Honestly, you really don't feel much like replying at all to Rei, after all that has happened, and how it feels like she just threw you away when done with you. You know that isn't the case, but it still hurts anyway. Also, although you feel guilty about this, a large part of being with Rei was to get over your feelings for Akari, in the hopes that a relationship would mask and perhaps eventually overcome your feelings for Akari. You feel like a terrible person, but you know that at any point in time you would have always gladly exchanged Rei for Akari, if not for the fact that Akari was someone way out of your league in just about every aspect. As it is, you decide to give short and concise replies to Rei, and just state that you are busy. You put away your phone, and try to mentally prepare yourself for the upcoming situation.
The time ticks by, second by second, and with each second you get more nervous. The time arrives, but she still hasn't. You begin panicking. What if she just doesn't come? Or wants to spend as little time as possible with a failure like you? Does this mean she finds this unimportant? What if...
And you see her, flustered and making her way to you quickly. She immediately apologises, but all your worry has long since disappeared. You begin chatting, and the conversation proceeds smoothly while you two start wandering the mall to decide on a place to eat. You see her smile that you so sorely miss, and her giggles when you try to be funny, and all your emotions that you have been holding back these years come bursting through the dam you have erected in your heart. Yes, this is the girl of your dreams, and the one you have always held affection for. The time passes in a blur in your stupor of happiness, and you are satisfied.
As you finally decide where to eat half an hour later, she begins going by a roundabout path to the restaurant. She looks away from you momentarily, and, with what seems to be a light blush, reveals to you that she is avoiding her workplace, and places that people she knows occasionally go to. You don't want to be too hasty to jump to any conclusions, but it appears to you that she is at least aware of the implications of how it looks to people. You immediately become conscious of all the couples around you, and how close she is to you. The distance when walking practically couldn't get any close without holding hands, and when talking, her face was close enough you could just learn forward slightly and...
No, you shake your head and clear your mind. You really don't want to screw anything up today, and you need a clear mind for that. You reach the restaurant and sit down after a short wait, and begin your meal soon after. The conversation proceeds again without a hitch, and when you are both done with your food, she is visibly disappointed that it is over. She suggests to stay longer, but with a quick glance at the queue at the restaurant, realises that it would be rather impolite for all the waiting customers. The two of you pay, and leave.
As you leave, she inquires into whether you still have time to stay for a while longer, and of course you do. And with that, the aimless wandering around the mall while talking begins yet again. Ultimately, you are dragged to a pet shop, where you two stare at the dogs (and perhaps you stare at her just a little bit) for the rest of the time.
It is about four hours into the notadate that she tells you that she has to leave to meet a colleague for a project soon, and has to go. You part, and thank each other for the time spent.
