[X] Snowfire

I defaut to the winged sword (which is not a cocaine-fueled supervillain nor a dog) in these votes.

By the way, where is Azel? When I read ASWAH, I remember him participating.

  • [X] Plan Of Life, Freedom and the Duties of Lordship
-[X] "And if you had not been brave enough," the word feels odd on your tongue, ascribing that to a woman, yet is she not deserving? "To find your way from that place, then you would have been taken too and none would be any the wiser. Your kingdom would have fallen to those creatures and you would all be their puppets. And given their interest in myself, I doubt I would have had a happier fate to look forward to. Without your warning, I expect they could have stormed this ship before we could escape."
-[X] When she inevitably rejects this as leaving her people to slavery and similar statements of self-martyrdom: "You are correct that it is unlikely that your people will be free without bloodshed. Or without costs. But imagine what might have happened if these anjo-oru had succeeded in taking all within the palace, including you? The kingdom would have fallen in silence, and your neighbours would have had no warning of the danger. And free through bloodshed or not, it is still a chance for your people to know freedom under the Lord's heaven again without being branded warmonger and pact-breakers. You are not to blame for wishing the best of your blood, nor for the devilry that possessed them, unless you wish to tell me that you called those beings yourself and you do not strike me as a caller of monsters."
-[X] I request an abort to vote at this point if she continues, as the nature of her extension will inform Roland's response.
[X] Point out that she is still alive and able to get the truth out to clan heads on Korman fomenting rebellion against demon rule

Arc 3 Post 28: Of Hearts Troubled and True
Of Hearts Troubled and True

Day of Rule Year 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)

"And if you had not been brave enough," the word feels odd on your tongue, ascribing that to a woman, yet is she not deserving? "To find your way from that place, then you would have been taken too and none would be any the wiser. Your kingdom would have fallen to those creatures and you would all be their puppets. And given their interest in myself, I doubt I would have had a happier fate to look forward to. Without your warning, I expect they could have stormed this ship before we could escape."

"If I had not come, they would not have followed," she shakes her head firmly, dismissing any notion that she might have done you a good turn. "I did nothing but flee to the ship I thought most likely to carry me away to some semblance of safety for all the good it will do us in the end."

"I distinctly recall almost being entangled in a brawl with what I later learned were worryingly skilled and cunning foes," you interject. Soft words of comfort will do little good here, you have been down that pit enough times yourself to know that, but reason sometimes works. "Now it could be that those things which had so meticulously planned to gain control of Korman were simply after mindless bloodshed and chaos, but that seems to be unlikely, no matter what their legend tells. They have some plan and they saw me as a threat to that plan, enough of a one to threaten one of their major pawns in the doing. would the guards have necessarily come that night if they had not followed you? No, they likely would have come later and better prepared. Ask yourself what would we have done if there had been longships prepared to give chase? Worses till, what if I an Zaia and Inge perhaps had gone back to the palace to speak to your great-grandmother none the wiser for her passing?"

"I could have tried to rouse the can heads. I could have pretended to have seen nothing and worked to ruin their works from within," Aina sighs then. "If I had the time to think and plan I would have sent instead a letter to Lirman and then more to Clan Garun and Clan Kurn, one skilled in the arts of war and the other knowledgeable of old sagas and bold in battle song. They would have."

You raise a hand. "Stop please, if you had send a messenger, assuming you could find one whom you could trust why is it that they could not be followed even as you are, leaving you trapped in the middle of the whole damned web with no one to turn to. Indeed in the time it might have taken you to find such a messenger and dispatch then the enemy might have been ready to snatch them. You are correct that it is unlikely that your people will be free without bloodshed. Or without costs. But imagine what might have happened if these anjo-oru had succeeded in taking all within the palace, including you? The kingdom would have fallen in silence, and your neighbors would have had no warning of the danger. While you are free you can still send a message back and hope that some may listen, captive there is none. What would to these clans had been word from Lirman alone with naught but a stitch of parchment to support them?"

"For one seeking to raise my spirits you paint a grim picture indeed sir knight..." The last words catch you my surprise for they are spoken in French, she must have heard Tom or one of the others referring to you as such. A good reminder that alone soul weary though she may be, Aina Nabaru is still skilled in the ways of court and trained to rule, or at least to advise a ruler to a degree you never have been.

"I fear I do not make the most cheerful of company," you admit ruefully. Then in a firmer voice you continue: "Free through bloodshed or not, there is still a chance for your people to know freedom under the Lord's heaven again without being branded warmonger and pact-breakers. You are not to blame for wishing the best of your blood, nor for the devilry that possessed them, unless you wish to tell me that you called those beings yourself and you do not strike me as a caller of monsters."

"I am not a monster then, and perhaps less of a coward than I thought myself." A wan smile passes over the princess' expression. "For your kindness you have my thanks, just as for the sanctuary offered. I now regret that I did not offer you a more substantial reward than my own mistaken assumptions two days past when I yet have something to give beyond words on the wind."

"A brave heart and a sharp mind in the face of peril cannot be weighed in gold..." Part of you wants to ask about studying the script of the land for she would surely be a better teacher than Inge, herself a child and with a child's patience, but it seems presumptuous to ask of one of royal blood, exile though she be.

What do you do over the remainder of the journey?

[] Try to study written Anwari (1/5 to Becoming literate)
-[] With Inge and Zaia
-[] With the princess

[] Learn more about the magic and the spirits of this world (May take 1 Rank of Knowledge Arcana, Nature or Planes at the next level up)

[] Continue Training with Tom (3/10 Progress to retraining him)

[] Train against Inge to better learn how to use your new shield (May take feats about countering spell-casters at next level up)

[] Write in

OOC: Some pretty good rolls this time around, obviously you did not turn her feelings completely around, that is just not how people work, but you did give her a bit of an outside perspective. Not yet edited.

All of these options are potentially useful (eventually), but I think we need to keep retraining Tom whenever possible. The sooner he's a Fighter, the better.

[X] Continue Training with Tom (3/10 Progress to retraining him)

[X] Train against Inge to better learn how to use your new shield (May take feats about countering spell-casters at next level up)

What about training Inge with her new dagger?

[X] Train against Inge to better learn how to use your new shield (May take feats about countering spell-casters at next level up)

What about training Inge with her new dagger?
This is one of those options that will be useful a long while from now but won't help us at all in the short or mid-term. There are too many foundational feats that Roland needs before we start specializing and branching into things like anti-magic feats.
