Question @Rihaku: if time is such a concern... could Hunger just decide to go kill the Rotbeast itself? Rather than spending an entire day hunting down Primary Rotspawn? Surely a single boss fight with a giant monster, Shadow of the Colossus style, would be faster than a whole day of clearing out trash mobs, no?

Yes, Hunger had previously not wanted to go after the Rotbeast because he wasn't sure of the benefit, or how tough the fight would be... but now? With an extra day on the line? Well, that's much more attractive and tempting an option, right?

Its Rank is probably why we can't get to it easily. If it can bend causality to put things you want into your path, it can probably do the opposite too.

[X] Evening Sky: Shadowlord

Well I am pretty sure I am obligated to vote for this because of how much I love Astral Aves and how closely in aesthetic this matches the stuff from that comic (what It does aside since it is stealth and that only kinda maybe is a feature of shadow magic in Astral Aves if you turn your head and quint, theft matches more closely but really shadow magic is about secrets, exchange, and effectingchange on one side to effect change on another, also making friends with eldritch or rather ethereal entities from another world who are just as confounded and perhaps afraid of you as you are of it). Still having a shadow star night cloak is amazing.

I may change later as I amnpretty sure that dross adept is better in general if not quite as immediately powerful or suited to our situation, and it is cheaper too.

Huh, didn't expect infiltration to make such a strong comeback, that's what I get for being busy and then passing out! At least the winning options are synergistic and unlocked an interesting Evening Sky upgrade. Time to reread the update more carefully, but first:

Least Curses

The travails of those burdened with the Apocryphal Curse - that terrible malediction to which nations and heroes alike are but arrows awaiting the archer's hand - are enshrined as legend in the omniversal Cursebearer community. The likes of Slumber and Martyrdom are also well-known; one ambitious Cursebearer recently founded a resort, promising an advertising-free environment, hyperbolic time chambers to sleep away the Affliction, and a cornucopia of conveniences and pleasures that would shatter the mind of any being not protected through NaN transfinite escalations of cardinality! This puts him in direct competition with CursedLand, though, so they're taking bets on how long he's got to live.

Moving on! Rivals trade hero horror stories as they pass like ships in the night navigating the eons-long strait of Indenture, warning one another of those mad enough to take Culling. Bearers of other Lesser Curses naturally congregate as well. The Mutilated fund prosthetics research, those with the Brand of the Chaste gather in brotherly solidarity to share mental alterations. But there is a terrible secret known to few members of this cosmic club, too dark and shameful to be spoken of: the existence of Least Curses. Cursebearers are invited to take these in bulk for Favor, because they're sure as hell* not getting Remittance Value for them!

{ } Doom of the Phoneposter - You categorically refuse to use any device with a screen size of more than six inches. The cellular virtues of portability and convenience shine in your mind's eye as clear and abject truth. No matter how many times you screw up the BBCode or highlight the wrong text, no matter how long it takes you to craft the simplest of posts or how much hair you tear from your head, you refuse to change your ways. Furthermore, you will be reluctant to upgrade your phone, descending into laughable levels of delusion as it degrades toward unusability. "It's fine," you'll say, "the cracks just add character!" But it will not be fine. With extensive mitigation, you may one day touch a tablet again.

{ } Affliction of Typos - In every post you make, there will be at least one typo. Regardless of attempts to proofread before posting, you will never find it before submitting. The shame will sink in hours later as you look back on your words and, realizing the magnitude of your mistakes, scramble to correct them. Misplaced punctuation, mistaking there for their... how could you have been so stupid! But this is the kindest outcome, for others will feel an increased urge to correct your typos. There words will always pierce you to the core.

{ } Brand of the Brined - In moderation, salt is a delicious condiment. In excess, it's the death of reason, a scourge that lays waste to forums. Users who interact regularly with you through an electronic medium become steadily more irritable. Grievances will calcify, curtness blossom into full-grown incivility, until tolerance is a distant memory and even the most level-headed posters' jimmies rustle as though in a Category 5 hurricane. No particular hostility is directed at the Branded, though this is cold comfort. Once these Carthaginian salt levels have been reached, recusal is your only recourse.

{ } The Geas of Omakes - Everyone deserves a little extra, and you've been conscripted to provide it. You are unable to make a single comment without also appending an omake or fanwork of some kind. Length and quality of the work increase the amount of commentary that can be included alongside it. Some Cursebearers question any categorization scheme that deems this a Least Curse, but there are numerous ways to stretch the definition of an omake. With minimal mitigation this Curse can be circumvented by speaking entirely in rhyming couplets, but as always you should be careful not replace a Curse with another of your own invention.

