A World Turned Upside Down - A Military R&D Quest

I know what we must do- we must make a weapon to surpass nukes, we must make METAL GEAR.

Joke aside, oh dear, the fires are lit, the real question is if we are able to rush things out fast enough to hold the air should things ignite. I find it infinitely funny that the Soviets are going back to back with America at the moment, and kinda want to see that continue. I just like the idea

[X] Advanced EWAR Equipment - By purchasing advanced EWAR assets, we can improve the ability of our forces to handle precision munitions being deployed against our own facilities. While they will be of limited utility against nuclear weapons, they do provide a tiny improvement. *$200 million. Max of x1.*

EWAR is mandatory at the moment, as the chance, however low, to just disable nukes in the air is always a good thing. Anti-air follows as that gives us a wider net to cast out, and Experiemental robotics would give us machines to trawl through radiation hellscapes. METAL GEAR? What, I dunno what you're talking about :V

While I feel it's very likely that loss of contact with the government or a central command would result in our PMCs taking over and having us design new toys for them in the name of "survival" in a postapocalyptic world, id be fine with it so long as we get to keep making toys. :V

Also kudos to the dashing special ops for their final stand. Shame no one will live on that soil for a while..

There is actually a Danish special forces team still alive in Northern Germany. They've rolled ... well to say he least. It's just they're now the last Danish citizens alive.

I know what we must do- we must make a weapon to surpass nukes, we must make METAL GEAR.

You joke, but this was actually something that the EAC has spent money on. Their consensus was that they needed to have some more advanced tech before it could work.

So there's a chance for us to destroy the corps by making them dig their own graves

To an extent they just have. Essentially they overreached this year in regards to trying to gain further control of the country by targetting the military at a rather inappropriate time. As a result, there's going to be some backlash against them.

Edit: This may or may not be a good thing.

Asher: "Alright, seems like we're playing the 'I want to remain on the fence' card then. Well, can I expect future purchases of Goliaths?"

Dugan: "I'll sign the forms right here if I must, the nation hopes to order 400 platforms over the next century."

Asher: "Well-"

Secret Service Agent: "Mr. Vice President, we need to go, now!"

Dugan: "I'm sure -."

*Sounds afterward indicate Secret Service Agents physically drag Vice President Dugan to a readied vehicle.*

Secret Service Agent: "We have confirmed launch signatures."

Asher: "...oh fuck me."
When I read this, my heart fell into the pit of my stomach, for a minute there I thought we were too slow getting the Goliaths operational..

Was a definite warning shot to the end of the world as we knew it. Still sucks how comparatively small our nuclear bunker is, and how open we've made it to be subvertible by the government.

2038 External Report - Police Clashes Across Central America Spread

Tensions between corporate and governmental police agencies only increased since the violent clashes last year. Over the course of 2038, there was a rapid escalation of such clashes beginning in Nicaragua. Starting with infantry-level engagements, before escalating to vehicular clashes, and finally ending with corporate aircraft running into the local police's SAM systems, it's clear that the government has lost its monopoly on force at the local level. However, in a surprising twist, it seems that the government police forces' actions have served to galvanize the population in support, leading to these clashes spreading throughout Central America before the large-scale riots began.

"People are calling this worse than the Grey Scare in Argentina or the Civil Rights Riots of the 80s in the American South. The government spent a lot of time encouraging a pro-police mentality across the UA building up for the inevitable anarchy and chaos following the bombs dropping. Then again, a lot of people likely just hate the corps security teams." - Arthur

2038 External Report - Riots Break Out Across the Nation

Over 70% of the population viewed the mega-corps unfavorably at the start of 2038. That number is now over 95% following the recent MAD scare. Primarily a result of corporate sabotage of the military in an attempt to break up the government's control of the nation further, this has resulted in massive protests against the corporate overlords. While this would have been notable on its own, it seems that corporate attempts at censoring parts of the Internet surprisingly failed.

"Horseshit, I'm sure the government was involved in this." - Arthur

This in turn allowed widespread videos of corporate security beating down protestors to spread. This then caused government police forces to respond violently, leading to a rapid escalation on both sides which has thus far resulted in 20 thousand dead in under a month. The streets of some towns now run red with blood.

