Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 3: Choosy Chosen Choose Cheering Choices

People. We need to check the stuff that the friendly neighborhood PRIMORDIAL gave us. Chances are it's awesome.

And why do we care about Panacea again?

I'm pretty sure you can't make someone into an Essence three god by accident, that sort of thing requires a significant investment of power.

I admit that it would be an interesting turn of events, but I'm honestly a bit baffled why some people see a rather far-out possibility as inevitable consequence...
Probably because of the "Familiar 5"-entry on the character sheet, combined with the timing (ie, essentially directly after the update where Dragon got zapped with Essence and Weird Stuff happened as a result).

On the other hand, it's *ALSO* directly after the update where we got into direct contact with Big A and got our mission from him, so the Design Weaver is also possible, and might very well meant to help us find Exaltation-candidates.

So, both are fairly valid theories.

I really really hope Dragon isn't the familiar -_- It feels like it cheapens her character, and gives Taylor easy access to more backing.

Because she can be either an incredible asset or horrible threat depending on how she actually uses her powers? Both for us and humanity in general?

Yeah well, I don't see how it concerns us directly. You are trying to make this Taylor social-fu, playing to her weakness.
Is Taylor awesome at investigating? Hell yeah! At tech? Of Course! At social networking? ...

So let's stop being all over the place and start playing to a goal. Auto-kun wants us to save him, Taylor wants to know wth is going on with her Dad, We have a few people that (almost) trust us. Let's consolidate here before doing stuff like befriending/"saving" Panacea.

Panacea was one of the debated candiates for an exaltation. Excepting her mental stability issues(which we'd address first)

If we get our War high enough (and/or get enough specialties in Swarm Manipulation) can we use our Swarm to stop bullets or other long ranged attacks like energy weapons?

Grom 'did' say it was possible to Parry attacks using our Swarm with a high enough War/enough Specialties. I know that's different, but it's still a possibility.
Taylor actually did it in canon, using her swarm to parry grenades and tangle them in mid air with sticky silk. It'd be easier if we had harder stuff in the swarm of course. Something which could actually take a hit.

As for modifying Dragon to Essence 3, I figure it's unlikely, we're only Essence 2 ourselves. Not enough power barring an accidental activation of the Eye.

I'm wondering why people want to waste time making armour when it won't be ready for days and we have much more urgent things to do.

Where does this assumption that we could gain Dragon as a familiar come from? A five dot familiar is "a unique Essence 3 mechanical god, complete with an array of custom abilities and Charms," which is a good deal above Dragon's weight class. Also, from the description of the Familiar background it's clear that an Alchemical Familiar is issued from Autochthonia upon formal request. Quoting "Manual of Exalted Power: Alchemicals," page 93:
It's actually massively below Dragon's weight class. Dragon is probably either a 4 dot Mentor or a five dot ally, in my judgement.

She's a powerful Thinker/Tinker and AI with massive influence and probably wealth.

For the familiar, look at what our insects have been doing without needing orders that we remember giving.

Zechstein said:
What I meant is the personal power Dragon can bring to bear. Her Dragon suits are formidable, but not on the level of a five dot alchemical familiar. As a mentor or ally I agree completely, she would be worth five dots, but she would be a four dot familiar (high intelligence, vast array of useful skills, but no essence use).
I disagree. A familiar is a complete package. If they have massive influence, their rating would go up accordingly. Dragon massively breaks the cap on power for a Familiar. It would be like having a 2nd/3rd Circle demon as a Familiar.

Dragon is also personally vastly more powerful than an Essence 3 machine god.

Dragon is a top tier character in the setting. She's not some casual character that can be spun into Taylor's orbit. To think otherwise is seriously disrespecting her in my opinion.

My interestingly, imagine a Taylor whose swarm has a single sapient hive mind that is loyal to her as her familiar.

Probably not too likely since Alchemical familiars are delivered from Autochton upon request. Might be some kind of mechanical hive entity though.

Autocthonian Familiars are. We're not in Autochonia, so we're unlike to get one, and more likely to get a local animal.

Autochton clearly can deliver things to us though. A new familiar wouldn't be too unusual compared to finding the freaking Eye of Autochton inside us. The description of the Familiar delivery looks just like summoning a demon.
Familiars may be requisitioned
from anywhere in Autochthonia or Creation, though it takes
appreciably longer for a summoned companion to reach a
character in Creation
There may be a delivery delay.

