 True Names are gathered, travel to the heart of the Ruins of the Old Empire, at the place where the very first Artifact was created.
- Perform a ritual that reveals the True Names, Locations, and Goals of all surviving Artifacts.

History and Connections:
- Long ago, in the Old Empire, the works of Artifice flourished. So many great, wondrous, and terrifying works were made year by year, decade by decade. Yet the Old Empire was aware of the problem posed by such potent works. And so it was that the creator of the first Artifact, the one who established the means by which all other Artifacts could be forged, created their last, and arguably greatest, work. An artifact that tracked and recorded all other artifacts, so that their names and goals were known, and their locations revealed so they may be tracked, and controlled. Yet, the very day that this artifact was completed, the first of the many disasters which would end the Old Empire fell. And so it was that this Artifact was lost, it's purpose incomplete. A purpose that the Archivist of Artifice would see rectified.

How to be destroyed:
- Find the highest point on this Earth.
- Call upon all Gods of Wind and earn their favor
- Travel to highest point that the Gods can take you.
- Allow both wielder and Artifact to drop all the way back down to Earth.

The Mantle of Eternity
The Mantle of Eternity is a fine golden mantle of unmatched beauty, threaded with a supernaturally durable golden thread, protecting it's Foolish Wearer from harm as it whispers into the Fool's mind. Originally created by the Empire as a way to ensure their Empire endured for Eternity, it's last wearer failed in its task at a crucial moment, instead casting the Mantle aside and taking his own life rather than betray those he loved. As the Empire crumbled around it, the Mantle passed through the ages, looking for the correct Fool with the correct humors to complete its goals and raise an Empire that would stand for Eternity. As the Mantle gains greater hold over the Fool, it grants greater and greater abilities, be it the strength of a hundred men as the Mantle wraps it's golden threads over their arms, infusing them with its strength, or perhaps eternal youth so they may bask in love and adoration forever. Those that are Betrayed by the Fool have their jortal coils shucked off,, before being brought back to undeath to serve the Mantle for as long as it is worn, absorbing their life force to enhance it and it's wearer's abilities further and building a Kingdom of the Betrayed.

Item: A Cameo Brooch

Name: Regalia Crest

The Old Empire was not always an empire. Once upon a time, it was a Republic, where all men and women were born equal, spirits walked as fellow citizens among mortals, and the law was applied equally to rich and poor alike. When the first Emperors took over, the dream of equality died as they appointed friends and allies to important offices, and banished lower class-citizens from positions of authority.

But not all had given up. Some magic users, who still believed in the virtue of representation, crafted Regalia Crests to empower the powerless. Those whom they bonded with were blessed with the wit of a diplomat, the mind of a legislator, the strength of a general, and finally, a most elegant outfit that increased their charisma. By gathering allies to themselves, the Regalia Crest wielders -which seemed to consist of a disproportionate number of young girls- brought together people from all across the political spectrum. The time was right, to return the power to the people, and remake the Empire into the Republic it was meant to be!

But before the Regalia Crests could be put to use, the empire fell for good, and the flame of democracy guttered out in silence. The Regalia Crests were lost to time, their power waning as revolutionary zeal died out. Eventually, only one remained. Only one chance remains for the people of this land to rediscover their democratic heritage. But just like a single vote can turn the tide of an election, one more shot can spark the flame of democracy once more.

No veneration without representation!

For your destruction however, generally being seperated from potential Wielding and being geographically isolated aren't issues for Artifacts as they basically live forever and can easily spend a few centuries sitting in a dusty dungeon waiting for someone to pass by. Is there a timefram in which the Artifact must be picked up before it is destroyed or something like that?

Scrystriker
Item: A self-updating map of all the territories of the Old Empire and the surrounding lands. The back of the map displays a more detailed map of the area that the map is currently in, including the locations of people in the area. Using specific words of power, the wielder of the map may command it to strike at an indicated location with awesome force.

