Honestly, the only game in the series I'd say that has a somewhat decent localization is AT3, and even then I can't say it's entirely good either, given the large number of goof-offs they did with stuff like the names for the wave types, ignoring the structure of the Control Names when they gave the characters their full names or messing up some terms in the dialogue and glossary.

To give some examples, AT1 has some mess ups in its glossaries, several of the Hymmnos lines were replaced with meaningless gibberish, and the Hymmnos font itself got broken in that its glyphs became small to the point of being unreadable. And Ar nosurge has in a nutshell as many translation problems as AT2 had, what with the inconsistent terms between dialogue and glossary also causing several glossary entries to be rendered inaccesible.

By the way, here's the save:

MEGA

You need to use a homebrew program called the Save Manager to import it into your Ar nosurge game, but you need to have already created a save file before you'll be allowed to import it.

I noticed that. I'm very glad some of it is voiced, but I'm having to guess at the meaning of much of the rest.

Wouldn't a Steam port also make creating patches that fix localization issues way easier too, due to the whole "this is now a PC game, and Steam has massive modding support" aspect?

It's a sure thing. The problem is if Gust/KT would be interested in porting the Surge Concerto games to PC.

I just started watching a LP of it, and I very much see what you mean. So many cases of the same word being spelled multiple different ways, and also plenty of instance of things like blatant typos and swapping the order of two words in a sentence.

In terms of how obvious it is, that actually seems worse than AT2 :o

So I've reached the end of Phase 1 of Ar nosurge, and there's something that's really confusing me. Did I miss an explanation for it, or do they give it later on?
How is Kanon alive again? They showed the rebirth of Cosal (with endlessly inconsistent name translation), but I didn't see anything get explained for how Kanoyeel is back.
Also, how were the translators so incompetent as to change Nero to Nelo (which by itself is understandable) without also changing REON to LEON :???:

The translators are supposedly ex-NISA employees, so there. I even pointed out the problem that changing Nero's name would bring together with some other things when the game was still being localized, but as you can see, it all fell on deaf ears.

About Kanon, the answers you seek are here: Ion Extend Talk Pack Vol. 3 - Encrypted Messages from the Ar nosurge Tube -

However, don't read anything beyond the tenth file, as it contains significant spoilers about the rest of Ar nosurge's story.

.....Anything else like that with story relevance that isn't covered by the youtube videos for Ciel nosurge or the PS3 English release of Ar nosurge, and which things are safe to read before finishing Ar nosurge?

And yeah, I can't imagine how confusing most of the character interactions, especially those in Genometrics, would be for people who don't know anything about Ciel nosurge. They'd be as confused as Delta at all that stuff, which isn't any fun!

The Class-Arnosurge-Proto novel: genomirai

I'd also advise reading the Ar nosurge manga, but as it hasn't been translated, it isn't practical at the moment.

For those not able to read even a little bit of it...

It's a "wanted" poster for Yuki Nei.

Spotted in a section of her memories she ruined herself. My working theory is that she's suppressing her memories of home so that she won't have a complete breakdown, but the Tenmon didn't exactly help.

The cropped-out parts of that scene just shows ruins. I guess she couldn't quite make herself forget that, on top of her own longing, her family misses her just as much. Logically speaking they probably think she's dead, I don't think her body went along, but... it's understandable.

Also, I know she's Japanese, but the child in that drawing looks no older than Casty. ...and I'm really not surprised. Yes she was thinking about college, but that's a combination of "Japan" and Nei being a genius.

...aaaand the second time around I didn't crash out of genometrics. I guess that wasn't supposed to happen. Or maybe it was.

Okay.

======

Searching for a lost girl. Her name is Nei Yuuki.

On the night of April 22nd, Nei Yuuki left her house in the 18th District of Suginohara's Residential Area. She was wearing a burgundy colored cardigan, and a checked pink skirt. Her height is 160cm, and her hair is long.

======

Hmm, I'm not sure that's all the poster says though.

Actually, that's all the poster says from what I could read from it. And cross-checking it with the Ar nosurge script files... Yep, one of the rare instances the translation was spot-on, even though its wording could be improved.

As for what that scene means...

That's what Ion herself imagines could be happening at home right now, even if that is not really the case.

Also, according to the second light novel, she was assaulted and left at the brink of death by some device controlled by Player 2, and that's when she used the Genelogic Machine to allow her soul to be taken away by the Tenmon to Ra Ciela.

So in short... Her body was left in a near-death state and if she doesn't return to her world by the time Ar nosurge ends, she will actually die in her Earth. And to make things even worse, Aya witnessed every single moment of the assault that left her sister in that state, so needless to say having to see her die would traumatize her irreparably, especially because Aya was who inadvertently allowed Player 2 to start wreaking havoc in their world.

And Ion did destroy herself all her memories of her Earth so she wouldn't come to hate the people from that universe, as she didn't want to follow the same path Nero did.

By the way, the drawing in the poster has no meaning at all: that's actually just one of the sketches ntny drew for Ion's character design, as it can be seen from checking the Surge Concerto - The Seeker artbook and comparing it to the sketches for Ion's other costumes.

That's very helpful, and I think I'll be able to work it into the story. :)

...I've more or less given up on Yuki Quest; it's got too many canon mismatches, and the overall approach was an experiment that I think failed, but I've not given up on telling the story at all. I'm just reevaluating it a bit, with some help.

Drop by IRC if you like, I'm sure I'd have a ton more questions. I also have a document full of plot notes, including an alternative timeline for Ar Ciel. :p

I can definitely understand why, but it's still a shame.

I never really got to participate in the experiment, because well, didn't know crap about Ciel nosurge yet, so I was quite confused.

The format of Yuki Quest would probably work much better on anonkun than on SV though. It would just require that every update play out like that one time that posters got to have a live conversation with her :V

A more traditional quest in the setting could definitely be fun though.

Oh, it definitely would, but I don't think I'll be the person telling it. What I'm plotting out now is a traditional fanfiction.

The star is still Aya Yuuki, although a far more human variant. Her sidekick, however, is Shurelia... who is not, in this instance, a Reyvateil.

Look forward to it. :D

So the original Shurelia, the dead daughter of the Origin's designer?

Who is not at this point dead. There are multiple reasons for that, but...

Unless you visit us on IRC (and help with the plotting), you'll just have to wait and see. :p
IRC doesn't exactly work very well on mobile, and I still need to avoid Ar nosurge spoilers for a while.

Also, it would probably be a good idea to have a link to the IRC threadmarked in here.

Sorta semi-official irc channel

Well, I mean... the channel isn't specific to this thread, it's just where I hang out a lot, as well as a couple of the other frequent posters here.

But, sure. It's irc.rizon.net #nanoha... if you don't have a preferred IRC client, then here's a direct link via irccloud.

Well, I go there so infrequently that I usually end up just searching this thread for "IRC" in order to find a link.

Because yes, I don't actually have a preferred IRC client. It's the kind of thing that I only use once in a blue moon.

Writing from mobile to announce this: I'm without an internet connection for the next three weeks due to an outage damaging the telephone lines, so I won't be able to access IRC until then. I'll report back when this problem gets solved.