"Couple of my buddies at OSI and some contacts at the CIA and the local police and criminal elements back in Brazil are telling me the same thing: 'The government is behind this. The people know, they do not care.'" - Arthur

Addendum: It should be noted that most major UA media networks are owned by corporations. Social media is also heavily influenced by "unbiased" third parties. The elements that were putting all these videos and leaks out on the net were likely a combination of hackers, free journalists, and your general spook. - Arthur

2038 External Report - Angry Mob Lynches Corporate Executives

During the violence, which is still ongoing, three major corporations saw their headquarters breached by angry, violent mobs. After having seen other protestors killed in their efforts to do so, they were not feeling merciful. What followed were the lynchings of all higher-level executives of Berneck Industrial Incorporated, the corporation that controls 40% of Brazil's mines and conducts 98% of logging in South America. This has caused the corporation to break up and has led to the riots being emboldened. In the immediate aftermath, two other corporations were also subject to the same fate, with a corporation that maintains highways in Canada, and a corporation that provides the Southern US with healthcare being subject to gruesome and violent ends.

The UA Congress has responded by denouncing the riots and has begun drafting comprehensive legislation to prevent them from escalating further and to punish the perpetrators. It should be noted that while the Dugan administration was formed from populists, Congress itself is filled with corporate lackeys. As a result, the people expect the UA government to turn against them, but some say that there are parts of the government working to prevent this fate.

"I might need to leave this position for a bit. If you want a better idea of what is going on, I need to go to Washington. Something big is going down. Entire teams are intentionally going dark." - Arthur

Addendum: Dugan is using this whole event as a platform for the populists. He's using the same old tried and true rallying call about draining the swamp and kicking out all the fat cats. Naturally, he'll keep any corporate element that swears "fealty" to him in the new administration.

2038 External Report - [REDACTED REPORT ON REAPER COMPANY ALPHA]

Due to intense anti-corporate sentiment boiling over, the CIA authorized the release of funds and weapons to several anti-corporate extremists across the nation and beyond. This resulted in widespread violence and a weakening of corporate power in the nation which the Dugan Administration used to order the nationalization of Clear Skies. While unexpected, this served to assist Project HADES' end goals, allowing for resources to be diverted from combatting the mega-corp to other areas. However, Clear Skies showed signs that they would resist, through violence, lobbying, and purging their servers. As such, Project HADES authorized the deployment of [REAPER COMPANY ALPHA].

2038 External Report - Massive Unrest Crashes the Economy

The violence over the last month has had many effects across the world. Due in part to the deteriorating international situation in Italy but mostly the collapsing economic situation, the United American economy has fallen 17.8% over the last month. This has not actually resulted in decreased wages or increased unemployment, however, primarily due to the loss of wealth being most prominent among the wealthy. It has however caused interest rates to rise significantly, with mortgages increasing from 12% to 18%, with little signs of slowing.

Furthermore, the United American democracy index has also fallen from 6.5 to 6, classifying the nation as a hybrid regime instead of a flawed democracy. This has been met with approval from corporations who cite it as a sign that the violence is tearing apart the nation, while the average citizen thinks of it as a sign that the index itself is flawed and bought out by corporations. There are also a wide variety of other effects as well, but to list them all would take months and multiple degrees.

"Democracy indexes are a precarious thing. I wouldn't really focus on the numbers when you should on the people in charge now. The economy taking a nose dive has resulted in the government trying to determine the next course of action, which is likely going to be a lot of expensive bailouts." - Arthur

So what the fuck is going on in Washington, Mexico City, Ottawa, and the other cities that hold the administrative organs of the UA? I take it everyone tries to get the alphabet agencies and departments to make a direct call on what Congress just said.

Also, how much fucking money did the UA just lose in one month?

For that, there's a few fun things happenning in those cities. Namely that the National Guard has been deployed in Washington. Mexico has deployed its special forces in Mexico City. Ottawa has multiple Canadian regiments now stationed at the ready, as do most other countries. Notably, these groups are among the more anti-corporate units present, which has resulted in some creative interpretations of orders at times when it comes to protecting citizens.

"Eh, the corporates can take it, don't see why we should do something about this." vs "We can't have that, deploying artillery in the city? Hell no."

As for how much UA just lost. Your GDP was 73 trillion before this. It's now 60 trillion.
