Kanto Week 5 Part 2 - New Moves
[X] Water Gun
[X] Learn Bug Bite (~12% decrease in stat improvements this turn)

Both Dratini and Pineco spent some time familiarizing themselves with their moves. While Dratini had already had a decent understanding of Twister, the extra familiarity he got from practicing it allowed for a smoother sense of flow when using it. While his Water Gun did backslide in terms of utility, a large part of that was simply due to the notable reduction in practice. As for Pineco, she learned a new move, Bug Bite. This move proved to be far more powerful than expected, with it synergizing well with the Bagworm Pokemon's typing. Overall, Violet would say that Tackle as a move was now obsolete for Pineco outside of Pokemon that were doubly resistant to Bug Bite.

*Dratini upgrades Twister to C-*
*Dratini downgrades Water Gun to D++/C++*
*Pineco Learns Bug Bite at C--*

The rest of the week was spent with a primary focus on exercise. Each day Violet would spend hours with Dratini and Pineco exercising alongside them. Jumping jacks, situps, pushups, squats, etc were some of the many activities she performed alongside them. Both Pokemon grew for it, with them being able to fight for a significantly longer period. Additionally, the increase in basic endurance also translated well to their physical endurance, with both Pokemon easily able to handle more injuries before fainting.

*Dratini upgrades Health to D++*
*Dratini upgrades Stamina to D++*
*Dratini upgrades Defense to C--*

*Pineco upgrades Health to C--*
*Pineco upgrades Stamina to C--*
*Pineco upgrades Special Defense to D*
*Pineco upgrades Defense to B--*

While this all occurred, Violet supplemented the training with light spars. During those, Pineco and Dratini didn't get as much use out of it, but that was fine. Those spars were for her.

Having fought in two battles up to this point, Violet reflected on what she had done. Her actions and choices had made sense at the time, but now she realized there was a sense of chaos to it. Many of her actions occurred spontaneously and with minimal thinking. While instincts were incredibly useful, she wanted to merge instincts and conscious thought into one. Hence the current spars.

Rather than react and then act as she had been doing, Violet tried to merge the two. It was a difficult process, and one with a lot of hesitation involved. But while Violet hadn't achieved her goal, she did feel as if she was organizing what she was doing in her mind better. What was previously still fundamentally reactive remained as such, but Violet could understand the flow of the battle better. And sometimes, that was all that was needed.

The Sixth Week, Pick 2

Pokemon Actions

[] Catch a third Pokemon - With four routes branching from Cerulean City, there are dozens of different Pokemon you could catch ranging from Pidgy to Oddish to Houndour.
[] Fish for Pokemon - Cerulean city does have several fishing spots nearby, heading to one to try and catch Pokemon could be useful.
[] Seek out a Chansey - Chanseys are located mainly within Cerulean Cave, a locale where you are most definitely ill-qualified for. However, there are a few branches of the cave which are accessible to you.
[] Train with Dratini and Pineco - Both of your Pokemon are good in a battle, Dratini having grown through their playdates, and Pineco being rather perceptive herself. Training for a few days would help them grow.

Battling Actions

[] Challenge Luna - A known trainer with a decently trained Growlithe, she would make for a good sparring partner while you're here. And maybe let you talk in the future.
[] Challenge New Trainers - Now that you, Dratini, and Pineco had developed, fighting a few trainers in succession was doable.
[] Challenge an Experienced Trainer - The other option to seek out a Pokemon battle would be to go to the Cerulean Gym and challenge one of the attendants there. You would likely even win.
[-] Challenge the Cerulean City Gym - You have to challenge one of the Cerulean City attendants first before winning the right to face the gym itself.

Exploration Actions (New)

[] See the sights in Cerulean City - While you have explored a good portion of the city, there is still quite a bit more to see such as the substations, gym, and other minor tourist attractions.
[] Explore Unorthodox Locations - Exploring parts of Cerulean City most people don't will be an interesting experience. Surely nothing can go wrong?
[] Explore some Caves - Now that you have learned the basics of caving, taking on more challenging spelunking expeditions is viable. And there are a fair few options nearby.
[] Learn to Swim - While you do know how to swim, there is a notable difference between swimming for fun and scuba diving. And an even greater difference when it comes to exploring underwater caves. Learning more advanced concepts would be fun.

Traveling Actions (Can Take 1 of These Only)

[] Travel to Mt. Moon - The cave system leading to Pewter City, heading towards the mountain to travel through will allow Violet to begin an adventure within.
[] Travel to the Power Plant - A large power plant that produces much of Kanto's electricity, it is home to a number of electric-type Pokemon.
[] Travel to Write-in - There are many locations in Kanto one could take a direct route towards.