*Hell is not very sure for Cursebearers. Entities that purport themselves to be the Devil do not desire attention from the Accursed or his implements.

682 words of... I don't even know what to call this.

The thing is, if we were a true solo Shadowlord would be a lock, but we're not, we have party members, dependents, that harshly limits the viability of stealth long term, it cant be core to our build because to use it effectively we would have to split the party.

I don't think I need to explain why that strategy has problems, particularly with our cures load out.

And if we cant use stealth as a first or second option, then it's not worth 7 Arete, especially now, when every point is precious.

{ } Affliction of Typos

O O F

Too bad I'm too poor to subscribe to Orm's Typo Corrections because I sure as hell need the help! Looking back on my previous posts inevitably makes me see all the times typos completely undercut my arguments and how my "editting" process leaves random half finished thoughts just out there for everyone to see.

The Rotbeast is the size of a whole mountain range, Hunger doesn't know how long it'll take to kill it.

Well, it's a matter of lateral expansion vs sticking to your mage/warrior build!

Damn, this is probalby the best of the lot though.

Eh, with Gisena's technological proficiency and Letrizia's Armament, there certainly could be many situations where Hunger ventures into an area alone, leaving them behind in a safe domain.

The reason I'm not fond of a social strat here is because it seems like it cedes way to much of the initiative to the opposition without much recourse. Say we go in and try to turn coat, and they say "Sure thing. The complementary inner layer package you qualify for comes with immortality, x amount of yearly production units from the ring, and a partridge in a pear tree. Just one catch, you have to rest in our intake mansion for a month while we get the paperwork processed, don't worry it's got all the amenities a high tier reality warper could provide so you won't be bored."

What is our recourse in a situation like that or similar? We basically just have to go loud but from an immensely disadvantaged position. That's why I prefer stealth, even if we get busted if we can make a kill first that could heavily equalize the odds. If we do go social though I think we need to maximize it as much as we can, either full Cha of Vigor to run over whoever our greeter is. Or the Rank+mental stats of Ring+Spirit to bank on Rank assisted luck+Scheming to make it work out.

I said I was done arguing for the Evening Sky and I meant it.

[X] Evening Sky: Shadowlord

Take it or don't. I have no enthusiasm to try convincing anyone anymore.

So making Findross:
One way to produce findross would be to create Edeldross, then use incident Nullification to nullify every concept but perfection and restoration. The resulting substance would restore things towards perfection, which sounds a lot like Findross.
she raised a palm, intercepting his blast with her own Nullity.

"As I thought. The energy isn't being nullified - that is to say, the power of Nullity isn't rendering this Element mundane. Instead, they're actually cancelling each other out! I think this contains the parts of findross that uplift and restore, elevating the mundane to the supernal. In a sense, it can be considered the opposite of my own power!"

I'd thought Findross was just the elements of restoration and perfection, but it turns out that there are elements of findross still missing, and we won't get proper Findross until we find them.

Keep in mind that any elements would need to apply to both orcs and sorceresses.

-Grace seems like a likely possibility. For the sorceresses, grace is the divine beneficence of the maiden whose powers they gained, and also being able to fight in heels. For the orcs, they physically move with incredible speed and accuracy, ie graceful. Also the coalescence powers are called graces.
-Immanence, whereby the divine becomes manifest in the material. It's the first grace of the Eschaton Sorceress. I'd guess that Immanence is what allows Findross to remain in the environment, while Edeldross "swiftly fades beneath the withering indifference of the real". This could also explain the golden eyes of the orcs; glowing golden eyes seems like a marker of divinity. We know the maiden had eye-lasers; could her eyes glowed golden as well?
-Purity, mentioned in the Fifth Grace of the Eschaton Sorceress. It's easy to see how the Sorceresses embodied this. The orcs were pure as well; theirs was a purity of purpose, a single-minded devotion to war. Also maybe they were all virgins? Not really sure how orcs reproduce.

Truth is possible, it's mentioned alongside purity in the Fifth Grace of the Eschaton Sorceress, but I think it's weaker. Maybe "purity" should be "purity and truth"?

...

My best idea going forwards is adapted from the one I already mentioned.
-Create an Edeldross container full of pure Edeldross, nullify everything in the pure Edeldross except for the Findross precursor elements.
-Extract Findross from Gisena's blood, add it to the container.
-Hope the Findross converts the partially-nullified Edeldross into more Findross.

The rings are a possibility. The Ring of Blood has power over passion, it might be possible to add purity? And the Moon Ring might have power over grace or immanence.

Finally, high enough astral rank is supposedly a path to creating Findross? Given rank empowers everything, it makes sense that it would allow us to manipulate and control exotic energies like findross.

