Antman and the Wasp

But are they truly 'filler' when they're a thousand times better and thematically richer than the 'real' movie that succeeded them? :thonk:
Well I'd say the first half of Ragnarok was good, aka the Planet Hulk movie which isn't a Hulk movie since they don't have the rights to make a hulk movie, the Asgard half is bland, and Hela is a horrible villain. Black Panther is mixed for me, I liked Andy Circus and I wish he was the Villain instead of Killmonger, but I felt it was rather bland. And I think Infinity War is a great movie, it has its flaws, but I think it's good.

Watched the movie yesterday. I liked it, though there were some issues with it I found quite annoying as well. I found it funny, Paul Rudd carries the movie quite well and there was some great moments. Found wasp to be a bit boring as a generic badass girl character. I also did not like Cassie, her lines were just a bit to saccharine and on the nose for me. Not sure what else to say other then move into spoilers since a lot of the movie is built on some reveals.

Okay so the thing I liked most in the movie was that the villains had limits. Ghost was ruthless because she was dying and the blackmarket tech guy was greedy and manipulative but no one was just a pyscho for no reason. It was actually a weird relief. I am so used to villains in action movies like this to be irredeemable sadistic monsters. I disliked Janet having weird quantum powers at the end. It just felt way too convenient. Also, why is she dressed as a wasteland survivor? Where did she get that linen? I thought the quantum realm was just a sea of unstable matter? Its not a big deal but it was weird. I loved ghost. I thought she was really cool and interesting. The guy who played Doctor Foster seemed a bit flat and phoning it in. He is a good actor when he wants to be but it felt like he wasnt trying. Oh and of course the post credits scene makes me dislike IW all the more since this it means another plotline it derails via collateral damage.

They were old tweets that he's already long since apologized for, and he apologized for them again. Also, the guy that Disney and Marvel fucking rolled over for to make this fucking dumbass decision is a far-right douchebag who has quite literally bragged about raping women.

Disney saw how ArenaNet handled Jessica Price and went "hold my beer"

I'm sure there will be no unfortunate ripple effects from ceding moral authority to the likes of Mike Fucking Cernovich

Gunn apparently put film titled 100 Pubescent Girls Touch Themselves embedded on his personal website; he received the video from a man who was later convicted of pedophilia. Disney is brand for children and teenagers and I can't really fucking think of more of brand poison - maybe kosher shop run by holocaust denier come close?

There are standards of conduct required of high-end corporate professionals and basic PR training about what you put on your websites/social media/public communication even as 'private' person is one of those.

That's from pure marketing perspective, even without judging ethics/morality of his actions. If I were to advise Disney I would too say drop the fucker as fast as you can.

where does johnny depp fit into this chart

if only someone had pointed all of this out before they hired Gunn for three major films

oh whoops lol someone did in 2012, right before he signed on for Guardians

So one of history's biggest entertainment companies basically let Mike "I pled down rape charges" Cernovich act as FO for moral opprobrium, 1 summary dismissal, 1 director, half assed PR damage control for effect

And then people on this website believed that a non-viewable link which probably lead to a song by the Divynls was actually le ebin le paedo kino le based and le redpilled le hashtag le Q le hashtag le TheStormIsComing

People like Cernovich have now realised that they can turn a desire to appear well meaning against their political opponents by transmitting bullshit straight into the front lobes of a super digitally connected and totally cowardly managerial class who want to be seen to be hashtag woke even when that means acquiescing to genuine monsters, thereby not only fucking over people they don't like but further tainting the nascent tools of restorative justice whose wielders they so despise, and whose effectiveness they so envy

Some of the most effective postmodernist culture jamming is coming from the libertine woman hating fascists and actual Nazis

And people fucking believe it?

Jesus fucking Twilight zone

God damn, but we'll the sad thing is that Disney, in all their two faced glory with hiring Depp despite the fact he's a proven abuser, but firing Gunn kind of proves they couldn't give two shots about morality. They saw that Fox was going mad with the news, went "Oh shit we'll lose money" and canned the guy, and I bet the trump supporters will have a fucking field day with Gunn's tweets.

