Along Came a Spider or How to be a Hero(Spider-Man/Worm)

.....You know what, this conversation has the potential to be hilarious. As long as it doesn't turn into a hugbox.

See, Amy's thing is feeling the need to keep healing people and feeling guilty about taking time off.

This room is almost the worst possible collection of people to encourage her otherwise. Let's tally it up:

We have Peter Parker, "With great power comes great responsibility." He lets one crook go, that crook goes on to kill Uncle Ben. He has a bad case of Chronic Hero Syndrome, where he drops everything to stop a crime. If I had to describe how Spidey balances his cape life, his social life, and his schooling, I would use "Barely." When he's having a good week. Otherwise it's, "Badly."

Also, he currently has no life beyond his cape life. No points for guessing what he's gonna do with his spare time.

Next, we have Danny Hebert. Whose driving focus in life is the Dockworker's Union. The job kicks him in the teeth, and he has to be the bearer of bad news, but he still does everything he can for his people.

Next up, Taylor. Who having just triggered has not yet embraced the workaholic lifestyle, but this being Taylor, she's not too far from it.

These are not people who take breaks when the going gets tough; they work to the job, not the hours. Spidey and Danny are practically married to their jobs. Hell, if we got Armsmaster and Emily Piggot in here we could have a Battered Spouses meeting.

These people talking about taking breaks either rings so false you could hang them in a belltower, or so hypocritical they could go into comedy.

So yeah, I'm kind of looking forward to this conversation. And really hoping it shows how Spidey is a lot more like Panacea than not.

It is never wrong to help people!

Uh, no, Amy's thing is that nobody in her family really wants her around besides Victoria, and she can sense that from their behaviour. She's spending so much time at the hospital not out of a desire to heal, but a desire not to be in the super awkward environment back home.

She's nowhere as exhausted from her work as fanon makes her out to be. Just feeling unloved AND with a forbidden love interest, and using work to keep her mind off it.

That doesn't make it a healthy coping mechanism, but then what is?

Hey, we can fix Peter, too. Having fewer connections here, he doesn't have to do as much balancing. We could be a bit superior if we want.

Well, it's only Carol that has a problem with her.
Mark's problem is he's got depression, so has his own difficulties.

Even Carol likes and cares for Amy, at some level, but she's got issues where she doesn't trust her own judgement about people, so she doesn't 'trust' Amy, because she doesn't trust herself.

At least, that's how I've heard.

You didn't read worm?

he is correct in a psycological sense when carol was younger she was kidnapped along her sister by a crazy guy, and she developed a bit of trust for him(that symdrome), but from nothing he wanted to kill both of them and she triggered possibly fucking Carol in the head about people with criminal afiliations and not trusting them. She cared about Amy but there is something always saying that she is only acting just to betray Carol in the end...Carol needs therapy along side Mark

Every first gen parahuman and maybe some second or third gen need therapy. The very conditions that are required for their powers to manifest are things that need therapy afterwards. You'd think therapy and GOOD therapists become a real hot commodity in this kind of environment.

There's an Endbringer smashing something every few months. And every parahuman has a bit of an alien inside them nudging them along.

The therapists need therapy...and therapy takes a long time to actually be effective.

This is correct.

Not helping the issue is that Carol knows she's fucked to honestly trusting Amy and getting over her issues barring exceptional circumstances on concentrated family therapy, she knew this before she adopted her, hell she said this aloud to her sister and Amy happened to hear.

Sister still pushed her to take her becuase she already had too sprogs.

But anyhow. They need therapy. Therapy requires time, trust and effort to work. Carol doesn't trust people nor her own judgement and Amy has self esteem issues and generally doesn't trust herself or people ingeneral with her power.

Which is honestly a good thing. She can wipe out the world in a week of casual travel and most of the state in an hour being really harsh.

I'm being really harsh on her ability to make world devestating super pathogens.
That IS a problem actually since microbial options tend to mutate and be predated upon. The microlife world is pretty harsh and not all that mobile without significant assistance.

What she could do is go Nilbog pretty quickly though, then use those to begin Zerg Campaign Start

I hope Amy won't "heal" Peter from his little problem.
What, his genetic anomaly that gives him powers? Yeaaahh, might be bad to 'heal' that. Or do you mean the slowly mutating into a human sized spider man thing. Or is that in the past or something... I don't really follow the comics much (at all) and remember vaguely that happening.

She needs to touch him, first. And he's currently wearing a full body covering, so I don't think we need to worry about that.
Besides, she always asks for permission first before doing healing. And would probably ask questions before undoing any perculities.