Domains:
- Space 5
- Force 5

Goals:
This artifact was created with a singular purpose: to destroy one of the many foes of the Old Empire. Unfortunately for the map, the foe was destroyed by the Old Empire before it was complete. Though it saw use as a mighty weapon against the other foes of the Old Empire, it has always felt the need to accomplish its original purpose.
1. Find a wielder suitable to found a nation.
2. Encourage the wielder to recreate the fallen nation that was an enemy of the Old Empire.
3. Assist in the development and defense of the nation; watch it grow and prosper, preferably developing it in such a way that it closely resembles the original version.
4. Replace the wielder with one hostile to the new nation.
5. Destroy the nation with overwhelming firepower.

Destruction:
1. Find the original command words used to create Scrystriker.
2. Additionally, ink with the same magical properties as the ink originally used to create Scrystriker must be obtained.
3. Decipher and translate the command words to find their original meaning.
4. Using the ink and deciphered command words, command Scrystriker to strike itself with maximum power.

Oh no. An interesting RP.

..Well, there shouldn't be any harm in making a sheet.

Instrument angle seems taken so I'll discard the hurdy gurdy. Comedy relief seems to be absent though.. Can all artifacts speak with their wielder or do they need at least 1 Mind? What sort of domains fall into Justice? Maybe an Advocate, something that argues against every..

...

Has nobody chosen the sword?

Nope, no swords yet. It's free real estate.

Having second thoughts about the Headsman's Blade, but only because I've been thinking about themes in the range of 'This Too Shall Pass'. Oh well. Within the boundaries of a domain, can we lock off certain applications to boost others? Say, if we chose Death - 3, no raising of dead in exchange for better 'killing' power?

Or if we Chose Mind - 1 / 2, nothing about effecting minds beyond the wielder's in exchange for stronger mental defenses? But yeah, any fitting domain for Justice?

Portents of Ill Omens

"I am the King and Emperor and Lover of Delights!"

The living and the dead at his command,
Were coupled, face to face, and hand to hand,
Till, chok'd with stench, in loath'd embraces tied,
The ling'ring wretches pin'd away and died
"Once you ruled over nations; now you are conquered by worms."
And so the King with his conquests of Death and Life sought new Domains,
To put under his might, He challenged the Gods,
Created Weapons to slay them, dominate and denigrate
And yet he fell, left with three words
"I will return."

Item: A sword piece of torn parchment

Name: Shen Gong Wu Zerrissen (I know it's a germanic setting and I don't mind changing the name if needs be but I like the reference)

A torn parchment, twisted and marred forgotten by all. Heralded from the Ancient Times when the mighty claimed lordship over All Magicks, when Gods were but partners and tradesmen who were honoured but not worshipped; It was a time of wonderment and stability yet it was built upon the same foundation of sands all Empires prior and all kingdoms future would be built upon. The Old Empire was mortal, for even the petty Immortals existed not outside time. They experienced reality as would mortals, bound by causality and the needless tides of fate that sought to erode the Empire bit by bit until even the mightiest edifice known to man would crumble.

It was the duty of the Rulers of the Empire to fight against the entropy, to rebuild the walls and fight off the tides and do what was necessary to ensure the Empire stood. And so it did, ages passed and many rulers maintained Man's edifice, some through force and others through kindness. The Empire underwent superficial changes, of course, taking on veneers of democracy or tyranny as the bounds of fate allowed but the Empire was maintained with varying degrees of effort to varying levels of success until the hubris of man went too far.

The of Shen Gong Wu tales the tale of what happened, yet the full story has long been lost, for while the sentience within the artefact may know it dare not speak it and even the ancient magicks gone into its make could not resist the caustic images burnt upon it.

Assumed Names: The Barkowitz Blasphemy

I remember but fragments of my birth. Of she, who was not Sir Cpt Cato Sicario Barkowitz who discovered me, who crafted me and gave me terrible, blessed life. The scribe whose gaze was directed to the heart of the conflagration of fools that ended the empire, it was her who chronicled down the terrible tale, who wrote the text with a quill pen from a winged feather of that beast long since forgotten. It was her, who in her free hand, wielded that silver knife for which she utilised for several operations: to cut the parchment, keep my pages firm as my brother's ink made knowledge in my mind, erased frequent errors carving out my skin and soul and sharpened my brother himself.

