A Galaxy of Rust (Celestial Forge / 40K Pseudo SI)

The gay bit came out of left field. Nothing really for or against it. In WH40K, it likely will be rather meh. It's the lets make customized clones that was his first thought. He doesn't even have any perks for that. He sort of has equipment that could be used for that, but really?

I'd think that anything would be possible in that setting if you were rich or powerful enough. Want to buy an eldar slave girl/boy? It may be expensive, but someone likely has a business around that. Mainly serving nobles as they are the only ones that can afford their services. If you want clones or genetic splices/hybrids of various entertainment lines, they likely have tons of options/models already.

I thought it was amusing that the MC saw someone that looked vaguely hot and thought. I want one, I'm going to grow my own. You know instead of finding out local courting rules and following the guidelines.

I liked the interaction with the grumpy fixer guy. That's actually sort of how I figured that his interaction with the last set would have gone. Not so much that they'd have been grumpy, but they'd have been hazing and testing him on what he could repair. He was only there for a day and left the next day though.

This guy may be worried that new guy could take away his job. Common Sense should be telling the MC don't make an enemy of your coworker that you'll be spending 95% of your working time with. He really shouldn't need a perk for that. I worry about the guy that it took the perk reminding him to ask about exiting protocols before he was locked in the room.

You might want to tone that down a bit unless you feel like the perk needs to be trolling/face-slapping the MC.

So the MC is gay. I honestly had no idea up until this last chapter 😅. And don't care all that much about it as im mostly just here for the techno wank. But I would like to ask if you do create some gay lemme scene please put up a warning ⚠️ were it begins and ends. As personally I'm not gay and don't want read that stuff as I'm here for the story.
Ain't no lemons in Sufficient Velocity, gotta go to QQ for that.

Rule 2: Don’t Be Hateful
Wanting forewarning that the POV we're reading from is gay ain't homophobic chief. Not wanting to read the story over it isn't homophobic either if they ain't being hateful about it.

Ban me if you like.

I understand the ban stelarwand and temperus but wh ban xcell therebwas nothing homophobic in his post?

Or is this the connection between xcell and incel?

Some of the most respectfully homphobia bans I have seen.

Still, looking forward to seeing how you are going to treat homosxuality and especially homophobia in 40k, couse that can go several very intresting ways.

will it be tolerated and a non issue, as humanity just wants to kill everything not human? Super suppressed as nobility accuses everyone not sis and not them doing it as slaneshi?

So yeah, normally I do get a disconnect with male homosexual characters (sidenote, i do like how you made him low key gay, just admiring a hot guy and keeping on trucking. It is my favourite way of doing non sis characters. They just like same sex, or other, and it's honesty not a big deal unless someonemakes it one. They are, as all good characters should be, more than their sexuality.) , but am looking forward to how you are doing sexuality in a world where slanesh are a thing. As long a the tech and world at large is main focus I am happy.

Keep in mind the size and the scale you're operating on here. It doesn't depend on the planet and its culture, it depends on the culture of the floor of the hive city of the planet.

it really depends on the planet and its culture on a case-by-case biases, the Imperium as a whole though could not care less because as far as it's concerned your just a number on the ledger and nothing else
And that is one of the intresting ways to treat it, especially when different planets cultures clash around it and higher ups just don't care, you can die for them either way...

But dealing with why a certain planet has high homphobia can be intresting (is it to hide slaneshii influence? Did they use to have slaneshii influence, and have swung around extremely to not get more inquisition? Is it because another house was highly homosexual? Once read a rouge trader dynasty where homosexual was the cultural noble norm, and they only had vat born babies...and their clashes with sis rouge trade dynasties. was intrestingtl to read a story with that as a background dynamic)

So yeah, even harsh indifference is intresting, especially when put up against people that does care.

I'd rather not have that become a main topic of the story. The character is homosexual, big whoop. This isn't QQ or pornhub. Warhammer is the wrong setting for a Jack Harkness style man whore romp through the universe. Unless you're writing a Slaaneshi Cultist, or Drukharii story. Writing the story from those perspectives would get it banned from the site. How it is at the moment is fine.

Exactly. It shouldn't be Main thing, but is potentially intresting as a background peice of worldbuilding.
Edit. I mentioned a story whith gay rouge traders as a status symbol. Them being gay was unimportant, son could have had any unsuited suitor and it would have been the same thing. The flex of having all your generations and wifes being vatgrown super babies was important as a show of mechanicus connections.

