A/N: So, I should probably do more Harvest Festival relevant things
@nwish425 sir. There's Lilith, Athena & Medusa, most of my Nightmares, Melody & Meredith, and of course... the Kēryx nobody realized was at the Festival too. I should probably get that done first.
A Purpose Realized
----
Every Kēryx, every
Automaton, knew that their true purpose was to be whatever they wanted. Creating amorphous masses wasn't a thing the Divine Smiths could do,
yet, so they still had to be given intentional forms.
Like any creature with a fixed form, there were things they were naturally suited for. To scour the lands for both threats & interesting things, it was the obvious means for them to help their Creators.
Though only 15 of them do so, 15 Kēryx is still more than enough. Many of his Flock have already found their focus, Derora was nurturing the talents of blacksmiths and Pyra was bringing civilization to a community of enlightened animals.
There were more examples, but the point is that so many of them are doing wonderous things. Yet, what was 'he' supposed to do? Wandering around forever didn't feel very appealing.
Officially, diplomacy with The Mother & Lady Sophia was being left to Keros to handle, going from all the data in the Records... Melody & Meredith, daughters of The Mother & Lady Sophia, would be worth getting in contact with.
While it was unclear what effects it would have on more mystical & unconventional things, there was clearly much potential in this 'Transare' substance- and that was just based on what Pyra has seen.
If Keros was correct about The Mother & Lady Sophia getting involved with the destruction of the Berstuk, what new variant strain could be made now? What could the actual
Goddesses do, compared to their daughters?
Yet, there was no clear idea on where the two got off to, though... judging by what those 'Doravita' have said, the local crows have apparently been acting irregularly.
Such was clearly a sigh of something supernatural, or even
divine at work. Tracking down the source of these crows would most likely reveal something of great value, anything can be useful if one just understands how to use it.
----
Blackened land that nonetheless still nurtured life was tell-tale signs that Dragon Fire that burned the earth below, though locally it often referred to Peluda the Quilled specifically.
Despite being the remnants of highly mystical beasts, 'Dragon Soil' wasn't particularly interesting to most- it didn't matter
why a scar was made, the result was still just a scar.
For there to be so many Divinities to be gathering together at such a place was very unusual, but this 'Blackburn' seemed to be where the mysterious crows the Doravita fear originate from.
To the naked eye, there wasn't much obviously strange about the village- yet there were bits and pieces, things only those who understood what they saw would actually understand.
Between that and whispers, whatever God ruled this place hadn't made it obvious to all. Well,
prior to this day, it seems all the outsiders and festivities were but a prelude to the God's introduction.
Through mist & crow, by music & dance, the God revealed himself- seemingly an ordinary man by appearance, but as the bonfire raged & an image of a perverse abomination was shown did the God quickly dropped any pretense of hiding his true nature.
Quite a theatrical introduction altogether, this 'Samhain'- or is it 'Sigeric'? From the way it was spoken, 'Sigeric the Redeemed' must be very notable on this land.
Whatever the name didn't matter, nor even the form- there was a God, and wasn't doing anything blatantly malicious. There were many signs of Divinity throughout the village, though the Samhain is most likely the ruler.
How to approach though? Simply flying over to a God was rather inappropriate, the Samhain didn't
seem malevolent- but there's so many things unknown, any plan to approach needed careful consideration.
Out of the large gathering, many of the humans chose to depart for the festivities- some had their eyes lingering on the Samhain, but the idea of walking right up to a God was something many clearly acknowledged wasn't proper.
However, one in particular stood out- not for any obvious reason, the brunette male seemed easily dismissible... if one only cared for the apparent. From the body language and other subtle & non-visual clues, it was clear what was happening.
Watching the human start to walk off resignedly, free from immediate distraction, not many were going to notice- and even less react. Not much was explained about these 'Nightmares', but most of these humans wouldn't expect some other God's servant to be running around here.
Landing on the chosen man's shoulder, head turned and brown eyes stared at 'himself.' For a moment, the only noise was from their surroundings, before the man spoke. "You're not a Nightmare, are you?"
That furthered the theory, so... "No, what God did you meet before the Samhain?" The man sighed gently, looking around to find nobody making an effort to observe, before responding.
"She looked like some
Noblewoman, but I doubt that was her true form. It was this... Hunt that wasn't a Hunt, the prey was a different God- an
evil God that championed death and murder. She was there to kill it, and I believe she did."
While that by itself doesn't prove anything, it
does line up with what Keros found... "I presume you wanted to meet with the Samhain? I do not understand who 'Sigeric the Redeemed' is, but Redeemed implies he is a favorable figure. Knowing what kind of God you're dealing with is perfectly valid, is it your hope he is similar to this 'Noblewoman' Goddess?"
The man nods gently, responding softly. "If he really
is Sigeric the Redeemed, I truly
do hope he would punish evil just like that Goddess. I couldn't possibly do anything to fight a God directly, I don't like what might happen if I'm wrong..."
The possibility of deception and/or secret malice can't
definitively be denied just yet, but... "Allow me to accompany you then, if he is truly violent it will be no secret- I am connected to a vast library of knowledge, which my own God can easily access. Anything I observe is added to that library, so fear not."
For a few moments the human processed that information, before finally responding. "I still hope he's
not secretly evil, I like being alive. My name is Heimlich, what about you?"
Names, such truly does not seem important, but the ease it provides is undeniable... "Quvis will do, Mr. Heimlich. Now, shall we plan how to approach the Samhain together?"
----
A/N: Everyone forgot about Heimlich didn't they? I suppose that makes sense, he only had
one appearance. Not really sure how this will fit into the main story marks, I just know Heimlich would have inevitably tried to approach Samhain- what with, ya know, having witnessed what had to be a bonafide Goddess at a Hunt specifically about killing an Evil Deity. Makes total sense he would want to see if Samhain is actually trustworthy.
One thing when you're at an Event where you
know your allies are clearly your allies, it is another when there's no Special Force making it explicitly clear who to trust and fear. For all Heimlich knows, Samhain might be a charlatan just using Saint Sigeric' image or that maybe dying Unredeemed him. Really, there's no way Heimlich is the
only suspicious one, he's just the only one present who has prior familiarity with Gods.
Not sure what to do next, I was gonna save my Thana omake either for last or near the end regarding my Harvest Festival tie-in omakes.