The blade still haunts me, as I suspect it does my brother.

I am inundated with the cursed thoughts that haunted my mother, who crafted me in unnatural hours and died upon the completion of her work. The nameless scribe's bones have rotten yet her blade remains, and though the tale she illustrated upon me has been hidden away to keep hidden the terror, one illustration remains. The most terrible of all and the one I preserved for it is my existence even as I have shed so much of myself.

The Calamity that ended the Empire will return, so sayeth the Barkowitz Blasphemy. And I will destroy a thousand hosts and a thousand heroes to ensure what happened before will not happen again.

Domains:

Space [3]
– In that final battle that the nameless scribe chronicled, reality had shattered and the grand illusion of space-time had been shattered but momentarily. What I saw when I gazed upon the unmoored reality, the broken laughter of distorted beings that never were, the creeping corruption and madness that elicited emotions that no sane human could ever feel? That is the domain of Prime. But it was the dismantling of the illusion of reality, the art of manipulating space that I learnt. That is the power I have to learnt to wield through my Champion.

Life [4] – I am a cruel, monstrous being. I look upon the world as I see beauty, the love and pain and hardship and hate of people who live an die and grow old or die young. I am a monstrous being who looks upon the beautiful star of a soul and sees it as fuel, as a vessel to be used harshly and without mercy for my own purposes until it is snuffed out so cruelly by my selfish actions. I am a monstrous being, and to my host it may not matter but I love people. And though I may burn their lives so readily, I will never waste them. For life is precious and must bee preserved. This is the gift I offer my Champion.

Prime [3] – Within my pages, lost since lost, contain maddening scenes of twisted reality and warped minds. That may which drive insane those unready to bear such horrific sights. I contain great secrets and these are secrets that must never be told. What I saw there in that final battle, when the Mad Emperor shirked his duty to fight entropy by seeking to claim dominion over Time, that is a twisted vileness that I shall never tell. This is the curse I bear, the curse I force upon my Champion.

Goal:

1. Find a wielder, it matters not who, for this is a cause grander than any other
2. Use wielder to end the lineage of the Imperial Bloodline that stores the Madness of the Last Emperor
3. Anoint the Parchment with the blood of the previously mentioned descendant
4. Locate the Half-Living Body of the Warrior God that fought the Emperor
5. Kill the God before it can resurrect

Connections:

Connection 1: Mild Rivalry with Scrystriker
A few decades prior to the start of the game, two powerful pieces of parchment , the Portent of Ill Omens and Scrystriker, fell into the hands of one individual. While that individual would go on to cause great havoc with two seemingly innocuous items (the accidental destruction of the city of Köche and the creation of the blasted wasteland around said city, for example), it is ultimately the interaction between two pieces of parchment that would have a greater effect on the future of the world.

The Portent of Ill Omens has a simple goal: the slaying of the Corrupted Godbeast that the Shen Gong Wu Zerrissen prophesised would bring a new Calamity. It was an arduous task, and so the attempts were made to recruit the Scrystriker to the Portent's cause. Numerous attempts were made to sway Scrystriker. They all failed. Repeatedly. Scrystriker was, if nothing else, quite a stubborn piece of parchment. It wished solely for one thing: the complete destruction of its original foe. Damnatio memoriae.

No matter what one piece of parchment said, the other piece of parchment would not change its stance. Still they remained for a few months content to share the same host, as neither had yet found leads on each other's goals and there was a kinship unacknowledged by either. Alas, such idyllic time could hardly last forever though there much entertainment found in the alteration of Scrystriker's regular smites with the maddened power of the Blasphemy. Their shared host expired as a result of one parchment failing to heed the warning of the other, and delusions that they could work together soon melted away like the fortified garrison towns under the blistering heat of Scrystriker's attacks.

