A Song of Pride and Magic: A Grindelwald Quest (HP/ASOIAF)

[X] 281 AC, The Year of the False Spring. The Mad King reigns, in the midst of the Tourney of Harrenhal. This is the eve of the Targaryen dynasty, where the seeds of the Rebellion take root.

@Paradosi what is your stance on the spells Grindelwald knows?

Or what I mean to ask is, are there any spells that you are going to be outright denying us use of?

No real restrictions as long as it adheres to HP canon(no fanon spells), though Grindelwald is more than capable of spell creation.

Honestly, in a straight up fight, there's no one in ASOIAF that can even tango with him. The real threat to you guys won't be up front and in your face, but more subtle. Magic is reality hax, but it's not omniscience.

The most important thing to do it is set up a shit ton of wards to protect us in our sleep and from poison and the like.

Honestly, though, I wonder if we can replace the King. I mean, Robert did it on nothing more then martial might, charisma, and some connections. We have the first well in the bag, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if wrote could create an army killer, the second is probably doable, and the last only requires a few imperios.

Speaking of which, Imperioing the Mad King may be in our best interest.

I've never had a GM that let us do this before so let me get pretty damn specific.

when I am talking about banned spells what I am really asking about are some of the most OP spells in harry potter canon.

The Fiendfyre curse
The Fidelius charm
The Hour-Reversal Charm

No Harry Potter quest I have ever played has let us have access to the more....esoteric Harry Potter magic.

It fits with who he is that he would know this stuff but are you saying that you are willing to let us have it?

King Aerys will make Grindelwald look like a kind, sane man to rally around. ^_^

You will certainly have the option to do so. Grindelwald would probably get bored of ruling medieval muggles though, even if he's rather talented at mediating conflicts(trying to corral egotistical sycophants who think they're badass dark wizards around is great practice).

You guys will have to manage Grindelwald's legit fetish for magic though, he's going to gravitate to places of power and magic on Planetos, especially if he can feasibly get his hands on it, if only for the novelty. :p

Fiendfyre for sure, he's Grindelwald after all. Though note, Fiendfyre is no joke, if you're going to whip that out, friendly fire(oh the puns) is a legit concern. Grindewald's no Crabbe, he knows fiendfyre has its uses, but it's not his go-to spell(there's a ton of other fucked up curses he knows that are far easier to control).

Fidelius also yes, though that would require pure and honest trust(it's soul magic). Hour-Reversal is feasible, but without a time-turner you'd be exposed to so much timey-wimey bullshit that even Grindelwald wouldn't risk it unless absolutely necessary.

for a time-turner a vessle is needed in which to contain the spell (In this case an enchanted hourglass)

the hourglass itself can be easily bought or transfigured would it then be within his abilities to provide the necessary enchantments?

It's not Grindelwald's forte, but he knows the theory. Would require quite a bit of trial and error, but certainly feasible.

Wards don't work I'm like that in. HP usniverse that's a fanon concept

I'm pleasantly surprised at all the interest the Rebellion arc/vote is getting, personally thought more would prefer a quest closer to the series.

I suspect most people are interested in Grindelwald meeting the Mad King and the hilarity/tragedy that would ensue. :p

If you're referring to that whole bit about Nurmengard, think of "ward" more as slang than the fanon concept. Nurmengard's overbearing presence is the result of Grindelwald's creative(ie pretty fucked up) use of Charms with a sprinkling of the Dark Arts. Akin to the Anti-Apparition Charm/Jinx, or to the more esoteric Fidelius/Blood "Wards".