My review:

Ant-Man and the Wasp
The latest film (20th) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Scott Lang (Ant-Man) has been under house arrest for his actions in Captain America: Civil War (and due to the Sokovia Accords...). As such he is stir-crazy in trying to entertain his daughter, Cassie. The scenes where he and Cassie navigate the maze were very well put together. The FBI response when he accidentally puts his foot through the fence was also well done, and helps to set up their role in the storyline, including the length of time the events would take place over.
The dream-message from Janet Van Dyne and Scott's subsequent 'roping in' to Hank and Hope's rescue mission is also well done. Sunny Birch as an understated antagonist is quite effective, as is the Ghost. The reveal of who the Ghost is, and her connection to Hank Pym, was appropriately drawn out. Having to deal with the problems caused by past decisions seems to be a major theme here. Scott's decision to help 'Cap' is just the tip of the iceburg. Most of the problems lie at Hank Pym's feet.
However, teamwork is also important. Without Luis and the other X-Cons, the situation wouldn't have been resolved with Janet van Dyne's rescue. Scott is also instrumental to that rescue, with Janet stuck in the Quantum Realm. Hank also has to 'eat humble pie' regarding his ego, that he needs help from Foster to help track down his lab. Then there is the Ghost, connecting with the other MCU storylines, her problems being not only caused by Pym's rejection of her father, but also by SHEILD.
The chases through San Francisco (and the bay) are done rather well, with resizing of vehicles (and of the lab) being used offensively. A very good film. 8.75/10.

One the one hand this film kept me entertained enough, and had such a good pacing that It didnt feel like any time had passed when the film ended.
On the other hand, the film raised many questions that I kept asking myself (mostly dealing with the last 1/4 of the movie) after leaving the theater.
Things like how did janet get that thin cotton robe/headscarf? I mean when we saw her go in, all she had was the suit. What did she eat? How did she breath if this layer is so small that oxygen atoms would probably be the size of planets? If the size layer she is on is so freaky deaky and removed from most of the laws of reality why did she age?

Quantum robe made from quantum cotton. Quantum meat and quantum vegetables. Quantum fruits, too. Quantum oxygen. Quantum aging.
Here are your answers.

Just saw it a couple of hours ago.

Pretty fun movie, and most of what I wanted to say in the immediate reaction was already said in previous posts. The only thing I'd add is that there's an odd sort of pacing issue in some of the action scenes: we follow the primary fighters (Ant-man, Wasp, Ghost, etc) around as they dance around the area, and the secondary characters get hit once to be taken temporarily out of commission until the plot needs them again... but continuity-wise, they're still there, and I end up wondering why they haven't been accidentally stepped on or something during the fight, before everything calms down again and they pop back up to continue their lines.

This happens at least twice I can think of, although there might be more that slipped my mind.

I suppose the gist of the movie is "don't think about it too hard".

Maybe they are too low level, they lose all their hp in one hit and have to wait for the encounter to end before being revived.

Just got back from seeing the film with my nephews it was good, but I'm still unhappy about the long wait that had to be endured because of the release date delay for Ireland and the UK.

The anger over the release date delay for some parts of the world could be a reason why Antman and the Wasp has only made 429 million at the box office so far.

It is still on track to make about as much as the first Ant-Man did. Though yes if they had no had an early release in the US they likely would have made more. The idea of only pushing back the date in places where the World Cup matters was a mistake.

Well Russia got no such delay and they were hosting the World Cup and Ireland wasn't in the damn tournament, neither was Poland which got a similar release date delay. So the claim the release date delay was due to the World Cup is something I don't believe for a damn second.

One thing I really enjoyed (and like about more recent Marvel in general) is the whole, unashamed superhero style to it. Like, yeah, it's a crazy setting. We don't even really need to bother with constant winks and nods to the audience about how crazy this is, excepting maybe a joke about the technobabble, we'll just let them enjoy the ride.

Sure, let's have a travel size laboratory and make it integral to several fight scenes. Let's have weird quantum superpowers. Let's have ants capable of following programming intricately enough to do delicate lab work and play the drums. Hell, let's have Hank Pym be the crazy mad scientist he is and decide to store a collection of cars in a Hot Wheel's box because he probably thought it would be funny even if, if he stayed as secretive as he was trying to be, no one but him would have a chance to appreciate the joke. (Maybe Hope would give a chuckle at it or roll her eyes, either of which would make continuing to use a Hot Wheels case to store his cars for years entirely worth it in his eyes.)

It's ridiculous, it's fun, but it also trusts the audience to take it seriously enough that it can do those things without being afraid of ruining the drama or suspense. I just really enjoy that, aesthetic, I guess would be the word.

Disney reports that ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is on track for a $23-24M opening day in China (incl. midnights), making it the country's 4th biggest MCU opening day of all-time (behind only AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, AVENGERS Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War

Asia loves Ant-man.
