A World Turned Upside Down - A Military R&D Quest

[X] Plan Can't go small now
-[X] Fairbanks, Alaska - A city close enough for easy transit with Innovation Institute's main campus, it draws upon existing connections and ensures centralization of knowledge for when the bombs fall.
-[X] Medium - Enough to train a thousand technicians a year, this would require substantially more space and construction, but could be done in parallel to the initial graduating class. *3-Year Construction Time*

No one expected the Kalmar Union to understand how screwed they were and, rather than going bloodily but relatively peacefully into the night
I mean, consider the following line from the update
Current expectations indicate a total of three nuclear bombs being dropped on the union, followed by a three-month-long war against conventional forces that transitions into multiple genocides.
My guess is that they knew exactly what the 3 invaders were planning, and if everyone there is dying anyways, why not make the after effects as bad as possible for everyone else?

If you'd take another look over what I wrote, you'll see that the 'no one' in the part you quoted was specifically talking about the Major Powers that make up the rest of the world who were the ones that decided dismantling the Kalmar Union would be a 'risk free way of temporarily lowering tensions'. And the Kalmar Union said: "I'll be taking those wagers now..."

-[X] Small - Enough to train a graduating class of 500 technicians, this would be the simplest to construct, but would also require additional expansions should more facilities be desired. *2-Year Construction Time*

Alright, I'll be calling the vote here. Looks like you're going with Fairbanks and a small facility.

Also, I can in fact confirm that the Kalmar Union has been putting up a far, far harder fight than people were expecting.

2038 External Report - Italian Concentration Camps Face Mass Partisans

After three months of fighting, the Danes remain an independent nation. While Italian infantry was able to seize multiple cities, mass partisan activity forced reserve forces to be deployed in occupied territory. Primarily a result of the fascist regime's horrific policies, the partisan activity was merely extreme at first, with roughly a third of the Danish population actively assisting guerilla movements. This changed once the Italians began to operate concentration camps, resulting in an estimated 98% of Danish citizens actively participating in guerilla operations in some form. Due to this, Italian forces detonated two nuclear weapons in an effort to continue their advance, which has only achieved incremental gains even then. At this time, the city of Herning remains under siege, while the Italians are preparing amphibious landings for other parts of Denmark.

"The Pentagon is calling this a disaster and fits into the simulations they had involving the EAC invading Japan, except a lot worse. Speaking from personal experience during my time in Denmark? This will not end well. Remember: I've been with the company for over 20 years now! Half of which was in Denmark!" - Arthur

2038 External Report - Soviet Forces Halted Despite Chemical Weapon Deployment

Soviet forces were initially able to achieve massive gains against Sweden. Assisted in part by the lower population density, the mass infantry and tank waves were able to clear out ambushes via simple numerical advantages. While information on this push was scarce, atmospheric readings have indicated that there was a minor deployment of chemical weapons during this time. However, the Soviet forces were halted at Uppsala and the outskirts of Stockholm in large part due to concentrated Swedish armor and artillery. Due to the surprising level of skill demonstrated by the Swedish air force, and high levels of coordination between militia forces, the Soviets have been forced to continuously attempt sweeping assaults across large fronts. This degraded their forces over the long march, and when forced to fight in an urban battlefield, they proved insufficient. At this time, the Red Army has switched tactics. Now it has begun to bring forth heavier artillery and has begun indiscriminate bombardment of the Swedish capital. Time will tell if this succeeds.

2038 External Report - British Bombardment Less Effective than Expected

Initially, the British expected to need only two months of bombardment before being able to conduct an amphibious landing on Norway. Three months later, and 4 tactical nuclear artillery rounds expended, this has been revised to six months of bombardment. The primary issue thus far seems to be the fact that Norway considers this to be a genocidal war. Which … is not incorrect. This fact has resulted in the Norwegians nationalizing the entire economy and conscripting every citizen into the military and MIC. Compounding the issue has been their native industry, which was designed for tolerance against active bombardment and naval blockades. As a result, their industry and warfighting capability have remained strong.

2038 Internal Report - Trade School Construction

Ground has broken in Fairbanks on the trade school. Expected to complete construction in 2041, a number of portables have been rented in order to begin some degree of technician training. This has had limited impact, as the number of trainees, while average, is highly limited. Furthermore, instruction has been hamstrung by limited space, teachers, and equipment. All of this is slowly improving, but it is clear that it will take until 2041 for our drone production facilities to be adequately staffed.

[] Accept the delay till 2041, ensuring all drones remain high quality
[] Begin production in 2040, accepting lower quality drone production for 1-2 years
[] Attempt to poach staff from select facilities (locks action in 2039)
[] Write-in

2038 External Report - Election

The President of the United Americas has begun campaigning for the midterm elections. Primarily touting anti-corporate sentiment, but nearly entirely ineffective at passing legislation, the populist president has been trying to get some level of control over the legislative bodies. While polls indicate a mere 7% number of votes for his populist party, with 93% of the vote going to parties heavily influenced by corporations, it is nonetheless surprising. Moreover, Vice President Dugan has extended a request to Innovation Institute, asking for a ceremonial flight of the Goliath. While it is under construction, a 1/5th scale model could be used to demonstrate some of the engineering challenges that were overcome. At the same time, it would make us a target for corporate politicians. Well, more so than we already are.

[] Agree to the ceremonial flight
[] Reject the ceremonial flight
