Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

She'll probably need to practice forming eyes first. Assuming she doesn't just already have 360 degree vision or the equivalent to Blindsight.
Is there anything that we could do that would aid her in doing so? For instance, would painting or even carving eyes on the prow/forward vertical beam (don't remember the name, may be part of the keel) help her with that?

I doubt it. Probably best to avoid trying to force her development in any given direction this early on. It wouldn't be a good idea to inadvertently hurt or or limit her capabilities due to our own preconceptions. We're also going to need to know just how much of the ship is Marcella, what can and cannot be considered "normal" wood, and what other components , if any, remain mundane.

For example, do the sails remain sails, or are they fleshy flaps of Aberration skin pretending to be sails? If the mast is broken again, do we need to replace it, or brace it in place while it heals? Etc.

I want a regenerating ship!

Neutral was pretty much the best you could get to start with from a Far Realm touched ship, there is no reason why the dimension of howling madness would start you off with inherent affection.... and plenty for it to be predatory, so like I said lucky roll.

...so you're telling us that the ship could have been a Tsundere Shipgirl and you didn't re-roll when it didn't happen???

For a shame DP, for a shame!

What were the options? When you mentioned howling madness I got thinking of the Man of Medan though I don't think there's much cases of crews going mad from hallucinations yet.

Lucky for me the series did put in a ship character. With a face like that appearing in the front of the ship that has a face that changes when you take your eyes off of it and eyes that move it's going to be unnerving for the crew.

[X] Goldfish

@DragonParadox , I think this should be interlude.

Damn, will change soon

  • [X] Involve the cook, but only if Antonio and Roland agree that the man is likely to be amenable and not to go mad at the revelation of Marcella's nature. Check to see if Marcella can open a mouth in her galley for easy feeding.
-[X] If the cook isn't a viable option, Roland and his companions will handle the care and feeding of Marcella. Even if the cook is willing and able, everyone will still make a point of feeding Marcella tasty morsels when the opportunity presents itself. No harm in establishing a healthy working relationship. Goat bleeding is far from the strangest thing you have done while on the ship, and rats are sadly quite easy to come by in any port you've ever visited.
-[X] We will also make an effort to converse with Marcella if she proves willing. She has much to learn, after all.

Arc 5 Post 17: Fair Servings
Fair Servings

Eleventh Day of Olweje-hamba (Olweje Descending) 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)

"How much do you trust your cook?" the words are almost painfully mundane in the sudden echoing silence of the hold, but speak you must just the same. If there is one thing the last few months have taught you it is how to push past shock and surprise onto the simple necessities. Those do not go anywhere come demon or devil or dead man walking... or in this case the not so simple necessities for that might be the strangest being you have met yet, the one you are still inside of.

You hide a shiver, how well you know not.

Antonio snorts, bravado, or perhaps bravura, he has certainly shown no lack of it of late. "I trust him enough to cook my food, and the judgement was good enough to seem me alive through a mutiny."

"And how strong do you think his stomach is, enough to deal with some goats?" you press.

This time it takes him longer to answer, but in the end he nods and with a smile that starts weak but grows stronger he replies: "Strong enough that he is still cooking for us and not back in Apuku looking for work. Butchery is butchery and the ship is not a devil. At least I damn well hope she is not else the devil owed me a ship and I fear he is slow in paying his dues."

You are the only one to laugh at the outrageous words, almost in spite of yourself, Inge and Esha both daughters of this world and not he one you had left behind, having little understanding of the meaning and scant need for it.

Thankfully the cook does not disappoint once his new duties had been explained to him... and especially once his new pay was negotiated for going 'beyond the duties of a cook alone'. One cannot help but wonder to look at him if he had lost his two front teeth from all the coins he had bitten over the years to see if they were true-cast.

Of course Inge's task is not over, you still have a ailing seer to care for and, once he is mended, Inge has a book to finish translating, or so at least you had thought before Esha draws you aside having put the man to bed. "I think it might be prudent to make sure he does not return to the city..."

