[X] Go see what Solaire's doing

Well, given that Kirika happens to be: A. Kirika, and B. doesn't seem to understand how she's being disrespectful (probably related to point A.) I suggest we leave Ada be and go see how that sun-obsessed lunatic is doing.

See Kirika, this is why you don't dumpstat Charisma. At least we know what stat to work on when we get around to level up-

Ah. Wait, this is Dark Souls, we can't level Charisma.

Welp, on to less-easy to offend pastures, I suppose.

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to see if we can acquire that miracle. It'd be very useful.

However, I somewhat doubt she'll give it to us right now, so Solaire it is.

Part 22: Sunlight Altar V
[X] Go see what Solaire's doing

You nod your head thoughtfully, remembering Oscar's explanation about miracles and gods. "So it's kinda like that lightning bolt miracle, then. Oh, being able to calm Hollows would be pretty handy, I think." Especially if it can stop you from getting shot every few steps…

Ada scoffs. "No, I've encountered people like you before. Too focused on aggression and violence to truly appreciate the old tales. You wouldn't know what devotion means even if it was spelled out to you like a toddler." Your attempts to retort are silenced by her holding up her hand. "Enough! Remain quite or I suspect you'll only make my opinion of you even lower. Leave me to my work." She shoos you off with an impatient waving of her hand before returning to the Hollows.

You can't help but huff angrily as you step away from the priestess. What a rude person! How can she claim you can't understand being devoted to something?! You understand devotion more than anyone! Damn it, what a single-minded cow!

As you're grumbling entirely reasonable insults to yourself, you notice someone moving about out in the garden. Curious and wanting to get away from that grumpy priestess, you decide to investigate.

The little area hasn't changed much since you arrived yesterday. There are only two Hollows out here now; one sitting on a bench and another standing over by a wall, staring at it intently. Up on the raised section, where the broken statue is, you spot that Solaire guy. He's knelt down in front of the pile of statue in an almost prayer-like manner. He places what looks like a big golden coin down on the block at the statues feet and slowly stands up.

You wander up the stairs and try to peak around him, curious. "Hey, whatcha up to?"

Solaire turns at your voice and replies in a jovial tone. "Ah, good morning! Miss Kirika, I believe? I was merely paying my respects to the Heir of Sunlight. Many have forgotten him, so I feel obliged to make a simple offering whenever I happen across one of his statues, so that I may gleam even a sliver of his sun-ly greatness!"

You stare blankly at him for a moment. "Uh, o… kay? Is this 'Heir of Sunlight' one of the gods? Oh! I think Oscar said sunlight has something to do with a Gween guy or something?"

"Haha, yes indeed! Lord Gwyn is the mighty Lord of sunlight, who bravely sacrificed himself to rekindle the Flame!" Solaire replies, nodding enthusiastically. "The Heir of Sunlight is supposedly Lord Gwyn's firstborn son, a powerful god of war who fought with him against the dragons. Unfortunately, it seems he was erased from history."

"Removed from history…?" you mumble, eyeing the destroyed statue. It definitely looks like a warrior statue, what with the spear. Was it destroyed when he was 'erased from history?' "What did he do? You'd have to do something pretty bad to get erased from history."

"Hmm, unfortunately, I don't know." Solaire admits, tilting his helmet forward slightly in thought. "Perhaps it is something only the gods can comprehend? Even so, the Heir still watches over his devoted warriors: The Warriors of Sunlight!" He throws up his arms in a dramatic Y-shaped gesture and it almost looks cool with the sunlight shining down on him. Too bad it also looks kind of stupid…

Even so, after a moment of this weird stance, Solaire lowers his arms and looks down at you again. "Say, you've humoured me more than most, and we've already made an agreement to help one another. For someone of your age to survive in this land, I suspect you're a great warrior, so would you consider joining the Warriors of Sunlight?"

You raise an eyebrow at the question. "Uh… I have better things to do than go running around trying to 'find a sun' thanks."

Solaire laughs. Hahaha, yes, I'm sure! Do not worry! You see, the Warriors of Sunlight aren't so much a single group, as much as just a number of likeminded fellows seeking to help and receive help! We are united only in our desire for jolly cooperation! Hahaha!"

Haha, silly Kirika. Calling the Warriors of Sunlight stoopid. Did you, perhaps, forget that you're at our command, as the quest voters?

[] What a waste of time. Go and fall off a cliff.

And now we force her to be FRIENDLY and HELPFUL to people as a sunbro. The perfect revenge for insulting Best Covenant.

Imagine Oriko's reaction when Kirika do the sun worship to her!

Lol this is great. The Sunbros have a minimum faith requirement to join in Ds1, so Solaire recognizing Kirika having it right after the priestess tells her off is highly amusing.

