A Light in Darkness (Supernatual XCOM Quest)

Wish we had shotguns right now, could really use the stopping power. I'm not sure which team is supposed to have the motion tracker, but it'd be really useful to be able to toss it into the attic or basement here. Since I don't know how detailed the orders are supposed to be here, I'll just go with this for now.

[X] Plan Phantom Blood

Overwatch is paramount here.

Operation: Frozen Thorn. pt.2
"Move in, quietly." you command. Joseph nods and silently opens the door... or tries to anyway. Turns out the door wasn't willing to cooperate with you and Joseph had to force it open, making a small bit of noise. Joseph and the others then went inside, finding the house surprisingly cleaner than expected, it still looked like an abandoned house, but there was an unusual lack of debris. Joseph then moves and opens the door in the east room. The squad goes into overwatch and waits to see if the vampire comes for them. When nothing happened after a few tense seconds, you have Joseph and Amelia go into the room, making sure not to block the door. It looked like a kitchen, but worn and missing some appliances. The closet was in fact the pantry, and when Joseph opened it.

"JESUS CHRIST!" Joseph said while stepping back as through his camera you saw the pantry filled with corpses of animals, all drained of blood. It was mostly vermin, but there was also a few cats and a dog as well. They were in various states of rot and decay, you pretty sure the stench must be horrible on the squad's end. "Well, that's a little fucked up." said Amelia while looking at the corpse pile. Meanwhile, Luna and Lena were searching the other rooms, finding them all filled with similar sights.

"Well, apparently going feral means they don't care about littering." said Luna, while Lena seemed gave her an odd look. "That's what you say to this?" the English woman asked, to which Luna just shrugged. All the rookies stop what their doing however when they hear movement. "Command, that doesn't sound like one Foxtrot Victor." says Joseph and then you hear the sound of a door being busted open. "And I don't think they're happy we're here."

It was Luna and Lena who saw them first. There was three of these things, and they looked wrong.

Well now, that did not look human. In fact, the mere sight of it filled you with a sense of primal hatred, as though their very existence offended you. Felix swiftly informs that is not a normal response, in fact you should be mirroring Lena's reaction. The poor girl was panicking screaming her head off. "HOLY SHIT, KILL IT, KILL IT RIGHT BLOODY NOW!" she shouted before opening fire at the trio of monsters. The rest of the squad swiftly followed her lead, opening fire with their assault rifles. Two of the beasts managed to dodge and get out of the way, but one of them was hit in the shoulder and was bleeding, which meant you can kill it.

Which star is which soldier? I think that the two closest to the vamps should fall back to the front entrance while the other two open up on the exposed target, then they'll have distance and overlapping fields of fire. But if one of the close ones is Lena, then she won't listen to orders because of her panic.

General Strategy: These are vampires. Obviously, they are strong at melee and can probably heal by drinking blood. That means we have to keep away. In addition, while we may outnumber them, we have to consider the usage of grenades when they are still clumped up. I'd prefer to shoot them to preserve their bodies for science.

[X] Plan Staking For Jesus
Turn 1: West Team (to the left,) will open fire at the tango on the east side of the building. Also, have Luna calm down Lena immediately and quickly, without taking too much time. If that's what it takes, give her a good bitchslap. Don't get distracted. Meanwhile, East Team (to the right,) will move away from the corner, make a firing line at the southern wall and open fire. All units are ordered to maintain caution, watch enemy movements, and stay away from the enemy. Constantly try to create distance between themselves and the parasitics. If there is a critical need for self-defense, usage of explosive devices is authorized.
Turn 2: If Lena hasn't calmed down yet, have Luna force her to retreat near the entrance while the other team provides covering fire. Maintain caution. If there is a critical need for self-defense, usage of explosive devices is authorized.
Proposition to the QM:
Let's have a "military codename" for every supernatural being we encounter. Vampires could be:
  • "Parasitic," because they suck blood but don't necessarily always have to kill.
  • "Hemophage," is a medical term for a cell that destroys red blood cells by phagocytosis. My point is that they drink blood.
  • "Anti-Erythrocyte." An erythrocyte is a fancy name for red blood cell. The "anti" suffix is self-explanatory.
  • "Homo Vermiculo." The scientific term for a modern, sentient human is Homo Sapiens. Vermiculo means crimson. Catch my drift? Maybe just Vermiculo.

It's more or less what I was proposing, albeit in superfluous vernacular.

[X] Plan Staking For Jesus

Although I don't like any of the proposed military codenames. The whole point of such things is to be easy to say and recognize in the chaos of battle, when the scientific terms would be garbled mouthfuls to the soldiers. Layman's terms like "Feral", "Sucker", or just plain "Vampire" is fine.

Whatever the "official" code-name, the troops would probably invent things along @NaanContributor's lines. I hope "vamp" catches on.
I guess you're both right.

Operation: Frozen Thorn, STAKE FOR JESUS!
You're not quite sure how, but Luna literally slaps the panic out of Lena. You were under impression that only worked on TV and fiction. "Shoot these Twilight rejects!" the Mexican woman says before she opens fire at feral vampire out in the open, Lena following suit afterwards. The barrage of bullets slam into and tear through the creature, with two going through its brain. Its bodies falls to ground, twitches, and finishes dying.

Joseph and Amelia then move to the south wall, make a tiny firing line, and open up at where the other two vampires are at. It proves somewhat ineffective as there is a wall in the way, though it soon crumbles away due to damage.

(Yup, destructible cover)

After that, the two vampires move out of cover and rush the two Americans, moving faster than the squad can react. the first takes a swipe at Joseph, which misses as he does the smart thing and DODGES it. He then sticks his gun in the vampire's face and goes full auto. The beast's body falls over dead thanks to the shear number of bullets that tore through its head. The other one lands a hit on Amelia and knocks away her rifle. She also does the smart thing and pulls out her sidearm, points at the vampire's face, and pulls the trigger. A single shot takes a piece of the creature's jaw clean off and staggers it.

(Your people aren't just going to stand there and take it. Rookie Richards has earned a Promotion!)

Amelia then picks up a sharp piece of wood, and stabs the vampire in the chest with it as it recovers from having a part of its jaw blown off. It doesn't go all the way in, which she fixes by kicking it further in. The vampire falls to the ground dead, but unlike its comrades, turns to ash soon after. "... Hey Commander, why don't we have a bunch of wooden stakes?" asks Amelia as she goes over and picks up her gun.

(Rookie Connors has earned a Promotion!)

"I'll be sure to get some." you reply. "Commander, we're picking up motion in the basement, enough for one more of those creatures." informed Williams.

Well, time to give some orders.

Really wish you could do this in the games.

Well obviously so that we'll actually have some bodies to study!

Not anymore?

[X] Plan Ready and Waiting
-[X] Everyone reloads or repositions to get line of sight on the basement door if they don't already have it, then all enter overwatch. They'll be ready to take it down as soon as it shows itself.

Yay for Overwatch party.

[X] If They Won't Come to Us...
-[X] Everyone reloads or repositions to get line of sight on the basement door if they don't already have it, then all enter overwatch. If the vamp doesn't come out quickly, have Joseph & Luna carefully enter the basement while Amelia provides cover. Have Lena keep an eye towards the upstairs entrance, just in case.

We don't know if there isn't some sort of tunnel out of the building in the basement. If it doesn't immediately come after us, it could be getting away. I know it's dangerous to go into its lair, but it's something to consider.

Plus, I'm not completely willing to ignore the upstairs.

EDIT: for grammer.