Social Actions (For socials, it's assumed you keep up a basic level of contact through text, choosing a social means I write it up)

[] Call up your parents - Your parents would appreciate a call just to tell them what you've been up to.
[] Call Tetsuya - An old childhood friend of yours, the two of you drifted off recently. He just arrived in Pewter City and now has three Pokemon.
[] Call Willow - The trainer you recently defeated, she seems fun if exhausting. She just raced through the Viridian Forest and plans to challenge the Pewter City gym.

[X] Seek out a Chansey - Chanseys are located mainly within Cerulean Cave, a locale where you are most definitely ill-qualified for. However, there are a few branches of the cave which are accessible to you.
[X] Challenge Luna - A known trainer with a decently trained Growlithe, she would make for a good sparring partner while you're here. And maybe let you talk in the future.

We must gain the power of the Stall Chansey.

I want to call our rival right after we match her feat of defeating some gym attendants. And then next turn when we fight the gym leader I want to call Tetsuya to rub in getting our badge first. That leaves us in the narrative space of catching Chansey on our way out of town as well as pretty much back-to-back with Magnemite but that seems appropriate to me after receiving our first gym badge.

Also, to be honest it feels like if we don't start working on the gym soon we'll be slowing the pace of our journey too much. We've already been here for a few weeks after all and beating the gym is typically going to take another two if we don't rush things so if we delay another turn that'll bring our total time spent here up to like a month and a half by the time we finally get around to leaving which is way too long.

I will say that if you don't challenge take on an experienced trainer this turn, I'll likely lock you in for fighting them next turn. Just to avoid having the pace be too slow. That and you're definitely a match for an experienced trainer right now. And could likely beat Misty.

Vote Closed + Rolls
Alright, I'll be calling the vote here. Looks like you will be battling Luna then catching a Chansey. For the former, you're actually at the point where it'd be a little bit of a one-sided fight, so that'll be somewhat accelerated through. As for Chansey:

96 - Opportunity to rescue a Pokemon

...well, looks like things will get merged once more then. And V and D return once more. Albeit this time you have the jump on them.

Eurgh, unfortunate that we'll be battling Luna first.
If we're dealing with those assholes having backup would be nice.

EDIT: I do want to say, this does give me a "eeeee" squee tho!!!!
"this is JUST like my animes" is a pretty sincere thought wrt like... listen, it's a plot with story beats, having recurring characters, even if they're just Character of the Day getting a second shot at the spotlight, and having that be how a new mon is recruited... and the Chansey even getting to work through the trauma of being attacked by being a healer, ohhhhh this is a potential arc.
Also this is such a fun team we're gonna have! Dragonite, Forretress, Blissey... even if there's competitive reasosn or the kantonian context, you dont exactly see those mons together a lot in canon media, and I've only seen so much fanon / roleplays that go about it like that. I love team building over a gameplay run for that sort of stuff.

Got linked this quest from another thread, and it looks interesting so far! Excited to see Team Rocket get blasted off again, too!

Kanto Week 6 Part 1 - Trouble
[X] Seek out a Chansey - Chanseys are located mainly within Cerulean Cave, a locale where you are most definitely ill-qualified for. However, there are a few branches of the cave which are accessible to you.
[X] Challenge Luna - A known trainer with a decently trained Growlithe, she would make for a good sparring partner while you're here. And maybe let you talk in the future.

Deciding to challenge Luna to a battle, Violet made her way to the Pokecenter where she interned. Realizing that she would have to talk to people she didn't know rather than contact her via phone, Violet felt a touch of trepidation before managing to psyche herself up for the day of social interaction.

"Is-is Luna in?" She asked Nurse Joy at the front desk.

The caretaker of Pokemon gave her a welcoming smile, "She is dear, who would you be?"

"Violet," she responded simply, fidgeting in place at the realization that a line was forming behind her. Her nerves intensified further as Nurse Joy headed into the back to grab Luna, leaving her alone with her thoughts for a few seconds.

Thankfully, her companion showed up quickly, greeting her with a wave of her hand. "Violet!" She greeted, "It's good to see you again."

"Likewise," she replied, keeping her words brief as she stepped out of line into a more private discussion. "I - I was wondering if we could battle." Leaving aside her explanation of why, which in this case was to ensure she was ready to catch a Chansey as well as face Gym Leader May, Violet shifted in place as Luna considered the challenge.

"As long as Growlithe is fine with it," Luna replied. "I should warn you, I don't think I'll be a good challenge."

"I don't know about that," Violet responded with fraught nerves, she didn't like correcting people. "You held up well against D and V."

"Maybe," Luna said, not really believing Violet's words.

