Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 11: Kilning Kaleidoscopic, Kerygmatic Kindred

If you exalt Vista at this stage in the game, there is a high probability of Taylor being arrested and/or needing to flee the PRT. You might be able to pull it off with only major damage to your reputation, reinstatement of your Probationary Wards status, and effective lock-down on all of your powers for the foreseeable future, but that's a best-case scenario.

Hey, if that's what you guys want, it'd certainly shake things up!
Esbilon said:
This kind of bandwagon'ing is self-strengthening. Last time the vote was controversial, Gromweld agreed to count different votes as not-Twins votes, and let people vote their preference. Perhaps he could be persuaded to do so again.

@Grom, could you? And would it be fair, it's not quite as clear cut this time.
As I said last time: vote for what you want, not just for what you think will win. That's all I'm going to say again.
Esbilon said:
-[ ] Stunt: "You said to ask if I needed anything from Boston," you say to Weld as you meet in his Boson office. For a metallic man, it is surprisingly... organic, a carved wooden desk, soft classical music filling the room, books on the shelves and a thick rug on the floor. "Well," you begin uncertainly, "I think I may need you."
The wording of this Stunt, by the by, would result in some hilarity.
landcollector said:
I'd like confirmation from Gromweld: Would Uriel interfere with/find out about the free action in question?
I'm not going to confirm or deny this. Use your best guess.

So the current vote is:
26 for Bladedancer, 20 for Marrow, 17 for Missy, 14 for AM/MM, 2 for Weld and 1 for Myrrdin.

19 for the Twins, 18 for the Twins and Aisha and 11 for the Twins and Missy.

Vote tally:

OK, quick note guys: Craft (Soulgem) is kind of like picking up Craft (Grimclever) as a specialty - it's far too specific, and totally not worth the XP.

It is also not immediately useful and thus can be safely deferred for later purchase should we decide to pick it up anyway.

Investigation (Reading People ●○○) is a better pick given our present needs. That, or just save up for an Ability purchase next update. In fact, both Occult and Bureaucracy are 1 interval away from being available, it might be a good idea to save up for them.

Wouldn't giving people motonic souls with soulgems help with spreading essence? And maybe help somewhat with the exaltation sales pitch, though it's not the relvant Lore speciality and thus probably not really useful for that?

And now I'm convinced that Reading People is better than Craft (Soulgem).

I'll reiterate that the Soulgem speciality unlocks the ability to craft Soulgems and the components necessary to fit Earth-Bet humans with them, so this is in no way just like a 'Craft (Grimcleaver)' specialty... though in that case I'd have something fun for that specialty unlocked by the purchase as well. But whatever.

However, you ARE correct in that it's not immediately pressing: you still wouldn't have the Hun Soul to stick in the gem before you implant it (Iris may have these with him...), and you don't have the method to forge Po Souls out of Earth-Bet brains yet. So, while this would be a fun 'epiphany moment' purchase at the moment, I'll admit that there are other things that might be better to pick up right now than this.

[X] Peer Pressuring: Talk to a Ward. Visitors possible. Stunt chooses target, sets scene.
-[X] Stunt: You find the Twins standing in a recreation of the Gokoku-ji temple garden, tastefully decorated with traditional Japanese art. It is a solemn place and a memorial of sorts to the tragedy of Kyushu. "Um," you say eloquently, "could you maybe tell me something about those books you've been reading?" "What books?" Aisha appears, somehow surprising you despite ISF/SOPA.

Final Countdown: (Choose two, one Stunt allowed for each!)
[X] The Maker Wants YOU!: Interview and/or attempt to recruit someone for exaltation. Movers can be utilized to go anywhere in the world for this. Stunt chooses target, interview angle/pitch spin, and if anyone extra is with you.
-[X] Stunt: In a quiet, windowed room, you spoke to Marrow on how she felt about her duty to the people. The view of the city lights shining in the night reminded you of the millions of lives that mattered so much. A cracked window let the sounds of the city sneak in over the whipping wind, creating a contemplative atmosphere.

- [X] Stunt: You knock on Bladedancer's door waiting for her reply. When she opens it she looks incredibly grumpy in her rumpled oversized shirt and messy hair. You look her in the eye and pull a bokken from Elsewhere and spin it. "Let's try that again." Her reply is a feral grin, and throwing you though the opposite door.

[X] Free Action: With Dragon on the case with regards to assessing candidates through PRT records, you set SoPA to exploring other avenues of research through the internet. Knowing both their identities is a great help as you pick through newspaper archives, school records and official documents, building up a clearer picture of your fellow heroes behind their public personas.

Not enough time to switch the Ruminations I think. And mainly Ruminations is looking for Miss Militia. She has bonus insights.

I forgot to award this with anything when it popped up! Whoops! While it's not dense enough for a full XP award, it IS official-looking enough and provides sufficient authenticity that I'm likely to use this (or something like it) in the future. As a result, I'll go ahead and reward that kind of effort and bump it to a full point. +1 XP!

I see what you did there...I'll reiterate that the Soulgem speciality unlocks the ability to craft Soulgems and the components necessary to fit Earth-Bet humans with them, so this is in no way just like a 'Craft (Grimcleaver)' specialty... though in that case I'd have something fun for that specialty unlocked by the purchase as well.

To be constructive, rather than just listing the reasons why I don't like your approach:
I think a better method of representing what you're trying to accomplish would be to have it as a purchasable Background rather than as an ability specialty. Savant, I think, is the best solution here as it provides the same knowledge and mechanical benefits but, because it is much more broad in applicability, actually becomes a useful XP investment instead of an XP sink.

On second thought I'm going to move the specialty to Occult, and rename it 'Souls' since it'll cover more than just crafting them the gems (the rituals Luminors have for removing/adding souls to gems, for instance), and you're going to need better understanding of Souls in the long run when Essence Saturation starts being a Thing.

Maybe. The Twins situation would be better guessed at with this new specialty, but in no way would it answer the question definitively.
Sounds good. I'd like a hint on whether they should continue to have a slot reserved on my candidate listing.

Going to be tricky to count the votes, I assume you'd convert.
