Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

The head-owners are dead and we don't even know if these skulls currently contain souls.
Yes, but they probably contain the souls of other Fey who they've been used against. That what I'm assuming, at least. Not really relevant for this encounter, but it would fit what I read in their fluff text.

Just wondering for later, since it would be amusing if one of them allowed for the control of the Fey who sent us on this quest.

More importantly, if they're already primed and ready to use, but do not contain souls, they would make valuable and powerful weapons we could use or sell.

So I'm wondering how hard it'd be to convincw them that were more dangerous than the Fetw that we got dispatch Quest from; and that we don't want to break our promise to return it but they're more than welcome to fight the other Fey for then once we do?

Antonio: So how much is a soul worth in gold or luxury goods? :V

I'm not feeling confident about a fight here and now. If there was just one Chaneque, it wouldn't be too bad, but there are very likely at least one or two more around us. That combined with the terrain and overall darkness due to the time, makes for very unfavorable circumstances.

This is a big vote so I am going to let you guys decide overnight, maybe even give it a full 24 hours. One thing you should keep in mind is that you have two archers with you and you yourself can also shoot a bow. You do not have to hit them with a sword if you do not have to.

I am strongly do not want to break the vow and make a deal with evil creatures.

[X] Plan: Hit them with a sword
-[X] Ask Inge to make some cover with her fog-spell (use Sicilian or French so the Fey don't understand)
--[X] If it works in terms of initiative, our bowmen should make a shot while she casts
-[X] Taunt the Fey, try to get them in melee range (something about hunters too afraid to face their supposed prey)
-[X] Try and kill them in melee to minimize the risk of them successfully using their soul-stealing-skull-throw

Something else to consider, now that I reread their bestiary page, just hitting someone with the skull doesn't give the Fey control. They have to retrieve the skull after successfully hitting a target and that target failing their Will save in order to use it for anything.

Maybe specify that we ask Inge in French, so the Fey won't know what we're saying? As DP pointed out, we also have to archers with us now. If they each snapped off a shot while Inge casts her spell, there is a good chance at least one of them will hit. If it's under fire them vision becomes obscured, it might be more willing to close to melee range.

Oh no. Unless we pull some bullshit out of our ass, we're in for a bad time.
Mythic really doesn't do a lot for it, though. It's too low level to really benefit much. Basically, it will be able to use its 1/day Mythic Surge to add a +1d6 bonus to a roll.

It is still CR 1, OK a really beefy CR 1 but still the saves HD and spell DC are things you can handle. What really makes it stand out as far as I can see is the soul binding. Dominate person is a level of magic that is far beyond mortal spell-casters in this world.

@Artemis1992, just to note, we can hit them with a bow and arrow. Trying to get them into melee on top of our still-healing Silver seems a bit unwise to me.

So is fleeing off the table? It would be a rough go of it, but with a 30ft /round flight speed vs a horse . A tactical retreat to chuck the skulls at that fountain spirit and yelling, "not my problem anymore" is a bit lame; yet I find it has appeal.

Well if you get as far as the fountain the fey there will presumably come out and help, I mean after all he does seem to want those skulls. Your horses are faster over open ground, though it is less sure how they will manage the narrow path. I would do some ride checks to see how things work out.

We can, but then they can throw skulls (which one-shot kill via soul-trapping) or use their magic to make us flee one by one.

Well then, I suppose I will throw out a rough draft of that plan.

[X] Plan: Tactical Redeployment with Parthian Option
-[X] Inform the party in French or Sicilian (Whichever is deemed spur of the moment harder to decipher the ideas) of the plan
-[X] Ask the fey for more information about these skulls, playing up both the creatures ego at wielding such power, and the fact you are unwitting participants in a larger play
-[X] The party will move to break towards the Fountain Spirit, with Inge using Fog to cover once attempts to get more information inevitably break down.
-[X] Upon pursuit opening up, Roland/Inge will gauge if this spirit has additional forces following.
-[X] If additional creatures join in, retreat will continue to rouse the Fountain Spirit in attempt to even the odds. If not, the party will turn and re-engage hopefully taking advantage of surprise.

Hopefully that If/or in the last part will fly. I don't like the connotations to more potential ambushers, or the fact its a mythic level. But hey, everyone is mounted so lets take advantage of that.

Just getting hit doesn't seem to actually do anything unless the Fey can retrieve the skull before we destroy it. Still very dangerous, but not quite a one shot kill.

If we were on open ground and it wasn't dark out, I would favor fleeing. Unfortunately, the terrain is rough and we don't have good light. The mist would obscure us from ranged attacks, but make it even more difficult for us to move at any kind of speed.

Meanwhile, the Chaneque has low-light vision, can fly in order to completely ignore the rough terrain, and has stupidly good Stealth bonus for its CR, especially in a forest like we are at the moment.

The fog is a small radius, 20x20.

Enough to make someone inside hard to shoot, but not enough to make it hard to notice someone leaving.

Its enough to make the first few actions getting out of the fog and getting their orientation. Which might be a better idea in general then a full retreat given low light and the whole trapping souls in skulls thing. Hmmm.
