While I very much see your logic here, it does seem to make a lot of sense to talk to him on the surface of this, there is one issue present.
Namely, the loyalty of the Cabinet Minister. If he lets his kids get away with assisting the suspect, then we can conclude that he may well be in on it, or otherwise unaware of the subject or perhaps uncaring.
He just generally wouldn't be that invested in the case if he (seemingly knowingly, based on the "scolding from their parents" line when talking about the kids in question) lets his kids get away with it.
Therefore, how useful do you think talking to him would be, given all that?