Clearly he just recognizes that we've been Sun-broing the ENTIRE game so far with Oscar. Truly, a dedicated path that has brought the requirement down from 25 faith to... 7, apparently. We have 7 faith.

That's even lower than I expected on checking lol

Unfortunately, the Sunbro covenant only reduces the Faith requirements by 5 for each boss fight, and thus our adventures with Oscar don't qualify for more than a reduction to 15. However, you see, Kirika's character sheet has SL ??? for a reason.

The standard Dark Souls Faith stat should be more accurately represented as Faith (Light) or Faith(Dark), and the strong ties between these two beliefs means that devotees to one can use the miracles of the other due to the shared mythology. This stat is understandably low for us, as we have only just arrived in this land.

In our case, we invested 99 levels in Faith (Oriko), a hidden stat that's incompatible with standard Lordran miracles.

While you definitely don't have time to do anything other than search for Oriko, you can't help but give in to the jolly knight's enthusiasm. Thinking about it, he seems pretty eager to help people, and anyone who's trying to 'find their own sun' probably isn't all there anyway. It probably wouldn't take much to manipulate him into doing some of your dirty work.

You chuckle to yourself. Oriko would be proud.

"Alright, I guess I might as well." You finally reply with a nonchalant shrug. "So how does this work? Do I need to do some big ceremony or something?"

Solaire laughs at your question. "Hahaha, no, no, nothing so grand as that! Just stay still a moment…" Reaching down to his hip, he retrieves that bundle of rags he used to create the lightning bolt and holds it out in front of you. After a moment, it begins to glow a bright golden and, in the glow, a big coin like the one he placed on the statue materialises in his free hand.

"There we are." He says, lowering the rags and offering you the coin. "Now, just offer this coin to the Altar of Sunlight and say a little prayer. After that, you'll have the eye of the Heir of Sunlight and know the brilliance of our Sun!"

While all this mumbo-jumbo about suns doesn't really make much sense to you, you do as Solaire says. Let's see, how do people in the West pray? They kneel down and close their eyes or something, right? Place the coin and give a prayer… Uh, a prayer, a prayer… How about 'give me the strength to find Oriko.' That's something like a prayer, right?

The moment you decide on a prayer, you feel a strange warmth fill your body. When you open your eyes, the world seems just a little bit brighter than before.

As you stand, Solaire laughs again. "Haha, Exhilarating, is it not? I knew we were kindred spirits! Each of us seeking our own sun!"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up." You exclaim, holding up your hands to stem his excitement. "I already told you I'm not looking for 'my own sun.' I've got other things to do."

"Ah, but I can tell. You search for something important to you." Solaire replies in a knowing tone. "Something so brilliant that it's radiance is akin to the sun shining in the sky above us!"

You stare at him for a moment, processing what he's saying. After a bit, you look up at the sun, then retrieve the shard of Oriko's soul gem from your pocket. Something akin to a brilliant sun, huh…? You can't help but chuckle. Yeah, maybe he's right. Maybe you are searching for a sun, in your own way.

You look back up at Solaire and think that maybe this strange knight isn't as weird as you first thought.

"Alright," you say, returning the shard to your pocket "so is there anything I actually need to do as a part of the 'Warriors of Sunlight' or is it kind of just for show?"

"Nothing in particular." Solaire replies. "Merely think of it as an agreement to aid one another in their search for their sun, whatever that may be. Call upon me whenever you need assistance, and I shall do the same."

You feel the warmth within you and can't help but smile. It seems you've made a friend. Not like the for-show friends you pretended to have at school, but an actual, legitimate friend. Maybe this Warriors of Sunlight thing isn't as silly as you first thought.

*Joined the Warriors of Sunlight*

"Ah, one other thing." Solaire adds, bringing his hand up to the chin part of his helmet. "A request, of sorts. I mentioned before that I don't know why our radiant Heir of Sunlight was erased from the histories. Upon arriving in Lordran, I've thought: what better place to discover the reason than the city at the foot of the gods? Of course, I shall continue to worship his radiance nonetheless, but if you happen to learn the truth on your journey, could you by chance share it with me?"

You shrug and nod your head. "Uh, sure, I guess? As long as it doesn't get in the way of my search for Oriko."

"Haha! Marvellous!" He exclaims, placing his hand on your shoulder. "I shall of course share it with you as well, if I learn of it first! Let us together try to discover the truth behind the gods' shunning of the Sun!"

"Excuse me, but please do not antagonise the Hollows of this shrine." An unfemale voice says.
Ada growls quietly. "Child, I have been patient with your insolence thus far, but if you don't start showing some respect, I shall expel you and your companion without any of my offered provisions."

Well, I don't know what the best option is here, I'll figure something out later, but I've a sneaking suspicion as to which one it isn't, that's for sure.

As nice as talking with Sun-bro is it's not getting us any closer to Oriko, I reckon it's time we grab our traveling companion and hit the road.