"What are you saying?" you ask, horrified.

"I am saying that he has seen things that would likely prompt the Five to order this ship burned to the waterline and then sunk... and to think I worried about how they would deal with the book." She taps her tongue against her teeth in a soft tsk, that sounds all too close to the hiss of a serpent to your ears. "No one will miss him you know, I asked, he has new acquaintances and nothing in the way or kith or kin who would be minded to seek long. The most that might come looking for him are the debt collectors... he really should have taken the coin when he could."

So saying she shakes her head, dark hair flying for a moment before it falls in a curtain about her shoulders once more. "If one of us were to gain a dark reputation than we might take on a glamor or with skill and guile take on mundane disguise, but there is no disguising the ship, if he speaks of what he has seen to others than I fear the civilized folk of Orinilu will react no better than the Knikyt of the straights."

"So you would have us betray and slay a man who trusted us and struck fair bargain?" you ask finding your voice again, aghast, though trying to remain courteous in manner just the same.

"What if I were to tell you he wears about his neck a string of bones taken from the unquiet dead, guards of last resort to be called to his defenses I assume?" The words are plain, and by every sign you can see about her true. Before you can formulate an answer or for that matter another question she continues. "Will you at the very least consider keeping him here until we are ready to depart, that he might not spread ill rumor too soon?"

What d you reply?

[] Agree to keep the seer as your guest until the Marcella is ready to depart

[] The man clearly dabbles in dark magics and you have no need to keep faith with such

[] Keep to your bargain as you have agreed to

[] Write in

OOC: Well late again, but I did manage a second update at least so not a complete loss of the day. Sorry I am so distracted guys. Not yet edited.

I think that it is awfully out of character for Roland to betray this guy.

I mean, even if it is reasonable to do so.

I say that we get a better measure of this guy before he departs. Or at least bathe him in cheap alcohol before letting him get away, so that nobody believes him.

Well it is really late right now so I'll be taking questions in the morning about the update, good night guys.

See you all tomorrow with a spooky Halloween Update... by which I mean it will have pumpkins, all the ghosts and ghouls are standard :V

Adding to this. We helped him do something illegal. He can get us killed, and so we can do the same to him

Figuratively or literally bathe him in cheap booze?

I agree yeah.

Roland is too good of a guy to straight up murder someone because they have an evil artifact, otherwise Esha would be dead too :V

At the same time, I don't think Roland would hesitate to murk this dude if he looks like he's going to rat them out. I'd try to get his measure first and instill into him the consequences of ratting us out (like getting eaten by a hungry ship!) first.

Outright betrayal would be out of character for Roland, but a certain amount of pragmatism is called for in this situation.

This dude knows some pretty heavy shit that could get us in trouble with the local authorities, and vice versa. He's also in debt, though we don't know the full extent of that. It wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination for him to sell us out for coin or as an easy way to eliminate those who know he now has a translated copy of his tome.

[X] When Eriran the Seer recovers from his ordeal and Inge finishes translating his tome, as previously agreed, we will speak with him about his intentions now that he has gained the knowledge he so deeply desired. The goal here is to take Eriran's measure, to get a better understanding of his character and the likelihood he might be willing to betray us now that he knows our secret and we know his. Roland and Antonio will be as diplomatic or intimidating as they feel necessary throughout this exchange.
-[X] Unless Roland and Antonio both fully agree that Eriran won't betray us, we will politely but firmly ask that he remain aboard until we are ready to depart Orinilu, which we will do as soon as we reasonably can. Rather than simply imprisoning him, however, we will instead offer him 250 gold for the inconvenience if he doesn't give us any trouble. In light of his outstanding debts, this should prove a powerful enticement for his continued good behavior.
--[X] Alternatively, if Antonio is willing and we don't judge him a threat to the crew or Marcella, we will offer to transport him to a different city, one where he does not have debt collectors breathing down his neck, or authorities from the local cult of Ikomi scrutinizing him and his proscribed tome.
