Sorry for the delay everyone. Bit busier than expected.

But I will post the next update right after this.

Ari's Return 1.6
[X] Ask about the war.
-[x] Which war?
-[x] The one you died in.

In the end, for all the questions you had racing through your mind, the one you needed answered the most was perhaps the simplest.

"Admiral...what happened after I died? The war?"

For all that you needed to know what the war Captain Anderson had mentioned was, you needed closure more. And you doubted very seriously they were the same war...the amount of rust on your hull and Utah precluded that. Japan could not possibly have lasted that long. It wouldn't make any sense. That being said, it hardly worked to change how much you wanted to know about the war you did know about. Because there was no way that America did not go to war with Japan, after that attack.

And for his part, the Admiral seemed to understand why you were asking. He nodded, a hint of sadness in his gruff features.

"I assumed you would want to know that, Arizona. Most of the ship girls want to know what happened after they sank. Even Langley did."

Turning your head, you saw a sad smile on Langley's face.

"He's not lying." The blonde carrier softly replied.

"In any case, I can give you the short version now. I would suggest you talk to Langley later, if you want the details." The Admiral got your attention back, as he sat down in a chair a younger man brought him.

"Thank you sir." You replied, genuinely grateful.

"Think nothing of it, Arizona. If anyone deserves to know, you do." Despite the gruffness in this voice, there was a level of fondness as well. "Now. Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the morning of December 7th, 1941. This you know."

You nodded, full attention on the Admiral despite the rumbling in your stomach.

"Most of the fleet in harbor was damaged to some extent, and most of our planes were destroyed. It was luck that they hit us there, as most of the ships were able to return to service at least. The exceptions to that rule...you, Utah, Oklahoma, Cassin, and Downes."

Oklahoma as well?

Tears sprang to your eyes, upon hearing that. You hadn't known the pair of destroyers well, but Oklahoma? She was like another older sister at times...after all, the Nevada-class were your immediate precursors. You had...you had assumed she had survived. After all, your hull and Utah's were still in place. Surely any other ships that were sunk would still be in place as well. But...apparently that wasn't true.

You were prepared to ask about Oklahoma, but remembered what the Admiral had said. That question would have to be answered by Langley, later.

"After the attack, we declared war on Japan." If the Admiral noticed your internal conflict, he didn't comment on it beyond a softening of his gruff voice. "Germany and Italy declared war on us soon after. Suffice to say, we fought those sons of bitches back on all fronts, though we took our own losses in the process. No more battleships were sunk, thank God. But we lost Lexington, Yorktown, Hornet, Wasp...and Langley."

Again, you felt the blow in your heart. The poor carriers...

"It took a few years, but we eventually won in Europe in May of '45. Japan gave up the fight in August." The Admiral sighed softly. "That was seventy-five years ago, now."

Your mind ground to a halt, as you stared at the Admiral.

"Seventy..."

A small nod was your answer from the man, "Indeed. It has been quite some time, Arizona. Now, I'll answer one more question, but then you do need to eat. Every time one of you girls come back, you need to eat soon afterwards. Something about resupplying, I will be the first to admit to not being familiar with the particulars."

Mind still reeling, you tried to think of another question to ask.

[] Has it really been so long since the attack?

[] Why did you come back?
-[] The other War?

[X] Why did you come back?

Ah, the time gap. Always a big shock, that sort of thing.

We'll ask about the time-gap later.

Nice update there. :) There will be a great many hugs later.

The time gap is important, but I feel it can take a back burner to other things at the moment.