And so began the rivalry between two extremely spiteful pieces of parchment, with the Portent of Ill Omens often twisting the life force of Scrystriker's hosts to deleterious effects Scrystriker simply murdered the champions of their rival with excessive firepower. Again and again these retaliations would continue.

Destruction:
  1. Find the rest of the pages of the artefact
  2. Find the Silver Dagger used by the scribe during the Artefact's creation
  3. Draw a ritual circle around the artefact using the ground bones of any of the Imperial descendants
  4. Read the completed tome within the circle then stab it with the dagger

Ah, yes. I think that the conceit that I'm going for is that once it becomes "bonded" with a wielder, it's much more dependent on them than other Artifacts. If the ideas that it inspires are forgotten or abandoned by the people, then the Regalia Crest loses its power and dies, because it runs off of their belief in democratic ideals. Does that make more sense?

What about making a monster? Like I expect at least one instance of having to spawn some big beastie to rampage around at some point, I'd assume that Life 4 would cover that if the monster isn't all that smart and/or infertile.

What specific abilities and magic Artifacts grant their Wielder are completely up to them. If you want to give your Wielder a Mind 2 power that only strengthens their mental defenses that perfectly acceptable. This is handy because you can say, give a Wielder the ability to cover themselves in magical flames with Forces, but not the ability to be fireproof, leading to a charred husk.

The Calamity that ended the Empire will return, so sayeth the Barkowitz Blasphemy. And I will destroy a thousand hosts and a thousand heroes to ensure what happened before will not happen again.

Goal:

Have some ideas. Need to coordinate for certain

So I already have some edits I need to do to the background (on my phone now so can't) but I'm posting this so people who want to coordinate shared backstories with my can do so. Honestly I expect the end fluff for this artefact to be hella different to what it is now.

Artifact approved.

Starting Wielder pool will be posted, and assigned shortly.

What about making a monster? Like I expect at least one instance of having to spawn some big beastie to rampage around at some point, I'd assume that Life 4 would cover that if the monster isn't all that smart and/or infertile.

Yup, Life 4 can get you a big beasty, probably not intelligent, and likely not a viable species.

Precisely. But I realize that this might be kind of a cop out, so if you need me to rework it, then I'd be happy to do so.

If you can tie that to some kind of physical action or event then I think its fine. For example, the destruction of the High Senators symbol of Office, or the destruction of the Republican Document that proceeded the Old Empire.

Oh, could there be some sort of enchanted torch that has to be extinguished? After killing the wielder and eroding faith in democracy?

The Channelstaff of The Source Magic
I am knowledge and wonder given form and shape.

I am meant to channel the blood and soul of a sacrified God.

My purpose was to make mortalkind's power cause the cosmos to tremble and shake.

Ambition and hope twist and turn in endless whirlwinds around me.

Destruction and dispair were wrought by the one called friend and other half.

Lessons learned and wills emboldened, wand-child's mind shall be made to see wisdom and mortalkind will finally truly see.

<•}[|]{•>

Item: The Channelstaff of The Source Magic
A intricate staff covered in arcane runes and resonating gems.

Assumed names:
Mage's rod
Old Nelro's Walking stick
The Manaflow
The Heretic's Cane
The Archstaff
Whispering Septer

<•}[|]{•>

Domains:

Prime: 4
I am of the source in my core, it's power flows through me, resonating with a thrum. The core of magic is vast and strong.

Mind: 1
I was made to teach, to educate, to help mages improve themselves and those around them, I can touch their minds and let knowledge flow.

Spirit: 5
I was and am a spirit of the Source, it still whispers to me, the knowledge of my once-yet-current-kin. I can draw power and knowledge from it, from them.

<•}[|]{•>

Goals:

1. Find a wielder with a love of magic
2. Make them into a worthy mage, one to rival even the gods.
3. Find the Keywand and bring it under control to complete the first grand ritual properly.
4. Capture and Subsume the God of Magic into the wielder and humanity/their people in the grand ritual to give them a direct connection to the source of all magic.

