Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

Okay, that makes me feel better about going with Yahweh option.

IIRC, Yahweh isn't actually considered the "god of the bible" any longer, right? Maybe a prototype "God"? Or am I misremembering something I saw a while back on the History Channel? Forgive my ignorance, I couldn't be any less religious unless I started burning bibles to roast marshmallows on Sunday mornings.

Point is, we're gonna need a name for "God" or people on this planet are gonna get confused whenever it is mentioned in a conversation.

You can just say 'God' in French to avoid confusion, the use of the name was uncommon in the time period Roland is from.

[X] We shall swear, but upon our own god
-[X] "We know not your god in truth and thus would be dishonest to swear in their name, but we do swear upon our Lord in Heaven to keep the peace and not seek out conflict."

This sound good?

@DragonParadox I don't suppose we have a few bibles on board we can share with those curious followers of the local gods so they can understand the ship's beliefs even if they have no interest in converting themselves? Its only fair to share religious beliefs in a civil manner after all.

On another note I hope the local mages have some minor healing magic to help our wounded man, even simple healing spells or items would be well-received.

Zaia might have a bible, he certainly has many books in general, but you would have to ask him about that IC.

I really, really doubt there are spare bibles laying around the ship. Books in the time period we originated from were extremely valuable. That Zaia travels with a lot of books shows a significant investment on his part. If he has a bible, I don't see him parting with it for long.

Of course, someone with an Amanuensis cantrip could make copies of any book in a very short amount of time. Assuming such a person is available and willing to work with us.

That said, we shouldn't be doing any proselytizing here. "God" doesn't have any juice here, as far as we know, while we know there are actual gods who respond to prayers, have worshipers and agendas of their own, etc. We're not here to be missionaries, not when doing so can get us killed in various ways.

When considering what magic you may find in a specific place keep in mind the pervading culture and its likely needs

Amanuensis is a very scholastic sort of cantrip, the sort of thing that would be useful in jobs that take a lot of writing, it is very much a spell for scribes. while this looks to be a decent sized port, it does not look like the sort of place that has a lot of scribes.

Yeah I think it's good to establish ourselves as a bit distant. And I really like what I've seen of Ikomi's flavor so far. A mother who wants her children back in her loving embrace. In the depths of the sea :V (reminds me of the "dark earth" from glorantha kinda)

Making a point about how foreign we are by completely changing the tradition oath seems unnecessary. We can just sub in God where needed without too much trouble.

I mean, what do we gain by making a show of our religious differences here?
Edit: autocorrect

Agreed. Our first meeting with these people is not the time or place to be making an effort to seem even more unusual than we already are.

Zaia has one as per GM, any other books has to be learned IC

What I said is that he may have it with him. It is after all the most common book for any christian to own and Zaia has a lot of books on him by the standards of the day, like two dozen or so.