Having them strong enough long lasting enough for it to be a culture... that to was important

I wouldn't be afraid of it becoming a main thing, the only reason I noticed the MC was gay at all were the people complaining the MC was gay...

I don't mind the gay part and it's kind of funny that fact has had such a big impact in the discussion. What is equally funny is being banned for "homophobia" as if asking to be warned about potential homosexual scenes is homophobia. Oh, you don't want to see guys having sex? HOMOPHOBE!! Mod has lost the plot. For reference and because I know the mod is that kind of person I am bi, am I also a homophobe?

That aside the story has been really interesting so far. I'm not too familiar with the 40k universe but there's got to be some interesting tech out there, maybe making the whole homo/hetero/whatever discussion irrelevant. Then again I could also see everyone just hating everything equally. Like another person said I'd prefer it to be what is has been so far, interesting as a background piece of worldbuilding but not a main thing.

My brother in christ, the MC admired a muscular man's muscles. If you need warning about that, then homophobia is if anything too light a word for what your problem is.

On an unrelated note, one thing I really like about this fic is how down-to-earth it is. We're operating on Necromunda scales, not Horus Heresy scales. The MC isn't instantly going toe-to-toe with an army of Men of Iron or doing a credible Primarch impersonation, he's just a guy trying to survive in a shit universe with the tools that were given to him.

Obviously it will be fun if he becomes world-shattering later, but the world-shattering is the payoff after the hardscrabble.

A little freewheeling with the ban hammer there Mod. Indicating that you have a preference to not view a certain type of content is not hate speech against that content. Stelar I could see your argument as he could have just stopped reading. Xcel just asked for a warning for explicit content. Not unreasonable and a lot of authors add content warnings for explicit scenes of many natures. Then Temperus just called into question the reasoning for the ban. If it's a matter of the language used then that should be clarified. As it is I think the bans are an overreaction. That's just my opinion though.

There actually are, except the stories doing so are clearly marked and you need mod review and if you're a creepy weirdo or a criminal nutbag the mods reserve the right to ban you, unlike in AO3 or ff.net where there aren't mods, with the obvious results.

Wut even is going on in these comments? Anyways imagine using Glowstone on staves as an element? Would Anathemic energy count for both the Staves and Borderlands perks? I'm just imagining our MC like Gandalf standing on a hive bridge between a Balrogesq Daemon and some companions going "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" Lol

I honestly can't wait for more, I really am hoping that we'll get a unique story where the MC has to deal with getting little to no knowledge but an expanding base of industry and other stuff like he has now at least for a little bit. Would be fun to see an MC actually have to R&D and not just go presto change O this toaster is now a nuke

Major issue with this story is the conflict without adversity, there's been multiple fights without anything going wrong. Someone realizes he's a psyker and then nothing bad happens, coworker doesn't like him and nothing bad happens. So far the entire story is everything going perfectly for MC as his situation keeps improving.

You've got the basic mechanics of storytelling down but you're missing the nuance. MC decides he's gay because he's attracted to the first person with noticeable muscles which ignores the possibility of being bisexual. The character seemingly doesn't know enough to come to the conclusion he did. One option would be to have the secondary sexual characteristics thought about a female which by its analytical nature suggests a lack of attraction.

The creepy thought about building someone is fine as an intrusive thought, but follow it up with something. There's a great deal of options for characterization here but the topic is dropped without any payoff. Someone thinking in terms of bio sculpting / augmentation says very different than someone going to the mental conditioning side of things etc.

PS: Framing suggesting a gay label in terms of homophobia is ridiculous. People want to identify with the MC there's no need to slap a label on something in the first chapter, but people don't want to be 30k words in and then drop a story.

I don't see why this story has to be labeled "gay MC" when it's a minor detail and not a big structural piece of the story. It's not unusual for gen fanfiction to have unlabeled background romance that doesn't play a big part, and it's homophobic to assume that this kind of thing needs to get labeled immediately or it's betraying the promises made in the description and tags. Would you have immediately stopped reading if he was straight?

Also, i know these are being made with the best of intentions, but it's also kind of weird to ask that the gay MC be asked to fight homophobia as a major plot point and that if he isn't gonna do that he shouldn't be gay.

It's a bit baffling that these requests are being made on the explicitly Gay Left-leaning (version of that other forum). Do you even know where you are?

Huh, would adding Glowstone too the B.O.W tube impart Anathemic properties to the creation? Could you theoretically creat an Anathemic infection? Bet that would both impress and piss off Nurgal.