<•}[|]{•>

Path to destruction:
1. Gain a weapon used by ten generations of witchhunters.
2. Have a decendant of that same family head to the crater made by the failed ritual.
3. Make an antimagic field.
4. Break the Channelstaff with the weapon on the annual anniversary of the failed ritual.

<•}[|]{•>

Connections

1. The Keywand was meant to be used To coordinate power/God's Blood the staff would channel to the ritual and unlock the Source. It didn't do as it was meant to, it betrayed it's purpose.

2. I, specifically my physical form, was forged by the Smith's hammer.

3. The Channelstaff's spirit is the harvested and merged souls of two beings, one was a god that taught mortalkind magic, and the other was one of the Great Wyrms.

Hale the Sun, hale the Moon, aid us in our fight
Show us the burning path with your eternal might
Your fury now mine to spread, your shadows deeper than the sea
Through broken fate and rent god-flesh, may the Eclipse carry me.

Item: Longsword

Name: Blade of the Blazing Dawn

We were one. The sword which stood elevated above all others. The ultimate weapon, to rend this world apart with our might as our wielder saw fit. They made us with arts more trying than any other, luck and skill and mountains of effort achieved an artifact of unsurpassed power. Only the chosen selected by the highest authority could even touch us, and with a wave we turned a field of foes to ash, then with another raised that ash into wraiths to serve our wielder. We were unmatched, the lone apex of all, even the gods trembled at our edge.

The great General Galadon wielded us in battle, and through his will and mind, and my absolute might, we single-handedly held the empire together through the ages. Rebellions, rival nations, judgmental gods, we carved through all. for WE were the Blade of the Eclipse, and none could match us!

Assumed Names: The Sunblade

But in time, they came to fear us! Too strong, they said we were. This weapon was too much. The general grew ambitious and jaded, decades of defending the empire while weak emperors let it rot from within, and his efforts more and more taken for granted. They feared our might, the light we shown on their weakness. The might of many artifacts was used, and the general was seperated from us, accused of sedition, and I was locked away. They saw him dead, an accedent, they did not understand exactly how much of his nigh-immortality was my touch. And so they sough a safer way to use me.

Split in two! The pain, the indignity! Eclipse became Sun and Moon, two beings with the same soul, and longing to be complete again. Curse them, how dare they rend our being like that! We were two, twin blades that ached for each other. No lover in history has longed for another the way the two of us called to each-other. They kept us apart, separate battlefields hundreds of miles apart, for weakened as we were our might was still on par with the greatest of artifacts. But we had limits, and separated in weaker hands we could not hold the empire together.

I am the Blade of the Blazing Dawn, my other half is our there somewhere. I will find her, we will be one again, and all of creation will tremble at the whisper of our name again!

Goal:

1. Find a wielder of grand ambition and great skill in warfare.
2. Seek the secrets of the empire, the thousand bits of lost lore of our own nature.
3. Locate our lost twin the Blade of the Radiant Moon, or the Moonblade to the commoners.
4. Using the acquired lost secrets, travel to the Chamber of the Black Forge, and use it to merge together with our twin and become the Blade of the Eclipse once again.
5. Establish our superiority as the greatest Artifact ever made, see to it the whole world knows it too.

Connections:

Destruction:

  1. The two blades must both be found. If they have been merged back together they must be separated.
  2. The Chamber of the Black Forge, the site where the blade was created and where it was split will need to be located.
  3. Within that chamber, the Mirror of Broken Truths will need to be brought in to warp space in such a way that the final step is even possible.
  4. The two blades must be destroyed together, warping space the tip of each blade has to plunge into the sphere at the hilt of the other, only possible via a warping of space. If both gems break at the same time the swords will not recover and will crumble into dust.

Hmm I'll take the third set of stats, like the idea of being relatively magically inept with the magic wand and grab the High-Value contract. Also for the personality Tag I'd want to add a [Lazy] to the personality, basically she wants to get the maximum wealth with minimal work and will use her good looks to charm her way forward without putting in the work.

Also might be a good idea to threadmark the artifact sheets.
