Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 10: Journey Joins Juniors, Jerk Jinxes Juju

[ ] The Fourth Estate: While all the Brockton Bay Wards have had to go through the media machine this week, you've had an extra-heaping helping of local Television interviews, meet-and-greets, and photo ops. Smile!
-[ ] Stunt: Make use of the opportunity to promote support for combating S-class and A-class threats. Emphasize the need for humanity to stand together against these threats to civilization, that even those who are not able to contribute to a direct conflict can be of enormous assistance in rescue, evacuation, or support roles. Push the message of unity, across nations and personal matters. All humanity must stand together, or fall alone.

And a Fourth Estate stunt for consideration.

Welcome to Philadelphia: A Week of Hell (Choose three, one Stunt allowed for each!)

[] Feel The Burn: Now you get to see what most other city's Wards get to do instead of patrol: training! Lots, and lots of training on the obstacle courses and time in the sparring ring with the other Wards. DODGE!
-[] Stunt: It has come to your attention during the battle with Behemoth that the other Wards are poorly equipped and not making full use of their abilities. Talk to available Tinkers to see about getting everyone properly equipped, and work on team tactics for various situations. IEU greatly enhanced Vista's abilities, experiment with the rest of the wards to study its effects on their powers and get them used to it.

[] No Good Deed…: On an example patrol you went on, staying to help a group of civilians with some random task got you involved in a three-way gang/vigilante brawl. You helped win the day, but… the paperwork.
-[] Stunt: It was a golden opportunity for you get to know the non-PRT parts of the city's cape population, and get some unofficial contact with them, but it was even more of a surprise to know that some of them are sponsored by local businesses interested in keeping some order in the city. While stooping to being a heroic billboard is a bit on the crass side, you learn about some business owners who would be open to city improvement projects.

School Rules: (Choose one, one stunt allowed!)

[] Bacchanalia: Northeast High School, with an International Baccalaureate Program.
-X] Stunt: Enroll into a number of parahuman studies, psychology, sociology, economics, languages and politics courses, even as your enhanced abilities allow you to rapidly complete standard curriculum. The world needs to be put to order, but you need to persuade them to LET you first.

This vote is turning out to be another fuck up, I see. All the work we did to get social nearly to the palce where we need it, and then we drop it almost completely when we're on the edge. Remember how people were bemoaning wasting time patrolling? Now we seem to want to throw ourselves headlong into it an embrace the patrolling options as much as possible. What a waste.

And the school vote... I have no more words at the moment.
sainen said:
we are in charge"THROUGH GUILE YOU WILL ADMINISTER THE REST OF MY CHOSEN IN THIS NEW UNIVERSE." and "COMPLETE YOUR ASSEMBLY, ENDURING ORDER ADMINISTRATOR.".
also I don't think Glenn qualifies. "SEEK OUT THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED OUR PAIN.
BRING THESE BROKEN MINDS TO THE CRADLE SO THEY MAY BE REBORN." as he doesn't seem broken.
Administering something does not mean that we rule it or are in charge in the way you suggest.

Calm down, Alratan. We're still training social. Focusing on it exclusively to the detriment of all else is stupid. We need more evasion/Athletics, and Bureaucracy training as well.

The thing is, we're on a deadline with the S9, and we don't know when it is. We need to get our social skills into a place where we can start recruiting. We know that we need a combat focused Alchemical by them. Dodge/Athletics isn't going to cut it.

Now, the prevailing vote is to spend nothing on it, and burn a week.

Worse, the High School vote, which will permanently massively reduce our effectiveness.
uju32 said:
Don't be silly.
There are entirely valid reasons not to throw our entire focus into Social now that we're at 2 dots.

Lemme point out that while we survived Behemoth, it was with a lot of help.
And only a week before Benjy came to town, we took sniper fire.
And the training option wouldn't help us with that situation.
uju32 said:
Assuming that we are somehow all physically set is a pretty bad idea, since we will be covering not only for ourself but for teammates as well.

You might as well suggest that our armor is perfect and doesn't need improving since it survived a Behemoth attack.
None of it is perfect, none of it is even good enough. However, we know for absolute certain that we need to recruit a combat focused Alchemical very soon. We know that we can't get good enough in combat for it to be sufficient. That means it needs to take second priority to the social skills we need to facilitate that recruitment.

What surviving the Behemoth attack tells us is that our combat skills are good enough, not perfect, good enough for now, and that we can focus on higher priorities.