I I think you are wrong, but I'm too lazy at the moment to search for my copy of The Books of Sorcery, Vol. IV to consult the rules for making a five dot familiar...
Essence 3 gods are really nothing special.

We didn't 'find' the Eye of Autocthon. Autocthon converted the sculpture we made of him into it.

Well, that went well. And Miss Militia and Dir. Piggot are smart enough to start putting the pieces together by themselves and thinking up intelligent plans of action. Speaking of which - Piggot all but ordered us to copy Armsmasters lie detector ASAP, so I think that with a bit of clever stunting we can get that done today. I'm going with just fixing up our old costume and tacking the lie detector to our new head gear since that way we might be able to sneak it in without a tech review.

OTOH, going the power armor route: if we focus exclusively on building our helmet we ought to be able to do it in just one or two intervals, and with Piggot pushing for us to get the lie detector she can get approval fast-tracked. From a PR front some more heavy-duty armor can fit within a broader re-framing of our brand - with our taking bullets for our friends we've shown that we provide security to the masses, a great sentinel willing to risk herself to protect others.

The other thing - yes, the five-dot familiar is shiny. Don't be distracted by the shiny. Influence (PRT) is going to be incredibly valuable for what we're going to be trying to accomplish in the coming weeks - easier to get what we want, more leeway in how we pursue our goals, the system working for us rather than against us. Influence means our opinion carries at least some heft within the institution, so even a single dot is going to make a big difference because the PRT's general attitude toward us[1] changes from neutral to positive and gives us clout outside of our minor rank within the PRT.

So with that in mind...

[X] The Wards are in school, so take it easy this afternoon (to facilitate healing) and write emails to (re)connect with Sally, Dragon, Panacea (thank for healing attempt), the Outcasts, the Cheerleaders, and Coach Sato. Also do some light cooking for the PRT day-shift folk, making enough to cover most of their lunches, and talk to them about what's going on and how the PRT is responding to yesterday's events.
- [X] Stunt: You hate to admit it, but you need expert advice on this, and, apart from Glenn, you only know one expert. Coach Sato. It is with a certain nervousness that you track down her office phone number and ring her during one of the breaks in her timetable. You're in luck though, and she's more than happy to help you plan out what you want to say, and to read out your message to the cheerleading team. of course, you do all this invisibly.

[x] Refit your costume with base materials from the other outfits and items so that it only needs PR Approval and not a Tech Review review. This will take 1 Interval to complete.
- [x] Stunt: Upgrade your mask to a protective helmet or forehead protector with visor. The Director all but ordered you to make a copy of Armsmasters lie detector, it's important to get that done ASAP. Get Armsmasters help with getting it finished and online as quickly as possible, and for integrating his lie detector. Once you're finished, bring it to Director Piggot so you can get approval fast-tracked. Point out to her that, since Armsmasters lie-detector has already been approved, there's no need for it to be subjected to Tech Review again which ought to help keep the mole from finding out we have that capability too.

[x] 3xp Influence (PRT)

[1]Backing (PRT) covers institutional responsibility and support, which is not the same thing. Right now we're more like a really useful Tinker that they funnel resources towards so that we'll start making useful stuff.

So I just bothered to actually look up and see what the Eye of Autocthon could do.

As a player with OOC, I don't really want to use it ever. Except maybe to put down Scion.

As a player sticking to IC, I see a few things that will draw its use. First and foremost is an Endbringer coming at us, or us learning what it can do and Fixing, improving and committing madness on Kyushu and Finland/wherever Dragons creator is from.

Alternatively, Dad dies, Death is gonna be crying in the corner for a very very very long time as we reverse time and casualty to revive the dead.

Ugh. Blegh.
In that case Gromweld needs to go and actually give an explanation for how *he* interprets the various Backgrounds and what they do, because the way he uses many is *VERY* much divergent from how they're portrayed in the game rules.

For example, there is no such thing as "Influence (Organization)" or "Reputation (Group)" in the basic rules.

We can't get Armsmaster's help yet, he's busy. That's one of the reasons I don't want to do this action now.