[X] The Ring of Power - Dominion - 2 Arete

I'm still committed to the Ring. Even though there's been a bit of fear building up over the contest of primacy, I think that's an excellent narrative thread to follow. I'd like to learn more about the other Ringbearers and what's going on with the Lunar Ring in the Temple and picking up the Ruling Ring would let us know more about it. If we intend to stay in the Voyaging Realm, we should pursue a storyline that we've already invested in and the Ring arc is thematically interesting and appealing to me, especially as we can sort of follow up on the Ring relationships from Even Further Beyond. Also, we have to be willing to put picks into the Ring if we ever intend to pick up its EFB and this is one of the initial steps to that.

I'd like to aim for the Special Advancement for an EFB for each of our 3 Artifacts and Ruling Ring is the best candidate to its overwhelming ++Progression effect. I know there's been frustration over preferences clashes but I think if we want to really optimize our potential and properly leverage the synergies in our build, we have to take the Ruling Ring. The Ring of Power effect is just broken and Hunger has used it to will fishing spots into existence, force his enemies into desired positions by enhancing his social presence and heal and empower others through the Dominion of Life.

Elevating that kind of all-purpose power while strengthening our ability to grow even further would allow us to really be able to outscale the Apocryphal Curse and we'll need an increasing speed of growth in the future as Hunger becomes more powerful (also, Bearic hasn't stopped scaling either and our Progression has to be greater than his in the short-term else he takes us or our companions out ).

While Edeldross Adept is interesting enough, I don't want to spread Hunger's attention across too many things and I'm not keen on acquiring more magical power, over-focusing on Sorcery or suddenly multiclassing (again!!) into Rogue-class when we're already a Swordsman/Mage combo. In that regard, I'd like to fully explore the paths we've invested in before branching out too much.

My preferred progression for Hunger would be something like:

>Acquire the Ruling Ring, thus boosting the power and versatility of all subsequent EFBs
>Attain expertise in Sword Praxis so we can establish a powerful offense
>Invest in the Evening Sky / Edeldross magic by picking up either Pillars of Creation for more power/training or Total Eclipse for potential and magic options = Lets us take the Special Advancement with EFBs for each Artifact (?)
>Train our Rank as quickly as possible (Pick up Once and Future? Maybe go for the other Special Advancement with 3 EFBs in Forebear's Blade?)
>???
>Acquire D E E P L O R E
>???
>Finally get started on conquering the Human Sphere after 100+ updates in the Voyaging Realm (?!!)
>???
>PROFIT!!

Or more likely, we spend too long doing any one particular thing and Rihaku gets bored before we even manage to get the first Special Advancement and the quest dies :V But, my dream is to somehow reach the goal of PROFIT!! So, I'll keep voting to S A V E and hope that we can get the Ruling Ring sometime soon!

Oh, also, the rambling thoughts / pseudo-plan above is 570 words that will hopefully go to building more Arete. In conclusion, go Dominion: War!

{ } Doom of the Typos The Accursed will remove the ability to inherently understand the language of the world to which you are transported. You have to learn the grammar and vocabulary of the language yourself. Every sentence, written or spoken have to be grammatically and semantically correct or else people will discard it as gibberish of a madman. It is said that the simplest comma can ruin the most logical argument.

Coma would work here, without even sabotaging the sentence!
"It would be inadvisable. Debt can crush even a genius."

"But money is just a social construct!"
The true power of Incident Nullification? Debt nullification. Some say the Maiden was even able to cancel out student loans...
"I don't know," Gisena said. "I've seen plenty of Paladins and Knight-Captains with that color scheme, or at least similar ones! I'm sure people would mistake you as a hero if you smiled more."
Of all the characters I didn't expect to get a callback, Lelaine was up there. Sponsored by the Twilight Sorceress, but her runic enhancement didn't save him from the Taker of Hands. I did like him quite a bit. Less than Vanreir, but a similar tenor of appeal, a regret that circumstance placed him in the protagonist's path. Maybe it's just something about the straightforwardly honorable types? That former adjective would explain the Forebear's appeal. Anyway:

Since Control won, I'm excited to see what kind of experiments we can do with Gisena.

Rihaku? Given that our Panoply is full, what bearing would Theft have on Hunger, his capabilities, and the hidden art Abduction?
I think it's mostly mundane skill, Abduction's effectively barred to us until we unlock new panoply slots. Not that we have enough Arete to go around Abducting stuff with impunity, Artifacts don't feed themselves! I asked something similar about synergies when King of Thieves was offered:
There is synergy between the two options, but not such that it would reduce the Arete cost. You'd get some great value for Arete, though!
