[X] A modest amount 100 gp/Encounter or Major healing, or a minimum of 100 gp per month if there are no encounters or need for major healing.

To put it another way to have shares you need three things:
  • An egalitarian mindset, so the loot goes from the battle right into the pockets of everyone rather than going to the captain and from him to those under him
  • A desire for proportional payouts, which pretty much needs a purser or quartermaster to asses the loot and then keep the books
  • The notion that things, like the ship or the fate of the voyage can be split into an arbitrary number of parts, which then dictate how much of the profits you are supposed to have

Whew, finally back home after another family get together. 😵

So even if we don't have any encounters or incidents which need major healing efforts in a month, just being on retainer and earning 100 gp per month for Inge is very good, IMO, especially since she's also getting room, board, education through adventure (not to mention XP), site seeing, exotic friends, getting to hang out with awesome talking horse, etc.

A trained artisan or some other sort of profession, using the Profession skill, wouldn't make nearly that much for a full month of real work, with long hours and potentially exhausting labor. Assuming a really focused 4th level Expert, one with 4 skill points in their profession, the +3 class skill bonus, +3 from a Skill Focus feat, +2 from a relevant related feat, +1 from a fitting trait, and a +2 bonus from Wisdom (being generous here), that totals up to a +15 bonus. That equates to an average of about 13 gp per week over time, or call it 50 gp per month.

Inge is doing quite well for herself.

It should be noted here that going out on a long sea voyage into the unknown carries a risk factor that most craftsmen do not share. If I had to compare her job with anything it would be a soldier who was set to raiding the enemy in the name of their lord. If things go well the worst they have to deal with is strange environs if they do not it's life and death battle

Welp it's unanimous and this is not much of a vote to leave up overnight so vote closed, let's see if I can get the turn vote up for you guys to debate.

Arc 7 Post 2: Swift Waves, Swift Strides
Swift Waves, Swift Strides

Third Day of Ashinu-ezna (Ashinu Ascendant) 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)

"What am I supposed to do with silver?" Inge asks bemused. After a moment she adds: "Don't like wearing it, much... maybe I can make a knife."

"A knife?" Your own tone is not that much more certain. This is not where you had expected things to go when you explained that Antonio was going to pay her from now on. "For what... why?"

"To stab them that's hurt by moon-metal, like Esha's... like the soul-drinker we fought, silver would have cut him through." For all she had hesitated when speaking of the vampire there was no hesitation in her words, nor in her eyes when she talked of stabbing monsters. Not just monsters, you realize with a chill, enemies of Ikomi, those that should be dead and aren't. "Wyrdwood works for the living, but not the dead."

You open your mouth at first to scold her, to say that she has no place facing a foe, face to face, but the words die on your tongue for the trouble of course is that the foe gets his own say in the matter and as dangerous as Inge is from afar on the field of battle you know she is not safe. Perhaps you should train her if you can find the time.

For his part Tom has been getting closer to letting go of the instincts so long drilled into him to hold the line, the shield wall and become the leader you know he can become. The others trust him, they trust his good sense and his judgement, perhaps more than they do yours. Tom after all is not in the habit of doing outlandish things like climbing a mast in the midst of a storm to recover a piece of bound lightning.

There is also much you do not yet know, from the gods and spirits of the land to the far more practical matter of who exactly is captaining the third ship in your small fleet. The deck groans faintly under your feet... perhaps getting to know the spirit of this ship also would not go amiss either, if those with an eye for the unseen are willing to try their hand at contacting it... her.

And done... also half asleep, but I did get that third update up and a decent vote.

Good night guys, see you tomorrow with... *points above* well that is up to you... and the dice. ;)

Hopefully one more round of retraining will be enough for Tom to become a Fighter. We've had the option to help Inge learn self-defense multiple times now, but there was always something more pressing. Now we have the time to actually do it, plus it can't hurt to just spend some time with her.

Learning from Ulk makes good sense, IMO, since we need to know more about our destination, but more importantly, we need to make sure Roland doesn't suffer any social penalties when interacting with the denizens of the White Lands. Neglecting this could have poor results later.

Esha and Inge have already offered insights into Marcella, but Tender would be a new perspective and possibly a better one, since the Stout Folk seem to have a better understanding of spirits in general and maybe beings like Marcella, considering those who claim the Straits of Gibraltar detected her, or their spirit divinations did, from hundreds if not thousands of miles away.

EDIT: Changed to Esha further investigating Marcella. As Tomcost said, it might not be a great idea for Tender and her people to poke that particular sleeping bear when we're already well out to sea. Esha already knows, however, and her new feat might help with this in some way.

And we can't go wrong spending more time with Silver. He's our bro horse, after all.

-[X] Inge's Touch of the Sea spell could also be used to allow him to stretch his legs, or flippers as the case may be, during the trip.

I don't think that it would be wise to set Tender to study the Marcella. After all, they can't exactly leave this ship right now. You wouldn't suddenly ask Nuclear Engineer to suddenly study the Nuclear Reactor hidden in the ship he agreed to travel inside, while freely admitting that you don't know anything.

I support Esha, because there is a reason we chose that Feat to make her better at talking to weird shit from outside this world.

Also considering not leveling Tom here, because I wanna have all our men train with Bills first and so retrain that spear focus.

He didn't gain any progress from his battles?

Inge's reaction to being paid was hilarious, BTW. Poor girl needs to go on a shopping trip when we're next in port to introduce her to the joys of disposable income.

Antonio might have choked on his own tongue if he overheard that conversation with Roland. :p

Good point about Tender. Now that we're at sea, it might not be the best idea to have her poke Marcella, just in case the Stout Folk react poorly to her response. I'll change my vote to Esha. Hopefully her new bonus feat will help with this.

As for Tom, it would be nice to line that all up, but it's going to be months before we get an opportunity to have those weapons made or find somewhere to purchase them. Just the sea voyage to our destination is going to take 3 to 4 weeks, according to DP, then we'll be there for at least a few weeks, then there will be the trip back, plus however long it takes to find suitable weapons. I'd rather have Tom as a level 3 Fighter well before then if at all possible, not only because he'll be a much better combatant, but he'll also be able to make everyone else one as well when he uses Coordinated Maneuvers.

Okay. That's a nice argument. The benefits outweigh the drawback of an extra action spent on him.

Although I wanted lore on Tender's people and religion with that extra action... or to go fishing. I'd like to go fishing actually.

I think that Ripper needs attention (we ignored his quest last turn) and Roland needs de-stress (how was shown in the previous chapter). Although it is very hard to fill last slot, so many choices! Silver, I promise that I'll vote for you next turn! (if we survive untill next turn)

I just realized that Deft Maneuvers also cover Dirty Tricks, and that our men can basically gang up on anyone and impose a fuckton of penalties on them by making them blinded, deafened, sickened, entangled and shaken.

I mean, it only lasts a round, but if for example they manage to cycle blind someone they are effectively evading half his attacks. And then they can start tripping, disarming or whatever else they decide to do.

So we have a near tie between sparring with the Knikut and and spending time with Silver, if anyone who has not voted has horse or neanderthal preferences now would be the time to vote.
