A Light in Darkness (Supernatual XCOM Quest)

[X] Approach the mausoleum in a staggered line as stealthily as possible, using gravestones as cover if necessary. If the necromancer can be marked and dropped before the team is noticed, then it'll be a clean operation.

... Did not think of massive vampire-thing in basement.

Let's see what the current tally is!

Just found this thread, love it :)

We didn't even expect more than one feral vampire due to the preliminary report. Looks like we should always expect worse than what we're told going in until we've made the equivalent to the Hyperwave Relay/Shadow Chamber.

We're not doing this already? This is based off XCOM, after all :)

-[X] Check with Felix to see if standard weapons and ammo like the team is equipped with will be effective against the Ghouls. Also check with him to see if centre-of-mass shots will be effective against Ghouls, or if head shots will be needed.

I am a bit curious if one of our soldiers was to be bitten by a werewolf and turn if they could still retain their self control and we could use them for later missions or if we would have to put them down.

Well that would actually depend on if they're bitten by a Lycan or a Werewolf.

Werewolves lack control of when they transform, unless they're one of the Sub-Species. They are vulnerable to silver and wolfsbane.

Lycans retain their humanity while transformed and can control when they do so, they're vulnerable to Bronze instead of Silver, and possess a measure of supernatural strength even in human form.

Will using supernatural creeps make our units easyer to mind control?

Time for the tally!

Operation: Glass Jester 2
The team moved up in a staggered formation, using the gravestones both as cover and to keep out of sight of any ghouls that might be shambling around. The squad immediately sees around four Ghouls around the mausoleum. They were decayed and rotting creatures crafted from corpses and magic to serve their master. Two more were probably inside the mausoleum acting as bodyguards for Necromancer. "Commander, it looks like stealth might be a no go, what's the plan?" Kiba radios in. Before you can give an order, one of the Ghouls howls and the rest turn to look in Kiba's direction. It appears that they have remarkably good hearing for undead. "Scratch that! Opening fire!" Kiba then shot the nearest Ghoul, but missed. Sophia, Feng, and Mikael followed suite and sent a barrage of lead into a different target. They all hit, but it seemed to not be enough to put them down.

You had to give your troops orders before those Ghouls could charge them. You-, Mikael tossed a grenade! It exploded and sent shrapnel into rotted flesh and blowing off some limbs. "Возьми этого ублюдка!" He shouted. Well, that worked so you won't say anything while paying closer attention to the situation. Two Ghouls were missing their legs, another was missing an arm, and a fourth had a chunk of its side gone. The two that were inside the mausoleum would be unharmed unfortunately, same for the Necromancer. You noticed that the whole squad had grenades unlike the other team. You asked Williams why that was, to which he responded "It was recommended that since the AO was close quarters, explosives would do more harm than good." You can see why, but give the order that unless stated otherwise by you, all squads are to have grenades and medkits from now on. Williams just nodded and you turn back to give orders to the squad.

I think it's safe to say ghoul 1 & 2 will be lower on the priority to be killed than the others. Can any of them throw a grenade inside the mausoleum, or are we still going for the non-lethal aproach?

How good of a throwing arm do our guys have? Could any of them get a grenade into the doorway of the Mausoleum?

Which of our people are where - who's closest to the ghouls, etc?

Which of the ghouls are where - for example, Ghoul 1 is missing its legs but is it the one closest to our team, etc?

Can one of our troops lob a grenade into the mausoleum where the necromancer is?

With the revelation that the Ghouls would still be active if the necromancer's knocked out, and that he has two of them as bodyguards now, that possibility has dwindled drastically. I think the only chance of it now is if the necromancer decides to surrender himself, maybe after we take out all the outside Ghouls, if he drops his control over the last two and comes out with his hands up.

I say we chuck a grenade just outside (not inside) the mausoleum to snuff out the necromancer and slay the ghouls that are outside, plus damage the ones on the inside and destroy the walls to help us shoot. As soon as the walls are gone, one of our guys will yell in the necromancer's direction: "Hands up, get on the ground, do it now!" and if he's non-compliant, just spray bullets mercilessly in his general direction until he falls down either dead or submissive.

  • Kiba is the closest, Mikael is second, Sophia third, and Feng is the farthest.
  • 1 is between the Grave stones, 2 is in the door way, 3 and four are to the right of the mausoleum.
  • Kiba might be able to.
