Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 14: Newborn Number Needs Nurturing, Nine Newcomers Near

Focusing on Queen Administrator's title, I'd say an emphasis on control, command, data transfer, networking, things like that.
Alternatively, drawing from the fact that the shard is now an Autochthonian Charm, it might be Leet on steroids, with a special focus on the creation of machines that produce esoteric effects.

Why?

QA is not about being "EVERYTHING!", or "THE BEST!, it's about using other things.
Ah, but Autochthon is about being "EVERYTHING!" and "THE BEST!", and guess who converted our shard to a Charm? Auto-kun.

It's possible that there would be some bleed-over from Autochthon's influence, in the event that we unlocked QA's Tinker capabilities.

Anyway, this is all just idle speculation.

Wouldn't a couple of SoPA's submodules count as Trump abilities?
They all sound like Master abilities, just expanding the types of things SoPA can effect.
Spirit Attunement Generators sounds like it may have similarities to what Glaistig Uaine/Valkyrie does, so there may be a Trump rating to be gotten there.

For all my hand-wringing and waffling during Arc 4, it looks like there was a population for Brockton Bay stated in canon after all. It's even in the Leviathan Arc, so I'm not sure how I missed it in my previous re-reads:

I was scared. A huge part of me wanted to just close my eyes and hope Leviathan didn't come, that I wouldn't have to deal with him. It would be nice to join the three hundred and fifty thousand other Brockton Bay residents that were trusting the heroes to handle things, find a peace of sorts in surrender and helplessness. Except I couldn't. I'd seen firsthand how Leviathan had taken down some of the strongest capes. I couldn't find refuge in that kind of trust anymore. My mental and emotional resources were better spent on figuring out how to help than they were on hope.
A far cry from my guesstimation of 60-90k. Yikes.

I don't have the time at the moment to comb through this Quest to bring it back in-line with canon, so I'm going to ask for help to make my life easier when I get back from travelling. Since I won't ask you folk to do something for nothing, XP rewards are in effect. I need links/quotes to:
- Erroneous in-story mentions of BB's population
- Erroneous in-story mentions of BB's size (it should be 16 miles square, now, not 4)
- Any other errors that would come from this change, or other tweaks that should be made to reinforce this correction

Worth noting that BB being 350k pop means it is DOUBLE the size of Providence, RI (the state's capital), and ~60% the population of Earth-Bet's Boston. I still can't really see a better place to put the city (to keep it in line with the distances from Boston and New York stated in canon), so it looks like Rhode Island got a significant population increase... and decrease. Brockton Bay's 'new' size doesn't mean that more civilians were saved, however... it just means Behemoth killed an order of magnitude more people. Painful, but perhaps more in-line with Endbringer disasters; sure, the cape body count was low, but the civilian body count was not.

I shall answer the call.

I've done an Edit > Find sweep of the story looking for the keywords "Bay" (as in Brockton Bay), "thousand" "city" "people" "population" and "mile", although I switched to just searching "Bay" after 5.1. I've probably missed some things that fully reading everything through would catch, and I may have been overzealous with what I have found, but here's what I've got:

He shrugs and gives a negative, mentioning that the PRT is a pretty large organization in Brockton Bay; with the Protectorate Headquarters out in the bay and the PRT Headquarters in the Docks, there's around a little over a thousand PRT employees in total even if only around two-fifths of those are agents that do actual field and guard work.

Those that are handling the non-powered reinforcement paperwork mention that the city will be getting five more trucks and five-man squads to fill them by the end of the week, as well as two more patrol helicopters.

"Actually, I could do that kind of search in just a few minutes for each neighborhood. All I need is permission - with my armor or a flight-capable partner, I could comb the city's rooftops in a day with my swarms."
...
Except, as you try to hold to your wry grin in the face of the gathered Protectorate members, you're taken once again by how awe-inspiring the heroes look in full regalia - especially now with Rime (second-in-command to Alexandria), and Chevalier (leader of the Protectorate of Philadelphia, not just a tiny backwater town like Brockton Bay). Mouse Protector kind of ruins the image, though.
4.2 said:
The last census you saw of Brockton Bay put the total in-city population at just under 90,000 two years ago, but that number was always just… a statistic.
4.4 said:
On one hand, you're relieved that the thousands of people in the shelters your swarms can see might make it out of this alive, but such a display means that Behemoth is now purely focused on making it to his destination.
4.6 said:
Between the two of them, they have seen millions of civilians die to Endbringer attacks; from the numbers Dragon has projected onto your armband, the seventy-to-eighty thousand that will die tonight are just part of the calculus of the Endbringer apocalypse for them.
...
Twenty minutes into your sweeping of Endbringer shelters, you have identified four shelters that have already collapsed, ten with more than one hundred survivors within, thirteen with more than four hundred, and two with almost a thousand.
...
Fifteen minutes of further searching, while the earthquakes have only progressively gotten worse, have yielded only one more shelter with more than one thousand inhabitants.
4.7 said:
Eidolon was able to save more shelters than we expected, but we're still looking at a 72% casualty rate for Brockton Bay itself, with a 64% casualty rate for the rest of the county."
...
Thousands of civilians, most huddled together with family or friends under the grey of their hand-out blankets.
...
Hundreds, if not thousands, of children separated from their parents.
5.1 said:
Compared to Mexico City's civilian body count of almost eight hundred thousand - most from when Behemoth set off an underground oil reserve - the projected death toll here is a small fraction.
6.6 said:
Brockton Bay didn't have anything resembling a large museum, though there were a few small art galleries in the Market that catered to various art styles.
...
as well as a list of the civilian lives lost in Brockton Bay and surrounding cities.

All ninety-three thousand, two-hundred fifty-five of them.

Taylor spent a lot of time getting to know the rank-and-file PRT staff, which is doable when there's 'only' a little over a thousand of them, but you might want to insert a note early in those efforts to frame it more as an effort to show willing, if the PRT's numbers are upped to something more fitting for a city of 350,000 people.

As far as the shelters, whether they're larger or more numerous affects the quoted sections in different ways. It also depends on whether the rescue efforts saved the same percentage of the population, or the same absolute numbers.

Between the two of us, we've probably caught most all of them then, and now others know that Stuff Has Been Tried.

Arm yourselves my comrades! The Quest draws Near!

As I am hurtled through the air for 5.5 hours, I will spend my time in the upper atmosphere plotting new ways to make your favorite character's life worse.

I am become the Simurgh.
