As @Rihaku said, we really should consolidate into one vote for opposing Avenger, and Preeminence is only three votes behind as of this post. It's still safer than just spending 2 Arete for honing while still being fully compliant with the long-term plans of the thread; it's a great compromise option. No need to risk safety when we can get this much power while still applying yourself to the future!

Given the enthusiasm for Ruling Ring, I think most people would be okay with getting Passion anyway. So why not get it now to rid ourselves of this situation. Zero waste while being safe! No need for an awkward H-DS, less ranged options or Form of Rage come again, just put it on the safe investment! If everyone's okay with it, why not consolidate around it?
Huh. So Rank stands a chance after all, conditional on HDS. What a strange feeling.
Depressing to me, after so many words devoted against it...

[X] The Ring of Power - Dominion - 2 Arete
[X] The Ring of Power - Preeminence - 7 Arete
[X] The Ring of Power - Hateful Might
[X]Treachery

Sure, including Treachery to compensate for relative riskiness of this vote is a good idea.

Don't produce enough Arete

drop dead

how anticlimactic

Fiiiiiiiiiiine.

I'm sure the thread will end up skipping Ruling Ring again, anyway.

Hateful Might seems like something that could be surprisingly good down the line. I didn't take it at first because I'm banking on being able to convince him. My preferred build if Arete wasn't a concern would probably be Double Passion plus Exalted Spirit, but that is costly. This will do in a pinch though.

Can I just ask why people are against Avenger? I mean for those voting for the Hateful Might build, just remember that while Hunger might win, that there is also a high chance of a truly nasty complication up to losing an Artifact. Why are people risking it now to pick Ruling Ring component achievements when we won't take it until after an Evening Sky EFB?

Mhm. My problem with hateful Might build is that it has the lowest chances of success against Sten from what I understood compared to the other plans. Now, we might not need to fight if we go with treachery, but our success is by no means guaranteed and we might end up fighting anyway. So I would prefer not to take chances at this point, especially with our Ring separated from us.

Yeah as another said my preferred build would likely substitute Hateful Might for Exalted Spirit if we had sufficient arete as I feel it would combo wonderfully, and the value of -heartlessness could be substantial given we mainly view things from Hunger's perspective and may not see how that stat is affecting him.

I'm personally okay with any option as long as it makes us win, I just happen to think that this is a really really efficient way to get to it. Hateful Might makes diplomacy the easiest by weakening his already sinking mental state, and all our actions related to Passion (and since we are currently very passionate, all of them) will get a rank buff. Also, +All Stats is pretty useful too.

"The Hateful Might build doesn't guarantee victory, though it's pretty likely." is what he says, I believe. Other options have better odds, but I'm content with pretty likely, since we're also trying diplomacy with it, not just combat through stats.

All our Ringbuffs are about to fade. Quickening, Vigor, rankboost, etc. It is all going to be gone, our DoT damage overtime is already disabled - with time limits like that, is it really the time to attempt diplomacy?

Yes! Check out the stuff from Evangeline's blurb:

*By slaying her quickly, you'll still have to deal with Stenallon, but his mental instability looms large without her assistance
*Once she's dead, you may be able to direct Stenallon's wrath against his compatriots, or even persuade him to give up and accept judgement for the torment he's perpetrated.

We capitalize on his passions and his mental instability. This is clearly a viable option, and in fact might be more useful in getting our arm back! Beyond that, he already doesn't wanna chain up the ring anymore, so let's just get him to let go!

Avenger double our numerical stats(so we basically become three times more powerful) and consider all our "attacks" as critical hits so its triple effectiveness even when its a social attack. It doesn't matter which method wins when Avenger applies.

Also remember that Hateful Might works off from Passion. If you are worried about Avenger being inconsistent, Hateful Might is also one too.

Not to mention basing the diplomacy on Ring based picks so they'll be fading too.

Considering how we're doing with the blood buffs on, if we don't manage to get our ring back which I think is far from a impossible task considering we have Edeldross plus we're still faster then Sten or beat him by the time it fades I don't think even Avenger would save us.

Frankly, if we're worried about it fading out, we should be picking Headsman! I've long accepted that bladewinds are too cool to give up, but at least Hateful Might is cool!

Also, the difference between social attacks from Avenger and social attacks from the Passion build is simple: social hits from Avenger that land are buffed, but Passion makes social hits easier to land! Beyond that, it's unclear if the tripled effectiveness outweighs the modifier from Rank and +All Stats! If it does, it's probably marginal!

edited vote to include treachery:

[X] The Ring of Power - Dominion - 2 Arete
[X] The Ring of Power - Preeminence - 7 Arete
[X] The Ring of Power - Hateful Might
[X] Treachery

Also it allows us to just straight up bypass his physical durability, and injuries to his soul might end up weakening his will or Soul Evocation.

We are slightly faster than him without the results of this build vote. If Avenger wins ours stats skyrockets and we gain critical hits in every attack. Just Cut Through him in the Age method or if Treachery wins critical social attack against his fragile mind means he is done for.