The subsequent battle confirmed that to be the case. With Luna trying to open up the battle with three Howls. Something Violet easily took advantage of. While Dratini was slightly too slow to land a Wrap and his Water Gun was out of practice, Twister was far more useful. Not to mention he was given multiple chances to land a Water Gun which he did with ease.

Luna was embarrassed at the showing, having failed to land a single hit on Dratini. For a moment, Violet was tempted to say what she did wrong before deciding against it. That would have felt mean.

Luna, Violet realized, was too focused on buffs for her Pokemon. Increasing Growlithe's attack was an excellent idea if the opponent allowed it. The issue with moves like Howl was that even if they were performed perfectly, it was still time that was spent on yourself rather than putting pressure on the opponent. There wasn't any use in making it so you can one-shot your opponent if it takes you four rounds to do so and your Pokemon can only last three.

Taking the loss with feigned grace, Luna had decided to accompany Violet on her expedition into the caves around Cerulean City. When the shy girl mentioned she was looking to catch a Chansey, Luna immediately jumped in. Claiming she knew where a small group gathered. Surprisingly, she was rather invested in it, and while Violet didn't press her on the matter, she was able to eventually determine that the loss to her had hit Luna hard.

"Are you …" Violet began before cutting herself off. "How did you learn of this group of Chansey?"

The decision not to ask about Luna's emotions was made halfway through her question, but if Luna realized that was the topic, she didn't press it. "Nurse Joy mentioned it," she explained. "I can't become a Pokemon Nurse without a Pokemon that can heal."

Violet nodded, agreeing with her friend (friend?). "They're pretty good at what they do."

Luna seemed to brighten at the open-ended statement, rather eager to expand on a topic Violet knew relatively little about. Something which continued for a few hours until they made camp for the night.

Chansey was prized for its diverse array of support moves, namely Charm, Covet, Life Dew, and Sing. Those moves were easily learnable by nearly all Chansey and allowed them to both heal and de-escalate situations with injured Pokemon. Not to mention the surprising bulk that the Egg Pokemon had which allowed it to operate for hours before tiring. Violet briefly mentioned the support attributes at play in Pokemon battles, but Luna then went on to a more medical topic which caused Violet to somewhat disengage from the conversation.

The next day, as the two of them approached the caves, Violet began to hear familiar voices. Holding a hand to her lips to shush her partner of the day, Luna and her edged forward until they saw what was happening.

There they saw a familiar duo, D and V. The two members of Team Rocket standing over two Chansey that had fallen into their trap. From where she was, Violet could spot rope marks across their legs, as if they had been caught within one and hung upside down. "You sure that'll be enough V," D directed at her green-haired partner. "One more for the boss would secure our promotions."

V leaned over and flicked D on the forehead, her partner stumbling back in response. "Don't be greedy D, you and I take one of these and we'll show those two girlies what we can do."

One of the Chanseys woke up, trying to free itself from the trap. "Hey, hey little buddy," D directed towards them with a sickeningly sweet smile. "You're one of ours now, first order of business, get out of that." The Chansey struggled for a while, unable to do so with its short arms unable to reach up to the rope. Violet's blood boiled as she realized the two Team Rocket members could have just caught them with a Pokeball rather than whatever this sadistic display was.

Just as she began to debate how Luna and her could respond, she was terrified when V's Zubat emerged from its Pokeball and screeched in their direction. The two members of Team Rocket immediately turned towards them, D unleashing her Zubat just as Violet and Luna threw out their Pokemon.

Now once more two Zubats faced a Dratini, Growlithe, and Pineco. "You two," V growled, her eyes darting between the three of them not liking her odds.

Violet settled her mind, organizing it into a state ready to fight.

You and Luna have challenged D and V to a battle!

It'd lead to the story being a fair bit darker than I want for this.
I would rather it be a limit due to Violet at the moment rather than a hard rule considering that it could easily reach rather silly levels "I can't possibly kill/harm humans that are trying to ruin the world" if attacking trainers is full banned rather than being a thresholded event. Violet wouldn't do it to them just yet, but I could see her eventually choosing to do so if they keep showing up and harassing Pokemon as an example.

EDIT: woops seeing a plan I like more

Fwiw I think using thunder wave on a human is more of a reasonable boundary to cross, especially to prevent poaching... but we should be able to stall out their escape...
And then use self-destruct because D & V dont have protect lmao

Daemon Hunter what's our win condition here? If we knock out a trainer's Pokemon these are still criminals so if Violet isn't willing to paralyze them with Thunder Wave they can just run away with the Chansey no matter what. And, with Pokemon humans being far more durable than real-life ones it makes such a move entirely non-lethal so I don't really see the problem with it.

It'll just be like how Ash deals with the anime Team Rocket or how Red deals with Team Rocket in the games.
