[X] Mission Update: All units, retreat! Trigger, cover them!

I'm with Swordo on that, I don't think anyone else can stand toe to toe with the Ayy-ace here. If we're cold hearted we could leave them as bait and let Trigger focus on just killing it. But we're not Belkan so instead have Trigger do his thing and let the others fall back.

How the hell did I miss this? Oh right. Busy replaying AC7. Fleet Destruction is so cathartic and relaxing.

Also... *flashbacks to Mission 3 and 15* Damn it. Hopefully, we can shoot down Mister Ayy before he rips apart everyone. Else, save as many as we can.

i feel like there's a pattern, but damn if i can figure it out

Well at least you can retool the factories to build super planes with somehow super fast Strangereal industry. That and the majority of drone factories should be intact around Usea. Even without ADF-11, still better to have large amounts of usable fodder at least. Though, you'd think that the data might be hidden off at the ADF-11 home factory just wasn't transmittable.

I mean, do we really want to poke at the AI stuff when that nearly fucked us over in a bad way the last time? Not that cheap drone fodder wouldn't be useful to have.

Anyway, I'm sure there's some other superweapon or superplane project that we can get our hands on... hey, let's just go offer to buy Leasath's superweapons from them, they should still be under construction right now.

CFA-44s are probably also available from Estovakia as a licensed design to build. Most of the superplanes are probably available just not in full mass production. Though, the X-02 and CFA-44 were probably the closest to mass production baring Leaseath's projects. Only prohibited due to cost.

It's that the true super weapons are the bullshit aces that these countries push out.

Technically, Z.O.E.'s data should still be in the Lighthouse right? They never finished transmitting Trigger's and Mihaly's Data, but it should still be there, dormant and waiting. It's only a matter of digging it up again.
That is going to run a very steep cost in Focus to answer.

somebody who can make a tag, please put up "the real superweapons were the friends we made"

also not listed in the above list were the OC superweapons, which I think there are like two?

...Is there a post that tells us how much Focus we have? Or is that not for until after this opening scene concludes?

[X] Mission Update: Rigel, Salamander, Skoll sqaudrons retreat! All remaining units, cover them!

This is going to suck...ace of aces... whelp here's to hoping we win this mission at least and our red-shirts become yellow/blue shirts?

Mission One: Contact, Phase Two
Mission Update

<<
Rigel, Salamander, Skoll Squadrons, retreat! All remaining units, cover them!>>

Count

Count could hear the sound of Trigger's engine flaring across his view, burning after the alien craft. The limping Rigel, Salamander, and Skoll wingmate pairs tried to turn away, but the alien craft was upon them in seconds.

"Like a wolf among sheep," Skoll 1 breathlessly whispered.

Count grit his teeth and pushed forward on the the throttle, as Trigger's orange exhaust inched further ahead.

In front of his eyes, the alien's golden exhaust cut through the formation, at first appearing behind the Salamander's Hornets before looping up and twisting down behind Rigel 2.

Both Trigger and Count were left way out of position to do anything; before Count could so much as slam on the stick, the sickly green pierced through Rigel 2's Mig-29A.

"Did Rigel 2 make it?!" Rigel 1 desperately cried.

"I see a parachute. She made it," Seymour reassured, as the alien craft flew straight into the Fulcrum's fireball.

Count slammed on the airbrakes, while Trigger leapt forward. When the alien craft revealed its new heading, Count was in a slightly better turning position than Trigger, as he tried to pull the nose of his slow Eagle up to match.

The shaking alien craft stopped quivering again, and the deadly green light built up. The line on the radar wasn't pointing at anyone, so -

The line swept out as the alien craft yawed hard, and suddenly Skoll 1 was flying right into the red zone.

"Skoll 1 -!" Skoll 4 shouted into the radio.

The shot through the center of the plane punctuated the shout.

"Skoll 1 - lost," Long Caster announced.

But Count's eyes didn't lie.

"The alien shakes when it comes out of a turn, but it can't shoot before it stops vibrating!" he shouted.

Trigger didn't respond in any way except by flexing his overpowered engines again.

This time, the alien pilot dived sharply, forcing Count and Trigger to slam up on the stick as well; Trigger's vector-manuevered thrusters allowing him to get into position faster than Count's standard nozzles ever would.

