A Hikkikomori NEET Quest

Week 5 end
The week goes by decently, and you suppose that even if it had been decided that for some weird reason you were considered to be medically unfit for all forms of physical activity, becoming a marksman, and a particularly high scoring one at that, still felt rather good.

[X] halp wat do
-[X] go talk to your bunkmates about your woes, for the second most depressed person and try to build some rapport between you two

You doubt you are the most depressed person here, as you dont have to make regular trips to the psychiatrist, and arent barred from firearms due to being deemed to be too high of a risk to self. Nevertheless, you decide to try to talk to some of the less cheerful among you, and might have gained a friend or two, but you might also be feeling even worse now.

-[X] find someone who has similar interests as you, like anime and Waifus

Nearly everyone here watches anime to varying degrees, and there are a decent number of rather hardcore weebs. Anime makes for a decent conversation topic, but doesn't especially help in improving your relations with those you talk to.

In 3 more weeks, you will gain a significant amount of relative freedom

Week 6, start
You reenter camp with your mood having improved slightly, the cause of which is uncertain, but there is no need to question something good. Perhaps it is due to having received your first pay, or "allowance", as it is called, since national service isn't considered to be work, and the token amount that it given would put you far below the poverty line if actually considered to be a real salary. That said, it is still the first salary you have received, and it brings you some level of joy. The weekly communication with extra-dimensional beings seems to help to some extent too.
The upcoming week of first aid training excites you, and you are looking forward to further learn how to protect life.

Akari has just been accepted into medicine at a prestigious university, and her birthday is also coming soon. What should you do?
[ ] Congratulate and send birthday greetings subsequently over text
[ ] Treat her to a meal with your first pay
-[ ] How do you not make it awkward, knowing that you probably will
[ ] Get her some gift
-[ ] what do you get, and how do you deliver it to her?
[ ] write-in

2 weeks left!
[x] Plan Never Again
- remember how you were back then, remember the bad parts, the sad parts and tell yourself, you are never going back to that state again! Besides it's only 3 weeks before you can enjoy some freedom!
- you have made a small amount of rapport between you and your bunkmates, continue talking to them and interact with those most likely to relate to you.
- talk about who is the best Waifu before you were sent to this place.
- Misery likes company, talk to those who are sympathetic to you about the miserable conditions, make it like a joke between your team.
- continue your exercises especially cardio, and after that go to the firing range and train your marksmanship.

Noted, effects of actions will passively apply unless there is something of note

[X] Get her some gift
-[X] A book, The Emperor of All Maladies with a "Congrats!" card. Either mail it to her address, or drop it off.

In this digital era, finding the book proves to be a much easier task than initially anticipated. A quick web search indicates the bookstores in the country that contain the book, and the pricing and locations are easily obtainable via the internet. You proceed to a nearby bookstore after booking out, and after checking and ensuring that it is undamaged, get the book.

[ ] How should you give it to her? You do know her address, but you think it would slightly weird for her to randomly receive a book in the mail, and it would be more impersonal.

You have now completed your first aid certification course, and are now a qualified first-aider.
First-aid skill gained!

Your boots are outstanding enough that they have been specifically singled out to be praised by superiors. Perhaps boot-polishing is indeed our true calling after all.
Boot-polishing skill: Rank S gained!

Mood has generally improved for now, numeric values TBD.

Letter in Book Draft v1.0
To Akari:
Happy Birthday, and congratulations for successfully getting into Medicine at Xyz, as you have long dreamed of. Your hard work these years has paid off, and I believe that you will continue to persevere and do well in your chosen field.
I hope that you will keep and enjoy this birthday gift, even as you move forward in life, and physical books become even more obsolete. I know that I may be weird and awkward at times, but I realised that the friendship I have had with you is one of the things I have treasured most, and I wanted to dedicate at least a portion of my first pay to that. Maybe I'm being a little cringey, but I hope you can find some meaning in this nonetheless.
From Hideaki

You are looking forward to your new posting, and can't wait for the week to be over. No you arent you tried so hard and failed.
You will miss your squad after this, seeing as you will go different ways now. They have left a strong impression on you in this difficult and tiring time, and you cant bear to leave them. No you wont. They deserve to-
It is a joyous occasion, and you should be happy. WORTHLESS. FAILURE