Any of the High School options gets us Socialize training, so I'm not sure why you're complaining about that. We can still set up a project to run, before we leave for the day, at HQ while we're at school. Many posters are choosing the TV Interview choice for more Socialize. What, exactly, is your issue?

Fixed it up a bit.

At the catholic school we can spend our free periods having our insects do multitasked jobs on computers, such as learn twenty programming languages at once if we set up the machines. The dive bomb method gets the keyboards messy but it works.

When/if we get industrial drones, we can also use the free periods to remotely make things beyond spider silk, which would need our direct supervision.

It's also a bit annoying as one of the votes is something that's a one off choice. We either join the cheerleading team, and get the benefits of the increased social practice/PR continually, or we don't join. Similarly with the modelling. It's not one off, it opens a door to continuing events and opportunities. The others are much more closed ended. We could do them at any time.
mmstar said:
The IB program seems a better use of school time, if we're going to be stuck in school. And well, it's at least better than the typical US school curriculum, which is going to leave Taylor here glazing out at all times OTHER than the free periods.
We have Lore 5. The entire curriculum, IB or otherwise, is a total waste of her time.
uju32 said:
Disagree.
None of the votes are useless else the GM wouldn't include them, and monofocus simply leaves us lacking in other areas.
I didn't say the votes are useless. They're simply less optimal. Grom has proved perfectly happy to give us actively bad choices before, he has no obligation to make them all equally useful.
uju32 said:
As opposed to running the fuck away. We need to survive in order to use Social, and Taylor has yet to prove that she can do so while protecting other people.
That's what the combat Alchemical we use the social to recruit in advance is for. We know we have to recruit them before the next major threat comes to town, otherwise our combat skills are useless..
uju32 said:
Yeah no.
Where else are non-PRT parahumans going to be able to make contact without necessarily drawing undue attention?
You do remember that the Undersiders are supposed to be coming to town right?
So? Is there some reason Tattletale can't infiltrate a Catholic school? This is ludicrous.

sainen said:
Fair point. I don't see that the IB is better than the standard curriculum in that regard though. Don't American high schools teach languages?

Anyway, this vote is clearly bandwagoned now, so discussion is pointless, so I'll just have to see what the Danny equivalent of this is down the line. Probably failing to recruit a competent combat Alchemical.

Alratan said:

Poorly, for the most part. Competently instructed language courses typically don't show up until college/university level.

[ ] Seriously, Fuck Camden: Another example patrol wound up getting roped into an emergency call from Camden, New Jersey. If this is what Brockton Bay was turning into, maybe Behemoth was a mercy.

[ ] Taste Is Blind: Kathy Patrice and Glenn's assistant showed up at the PRT's doorstep and stole you for twelve straight hours. You can read Elsewhere-stored books while you model, but she spoke of a return visit…

as much as i am a fan of catholic school(no sarcasm despite the rep had lots of fun not preachy even RE and you could get out of those if you had a reason) this option seems more interesting

Cheerleading gave us dodge training in addition to social skills last time, if I remember right. This should give us a nice combination of social and combat training, with school itself adding Linguistics and Bureaucracy.

Replacing my school stunt with this.

We can aways do this after school. The sheer utility of the current stunt is too much to replace with this.

We want to be able to work WHILE at school. If we're not near the stunt word limit, we could try to work it in.
Currently at 43 words on the leading school stunt. The apartment stunt is 48. Just weld the two together, using the remaining 9 words.

Still trying to think up a stunt for Winslow 2.0, but I like it for a number of reasons. Emotionally, it might be cathartic for Taylor to clean out a shit hole like Winslow was, to make sure that the the kind of things that led to her trigger event and Exaltation won't be allowed here. We're KNOWN now, nobody can stop us from being Queen Bee if we want it for the social influence, and our abilities and influence would let us come down fast on any bullying going on. Also, Grom has said that none of the other Wards will be sent to the same school as us, and I don't want any of our still traumatized friends and team mates subjected to such a piss hole.

There's also the fact that it could possibly give us additional insight on the local criminal world, and a bit of early warning if the gangs start getting worked up over something. Cleaning the place out would give us a lot of experience in administration and socializing.

I'm pretty sure the PRT's PR Machine will spread the word without extra effort on our part. Remember, Glenn's taken a personal stake in us. Otherwise, I like the others. Adding them to my votes.

I guess nobody wants to discuss Winslow 2.0? We could beat the place into shape, and I REALLY don't want any of our traumatzed teammates going through the same crap Taylor did.