Neither plane, however, had anywhere close to the same amount of thrust that the alien craft had, immediately bouncing out of the 80 degree dive into an 80 degree power-climb.

The line on the radar twitches, and Rigel 1 tries to pitch his nose up and away. The shot lances out straight for his exhaust before he can clear the danger zone; the eject handle flies, the cockpit peels away, and Count can just barely see the small flame of the ejection seat pulling out of the Mig-29's fireball as he pulls his plane through the 9 Gs.

For one terrifying second, Count's vision goes entirely black. His Adam's apple rises, nausea suddenly attacks, and when the moment clears the alien craft just pulls hard left enough to break Trigger's perfect position behind it.

"They're too much, I can't get close!" Huxian cries over the radio.

"Then try!" Count snarled, slamming his throttle open.

But to no avail. Mockingly, the golden trail leapt right before going up and then coming down right Salamander 1's flight path.

Salamander 1 immediately banks his plane ninety degrees and pulls the eject lever; the shot pierces clean through the left wing tip to tip, but Salamander 1 has managed to escape unscathed.

"I don't understand!" Wit shouts wetly into the radio. "It spends energy like water! Inefficient movement after inefficient movement! But it's still - "

Finally, however, the alien exposes the slightest of openings. A moment's hesitation, a moment's thought about which target to pick next - and Trigger is already behind the target.

And then the moment was gone, and Count realizes that he had the golden opportunity if he just saw it before it slipped away. Trigger's weaponracks empty of missiles, but two miss as the alien once again pulls an impossible zigzag; only to be caught out again by the two follow-up missiles matching the alien move for move.

The two slam home, but again the alien craft makes use of the fireball to rapidly change direction, shaking wildly and sparking as the airframe looks nearly destroyed.

But it isn't destroyed, and the pilot of the alien aircraft still aims to kill.

The moment of shock and being caught twice allows the alien time to loop back and around, before coming just in the tail of Salamander 4.

Salamander 4 doesn't hesitate in pulling the lever as the line approaches; the bolt lances through the tailfins as Salamander 4 manages to safely pull out, before the Hornet explodes in a massive fireball.

"They're picking us off like flies..." Skoll 4 whispered.

The alien craft vectors in on the final retreating aircraft, but now Trigger knows which plane the target is; there's only so many attack angles the alien can take, so Trigger rides far behind Skoll 4.

The alien craft seems to recognize this, and rolls, dives, and climbs to try and fool them; but Count sees right through it.

Trigger does too, but the alien craft insists on making the final attack run.

As Trigger's missiles clear the rack, the alien craft comes to a complete halt.

Count gasped.

The two missiles impact, and the enemy ace dies without fanfare.

"Mission accomplished, all hostiles eliminated," Long Caster announces.

Mission Accomplished

Debriefing will have to wait for tomorrow; not all of the background work's been completed, so I need a day to finalize it.

In the meanwhile, tell me what you think!

So did we actually win?

Because while we didnt lose to Manitoba pilots this feels like a phyriic victory here...

Also alien aces are bullshit.

I hope we can make our shit better then theirs.

As someone who's never read anything from the perspective of a fighter pilot, this is all very novel to me!

As for winning, so long as our pilots don't die, it's a win. Strangereal has BS manufacturing capabilities, but their wars often cost a lot of manpower. They have more planes than experienced pilots, and the latter is the true scrace resource. It's why Drones and Z.O.E. are such huge gamechangers that a 2nd rate power like Erusea could challenge a Superpower like Osea.

Felt very freaking nervous while reading it.

So Count didn't fire any missile?
Nice. Yes, Count didn't ever get a lock.

If the aliens didn't have their ace, we would've been looking at zero casualties here. If you didn't have Trigger, you might've straight-up lost the entire game in the opening mission.

As is, you got every last one of them while ten out of the twelve pilots that sortied for you are still going to be able to fly, including Jaeger, who will get to see his son again.

it's true that you can count the number of pilots who might've been able to shoot down that ace on two hands and have fingers to spare, though.

also, I probably shouldn't be doing this, but...

i have a VF-02 GUNDAM prepared, in case we ever manage to get that far.
